Stolen photo?

I recently went to a friend's birthday party and as you can imagine, lots of photos were taken by everyone there. I also took a lot of photos on my mobile phone and I have just noticed that someone else who was there has posted a photo which I took on the night onto a Whatsapp group.

The photo is definitely the one I took, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

I didn't send this photo to anyone and am completely baffled as to how someone else could have got it off my phone as it was definitely in my possession all evening. Does anyone have any idea how this could have been done please?

This is impossible.
Could they of been behind you?

HeadintheiClouds · 15/09/2019 22:39

They were standing in the vicinity and had the same view. Unless you were the only one in room at the time?

PancakeAndKeith · 15/09/2019 22:39

Are you completely sure?
Could they have been stood next to you or behind you?
That’s more likely than them doing so crazy shit to steal a photo.

MittsMajuna · 15/09/2019 22:40

They took the same picture.

GooodMythicalMorning · 15/09/2019 22:41

yeah, they were behind you.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/09/2019 22:42

Some one took the same photo with multiple phones. Are you in the photo? Do you remember taking it?

HeadintheiClouds · 15/09/2019 22:44

What’s baffling is that you imagine that you were the only one who could see whatever it was you photographed, tbh!

InsertFunnyUsername · 15/09/2019 22:49

Erm, they could have been stood next to you?

Or they hacked your phone and transferred the photos, to upload them themselves. I know which one I would believe first.

fedup21 · 15/09/2019 22:52

The photo is definitely the one I took, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

Can you explain why you are so sure?

pallisers · 15/09/2019 22:55

Was it a photo of your clearly identifiable feet as you sat on the loo?

fatgirlonthebeach · 15/09/2019 23:04

As I said in my post, it is definitely the same photo. 100%. Please do not patronise me.

At the point where the photo was taken there was a whole load of party poppers released and, as you can imagine, lots of paper flying through the air all at once. I have examined both photos very closely and it would be impossible for anyone else to have captured the same minute details at the same time. Anyone standing beside me, or even behind me, at that split second, would have a slightly different image. I have zoomed in closely to both images. It is the same photo.

My real worry, and it is a genuine one, is that it is possible for people to obtain photos, or other info, from our mobile phones.

When you are in WhatsApp group the pictures posted by others goes onto your camera roll. You have automatically saved her photo. She hasn't stolen it.

InsertFunnyUsername · 15/09/2019 23:14

I think skiing is right.

AiryFairyMum · 15/09/2019 23:33

Yes you've stolen their photo!

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 15/09/2019 23:35

What skiing said

peachgreen · 15/09/2019 23:36

Yes, it's her photo, not yours!

bruffin · 15/09/2019 23:37

Agree with Skiing etc
When i look through my gallery photos i often find Whatsap photos from my groups.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 15/09/2019 23:38

You thief! 😂

combatbarbie · 15/09/2019 23:44

You used to be able to grab other phones pictures via Bluetooth.... Used to be funny when i was younger.

I had actually forgotten about it until this post.... So you remember pairing with devices?

PancakeAndKeith · 15/09/2019 23:44

Yup. They go straight into your photo folder. She didn’t steal your picture at all.

SouthwarkSkaters · 15/09/2019 23:45

Send both photos to your computer and look at the exif data. Or download an exif data reader, it will tell you exact time they were taken and the camera used - it will help you to establish if they are the same image or not.

Also, do you both have iPhones? Is it possible that one of you airdropped to the other by accident - as in, sent to the wrong person?

PerkingFaintly · 15/09/2019 23:46

This is the sort of techie thing you want to know before using your phone to take pictures of that tricky-to-reach boil on your arse, isn't it?

ThatCurlyGirl · 15/09/2019 23:49

What @SkiingIsHeaven said:

combatbarbie · 16/09/2019 09:36

Ok i see where other posters are going..... In my gallery I can see All media in one folder but then is broken down to seperate folders, camera, screenshots, WhatsApp, messenger etc. Default WhatsApp setting is to save media in conversations.

Or are you saying it is most definitely a picture you took?

fatgirlonthebeach · 16/09/2019 17:01

What Skiing says is obviously correct, however I had viewed my photo in my gallery before it was added to whatsapp.

Southwark - thank you for your sensible reply and advice. I have researched the issue online and it seems this is what is needed to prove the photos are identical.

To all those of you who doubted me, thought I was a bit mad because I thought it was impossible for someone to take an identical photo, or those who thought I had in fact stolen someone else's photo, I suggest maybe you do a bit of research to see exactly how easy it is to extract data from another mobile phone. There is a whole lot of spyware out there and to be frank, it's quite scary how easy it actually is to do.

My initial post was to see if anyone else had had a similar experience.

It is the SAME photo.

It is MY photo.

It HAS been retrieved from my phone and I am now in the process of dealing with it as I do not know what other data this person may have taken. Identity theft is a serious business.
