Stolen photo?

I recently went to a friend's birthday party and as you can imagine, lots of photos were taken by everyone there. I also took a lot of photos on my mobile phone and I have just noticed that someone else who was there has posted a photo which I took on the night onto a Whatsapp group.

The photo is definitely the one I took, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

I didn't send this photo to anyone and am completely baffled as to how someone else could have got it off my phone as it was definitely in my possession all evening. Does anyone have any idea how this could have been done please?

I am the photo, OP.
I’ve been having dance lessons and been performing a jive back and forth between phones, it has been quite the thrill. Sorry for the fright.

raviolidreaming · 18/09/2019 08:39

OP won't be back. They know too much.

Firefly89 · 18/09/2019 11:05

Do we need to send help the dark web might have OP?

My god there are some really nasty creatures on MN. What a bunch of cowards you are to hide behind your screens and knock out bitchy replies just because a question has been raised about something that you can't get your head round.

A sincere thanks though to those of you who did offer helpful advice instead of mocking me.

It turns out I was right all along. It was my photo and it was stolen off my phone.

As suggested by Southwark, I have compared the Exif data on both images which proves beyond doubt that the original photo was mine and was retrieved from my phone. It turns out the DP of the person who used the photo has a tracker device on her phone. She is fully aware of it and doesn't seem bothered by that. I have spoken to her DP and he fully admits using her phone to retrive the photo and says the tracker also has some form of spyware, for want of a better word, on it. This guy is a total techie geek and doesn't seem to think that there is anything wrong with him accessing someone else's phone.

To make it clear again, to those of you who couldn't be bothered to read my posts properly, my concern wasn't about the photo itself. It was the fact that the photo was unique, a split second of time with the party poppers, that drew my attention to it. My concern was that if it was that easy to take a photo, then what else could someone retrieve? My post was querying whether anyone else had experienced this.

Obviously there are some of you out there who still won't be able to get your head round this. But ask yourself who really is silly/batshit craazy/bonkers etc. Me for being suspicious and proving it to be true, or those of you who continue to doubt?

Sorry, still makes no sense. A man is tracking his partners phone which made the partners phone “steal” a photo from a third (your) phone?

My DH and I sometimes track each other’s phones but our phones don’t access other phones!

Redglitter · 19/09/2019 15:48

Still makes no sense. Hes tracking her phone that's fair enough she knows about it but that doesnt remotely explain how her phone managed to access your phone and steal a photo

user1473878824 · 19/09/2019 15:48

ok

Stolen photo?
peachgreen · 19/09/2019 15:52

Her partner having a tracker on her phone doesn't make it possible to take a photo from your phone. And of course the exif data is the same, it's the same photo. Hers!

InsertFunnyUsername · 19/09/2019 15:52

Did 007 say why he used his DPs phone to steal your photo?

peachgreen · 19/09/2019 15:54

Sorry OP, I don't think anyone means to be nasty, but what you're saying just isn't logical and there are enough paranoid people out there who think their phones are being tracked etc etc without something like this to make them even more anxious.

Popili · 19/09/2019 16:00

How would a tracker on another person's phone mean they could steal photos off yours?

It doesnt work like that.

DriftingLeaves · 19/09/2019 16:05

^^ This

It really doesn't work like that.

FallenSky · 19/09/2019 16:11

I'd be really interested to know the name of this app/software on the phone so that I can look this up. Being what you'd call a "total techie geek" myself I am extremely intrigued by such software. Which, firstly, sounds extremely illegal and secondly, a load of bollocks.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 19/09/2019 16:18

I'm confused 🥴

Why would he want to steal the photo?

I would be interested to know how he has acheived this. I understood that spyware/trackers had to be installed on the target device in order to harvest data. Installation is not something that can be done remotely and so he/she would have to have physical access to your unlocked phone. is there anybody with a technical background who can explain?

Pinkflipflop85 · 19/09/2019 16:49

Took you a while to concoct the latest crazy story!

user1473878824 · 19/09/2019 16:53

@practicallyperfectwithprosecco I wouldn't worry about it, he didn't.

Soola · 19/09/2019 16:54

*strokes chin.

Stolen photo?
SauvignonBlanche · 19/09/2019 16:55

Oh that makes sense now. Hmm

baldpate · 19/09/2019 17:03

😂 at Jimmy. Perfect.

Pedders006 · 19/09/2019 17:06

haven't seen the reference to Jimmy since school days ... is everybody outing their age ...?

Celebelly · 19/09/2019 17:21

What a load of guff.

Borntobeamum · 19/09/2019 17:37

So you spoke the husband of the suspect?
This is sounding more bizarre by the second!!

Paddy1234 · 19/09/2019 17:45

Are you 'C' on another thread last week?
