I own a hair salon so AMA but nothing hair related! More like what do we really think when you're late etc 🤫

OP posts:
Shortfeet · 16/09/2019 16:14

Yes it's AMA
But there is no gagging order on people responding to what you say

BenWillbondsPants · 16/09/2019 16:20

@horseridingaddict. I'm a bit confused. Are you saying you would be pissed off if I dyed my hair at home (my hair) for whatever reason? And you would charge me more than you would someone else the next time I came to your salon?

WheelDecide · 16/09/2019 16:24

OP keeps digging a bigger hole 😆

Bodicea · 16/09/2019 16:27

My main big bear is when they overlook themselves. Ie start you hair. Leave you, start someone else, then you end up waiting for them again or being “finished” by a junior stylist. Do you do this a lot?

Also why can do few hairdressers do a decent blow dry without the use of straighteners? Most hairdressers seem to blow dry it far too straight then try and put the curl back with straighteners which is not the same.

Bodicea · 16/09/2019 16:27

bugbear overbook

Plasebeafleabite · 16/09/2019 16:28

OP doesn’t give a fuck you mean - she can charge what she likes and client can happily continue with the box dye should it not suit

Laughing OP re tips - I took a pasting on another thread for daring to suggest I got better service for tipping. Well no shit Sherlock imo but apparently I was deluded.

Funghi · 16/09/2019 19:29

I understand not wanting to mention your asking but what county are you in? I’ll avoid it.

Drabarni · 16/09/2019 19:36

How can I find a good hairdresser?
I have been to an national award winning specialist for my hair type and it's a mess.
I've had managers and nobody helps much. Even gone on word of mouth and recommendations.
Have a major event in December and daren't make an appointment anywhere.

TIA

BeepBeeep · 16/09/2019 19:51

When I go to a salon OP, I take my own brushes and I tell the stylist that I want to dry my hair myself.
That way it not only saves me washing and drying it when I get home as a lot of women do, but if there's anything to be altered then they can do it while I'm still there.
Would that piss you off in your salon?

Housewife2010 · 16/09/2019 21:42

BeepBeeep
I think that's a good idea as at least you know that your brushes are clean.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 16/09/2019 21:48

Why do you always insist on washing hair at approximately 98 degrees C? Grin

SuzieQ10 · 16/09/2019 22:01

How do you choose which products to sell? The salon I go to has been using Redken for years probably 15years or more and suddenly changed, they say the product is better but I've been using it and it doesn't seem as good. I'm guessing they are able to make more money from the new brand.

JoyceDivision · 16/09/2019 22:07

Roughly what area are you based in op?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/09/2019 22:42

Good God it’s a hair salon you’re running not Alcatraz. Some people only go to hAir salons to be pampered and made a fuss of. I’d actually be quite intimidated going to your salon.

TryingToDrinkMoreWater · 16/09/2019 22:46

Do you ever suggest to a customer that a cut that they have suggested really won't suit them? I ask because I'd like to be warned if it was me, but fear that my hairdresser would be too polite.

Overseasmom100 · 16/09/2019 23:22

Why are mens hair cuts much much more cheaper than womens?

Evilmorty · 16/09/2019 23:30

Do you go to industry training to stay up to date on the latest colouring techniques? There are some amazing salons in London and when you ask your own hairdresser if she can do the same thing, the answer is always “no, it can’t be done” or “they’ve altered those pictures” when I’ve seen the colour in the flesh, I know it can be done and the colour is true.

Is what they really mean, it can be done but I’m not good enough to do it?

nancy75 · 16/09/2019 23:30

When you learn to be a hairdresser do you learn how to cut curly hair in a different way? Ive got very curly hair & in 44 years I’ve never found a hairdresser that knows what to do with my hair (believe me, I’ve tried a lot)

BringTheBounceBack · 16/09/2019 23:51

Quite often the hair can't take it, it would break off! But trying to explain that to some clients is impossible so we out price them because we don't want to do that client anymore as it's more trouble than it's worth!
Bonkers. Sensible folks would do a strand test to show, or at least explain why they can’t process their hair the way they liked, and either come to a compromise or plan or simply tell them it’s not something you would do. Or even sign a disclaimer.

Cookit · 17/09/2019 06:36

+Why do you always insist on washing hair at approximately 98 degrees C?*

I always find the opposite
“How’s this water for you?”
“Oh great, thanks” says with teeth chattering
“How’s this pressure?”
“Lovely thank you” meaning OH MY GOD JUST GET ON WITH IT!

I hate, hate, hate the washing hair bit but I’d never say anything just like I’ve always thanked them and told them that I love my hair even when I really don’t.

PickingUpLicks · 17/09/2019 07:38

If you had a regular client, who came in every couple of months for years and years, and they suddenly left, would you get in touch with them to see if there was an issue?

ShimmeryShiny · 17/09/2019 07:48

What would you think of someone who came back who'd been a few times elsewhere? I have done this because it was cheaper elsewhere but thinking of going back because they are better although more expensive

HelenaDove · 18/09/2019 23:20

OP In answer to your original OP What do you think the client thinks when YOU are running 40+ minutes late?

BanKittenHeels · 19/09/2019 12:13

This thread Shock

Everythingmagnolia · 19/09/2019 12:49

I am wondering if OP will come back
