Stolen photo?

I recently went to a friend's birthday party and as you can imagine, lots of photos were taken by everyone there. I also took a lot of photos on my mobile phone and I have just noticed that someone else who was there has posted a photo which I took on the night onto a Whatsapp group.

The photo is definitely the one I took, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

I didn't send this photo to anyone and am completely baffled as to how someone else could have got it off my phone as it was definitely in my possession all evening. Does anyone have any idea how this could have been done please?

But if someone was stealing your photos and identity (??) why would they risk outing themselves by posting one of the stolen photos?

peachgreen · 16/09/2019 21:12

Why on earth would someone go to the trouble of installing spyware onto your phone only to download a photo you'd taken and share it with you, thereby alerting you to their nefarious behaviour?!

LuciferTheCat · 16/09/2019 21:15

oh Confused

fatgirlonthebeach · 16/09/2019 21:38

Because they are not the sharpest tool in the box and didn't think I would notice.

Also, the spyware is installed on the phone of the person who wants to get data from other people's phones. Seriously, research it, it's a dark world out there.

Why would someone steal a photo then post it on a group where you can see it? If the intention is to steal more data from you they wouldn't want to alert you to it surely?

WaterSheep · 16/09/2019 21:47

To all those of you who doubted me, thought I was a bit mad because I thought it was impossible for someone to take an identical photo, or those who thought I had in fact stolen someone else's photo, I suggest maybe you do a bit of research to see exactly how easy it is to extract data from another mobile phone. There is a whole lot of spyware out there and to be frank, it's quite scary how easy it actually is to do.

Personally I think Skiing's theory is more plausible, but if you're determined to think otherwise why bother to start the thread asking for explanations?

Todaythiscouldbe · 16/09/2019 21:48

Sorry, crossed with two similar replies, that'll teach me to start a response then deal with bedtime 🙈

MmmBlowholes · 16/09/2019 21:49

Yeah, they sent it to the WhatsApp group and its ended up in your camera roll with the rest of your pictures.

MmmBlowholes · 16/09/2019 21:51

Also, as someone said earlier, why would they steal your pictures (and other data) and then parade it in front of you? I think you've been reading too many stories about identify theft. Occam's razor and all that.

Gabrielknight · 16/09/2019 21:53

God your paranoid and sound a bit crazy tbh.... I'm pretty sure you've made a mistake and you've stolen their photo...

InsertFunnyUsername · 16/09/2019 21:54

Is the person likely to have your iCloud details?

Still doesn't explain them willingly uploading a stolen photo for you to see.

Choice4567 · 16/09/2019 21:56

But why would they then send it back to you?

joblotbubble · 16/09/2019 21:56

I'm with Skiing

I'm sorry OP but your further posts are going down the batshit path.

InsertFunnyUsername · 16/09/2019 21:58

I feel like I am in an episode of Criminal minds. This person isn't the sharpest tool in the box, but can steal data off your phone using spyware and is stupid enough to upload the evidence for you to see. Hmm I am invested.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 16/09/2019 21:59

don't some phones have a swap information function that works when in proximity....i phones isn't it?

carlywurly · 16/09/2019 22:01

Air drop?

Soola · 16/09/2019 22:01

Just admit that the original photo was theirs and has transferred to your phone via WhatsApp.

You’re making yourself look silly with the talk of spyware etc

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 16/09/2019 22:05

ooh I think that's it, air drop. I am an android person!

bruffin · 16/09/2019 22:07

Samsungs have smart switch but i dont think Iphones have it.

64sNewName · 16/09/2019 22:12

What do you mean when you say you’re in the process of dealing with it?

Did you send a ‘J’accuse!’ text to the photo thief?

Do let us know what happens next.

combatbarbie · 16/09/2019 22:12

Air drop is like Bluetooth though, you need to enable it on both devices. I've got the p30 on android and just tried it with Hawaei beam.....

GoodBoyGhost · 16/09/2019 22:12

Why would they have stolen a photo when they could just taken one?

MmmBlowholes · 16/09/2019 22:14

The OP just doesn't want to admit she's wrong.
