I own a hair salon so AMA but nothing hair related! More like what do we really think when you're late etc 🤫

Your responses have made me think I'd be better served by rotating salons and not being a loyal customer. Definately feel I'm being taken advantage of by current hairdresser...

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 15:04

Yes I have very good morals! Thank you!

When you've spent a long time achieving an amazing colour then a client whacks a box dye over the top of course it's going to piss the stylist off! It's starting again from scratch!!

BringTheBounceBack · 16/09/2019 15:05

Eeeshhhh I never encountered any stylist charging more for a service just because.

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 15:06

Us some hairdressers do get complacent! It's important to have a consultation at each appointment incase things have changed for you! Medication for example can effect how the colour takes

You wouldn't know if they had done it! They wouldn't tell you!

You may feel irritated that they didn’t wait for you to colour their hair but surely some understanding of how busy life is at times would be good. Not sure I agree with charging extra just because you are pissed off is the way to run a business...

ButDoYouAvocado · 16/09/2019 15:07

But it's their hair Confused

LittleLongDog · 16/09/2019 15:08

of course it's going to piss the stylist off

It might piss you off but does that mean you are allowed to fine them?!

They couldn’t get to the hairdressers. Do you not have any sympathy or understanding of that? They didn’t do it to purposefully annoy you!

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 15:10

It def depends on the client for sure!

BuckingFrolics · 16/09/2019 15:13

What do you do if a client (adult) has nits?

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 15:13

They have to be turned away, we would tell them nicely though

As someone who’s worked in salons, honestly, it didn’t happen. That’s pretty shady.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 16/09/2019 15:16

Why on earth is it a personal affront to you when they've done something to their hair?

ThatCurlyGirl · 16/09/2019 15:18

of course it's going to piss the stylist off

Im in PR. It pisses me off when my clients make silly business decisions that then need PR management to be fixed. I don't charge them extra for my time, I charge them the time it takes to fix and tell them so - so it might cost them more but I'm transparent and don't fine them on top of it because I'm pissed off. I'm a consultant and it's my job to provide my expertise to them.

I would understand you saying to the client transparently that because they've used a box dye it will take longer to fix and so it will cost more. But you said you'd "add on extra too". For long term clients.

Aside from being petty it's not good business practice to piss off long term clients - it's much less expensive to retain existing clients than it is to get new ones.

WheelDecide · 16/09/2019 15:18

Bonkers reaction, I hope you're not my hairdresser. It seems a bit of a power play - you've given them a good colour not a heart transplant.Hmm

Ilikesweetpeas · 16/09/2019 15:20

Wow, glad you're not my hairdresser. She's so lovely she even gave me advice on which box dye to get!! She knows I'm on a budget. I always give her a tip though

Sparadrap · 16/09/2019 15:22

Do all hairdressers tell their clients they have lovely hair? Is it genuine or are they just being kind?

LittleLongDog · 16/09/2019 15:22

It def depends on the client for sure!
Oh, you just scam some^ clients?

CalmFizz · 16/09/2019 15:23

Ah, do you encourage a very smoke and mirrors pricing strategy?

LoafEater · 16/09/2019 15:23

You are far too invested in your customers lives if you feel the need to ‘fine’ them because they have died their own hair without consulting you.

DinosaursWouldEatYou · 16/09/2019 15:28

How do you feel when you're stuck with a quiet client? (I'm a quiet person, with not a lot of interesting things to say and feel awkward and embarrassed when attempt at conversation goes south)

GetOffTheTableMabel · 16/09/2019 15:29

I’ve heard it said that you tip the stylists and assistants but NOT the salon owner (even if they do your hair) because it’s their business. Is this correct?
Also are you in the UK?

weliveinapigsty · 16/09/2019 15:31

You treat customers depending on how much they tip.
You fine those who home dye if they can't get to you.
You hate those who walk into the staffroom by mistake - presumably while looking for the loo
You only clean brushes once a day
You warn against ever 'pissing off' hairdressers

I think you're my local.

horseridingaddict · 16/09/2019 15:31

I really don't mind quiet clients it's quite nice to just get on with it, it's quite relaxing
