Might have to do this tonight...

How did you manage?

OP posts:
palahvah · 12/09/2019 21:45

Essay crises at uni
Full moon party
Crying my eyes out after a break-up
Vegas
General election

Powered by either booze and lust or caffeine and fear.

Suspect you might need to plump for the latter. Caffeinate sparingly, hydrate well, have low GI protein snacks and put some lovely music on.

At University. We went to the Mountain Hut- very remote basic farmhouse in the Lake District.
Stayed up drinking and playing bridge until sunrise. Happy days
Not sure that’s much help! Do you play bridge? Do you need a 4thGrin

palahvah · 12/09/2019 21:48

Lively!

MerryDeath · 12/09/2019 22:01

homework/revision
labour
probably a drunken night at some point but that's not really my vibe even when i was young and stupid
i like my sleep, more than pretty much anything!

Waves to longdistance
Ex crew too and a total night owl, regularly awake all night, love the peace, no one making demands on me, etc
Have insomnia which used to stress me out but now just accept it and know I’ll be ok
Back in the day many all nighters raving, etc
Can still remember the feeling of leaving club in Ibiza with sun rising and feeling so good, happy memories

EugenesAxe · 12/09/2019 22:06

Yes, an A-Level project. Adrenaline kept me going. I’d had 4 hours the night before the all-nighter; I handed it in on Friday, went to bed at 7pm then properly slept until 3pm Saturday 🙄

I got an A though 😁

mawof3soontobe · 12/09/2019 22:15

For someone who LOVES sleep I'm a bit of a night owl so I regularly have all nighters for several types of reasons but then crash during the day at some point. Reasons have included:
Drugs
Parties
Drinking
Breakups
Heartache of just "knowing" you're being cheated on right at that moment
Sickness
Toothache (worst of the lot)
Labour x3
Sick child
Netflixitis
Internetitis
Insomnia/manic episode
And sometimes just genuinely loving the amazing, cosy warm feeling I get when dawn is just breaking, the rest of the world is asleep and I feel an overwhelming peacefulness that can't be felt at any other time of day. Sheer bliss

mawof3soontobe · 12/09/2019 22:16

Oh, studying as well!

Longdistance · 12/09/2019 22:29

@user764329056 👋🏼 Waving back ✈️

Funny how we were crew and now suffer with insomnia.

user764329056 · 12/09/2019 22:40

Yes Longdistance, reckon our body clocks are completely scrambled!

MardyLardy · 12/09/2019 22:44

So many times
Blokes and booze and we used to do short breaks that involved a night clubbing and a day in the city then home. Slept for four hours in five days once. I was crazily wired and looked transparent.
Babies and work these days ... not so many all nighters but I often stay up til 2am and get up at 6am .

AveAtqueVale · 12/09/2019 22:45

May balls at uni: enormous quantities of sugar and team spirit. Pacing alcohol intake.

Last-minute essays at uni: enormous quantities of caffeine (pro-plus, red bull, coffee - it's a wonder I didn't have a heart attack).

Watching sick children: fear.

On-call shifts as a doctor: not actually having time to sit down. Hard to fall asleep while walking!

Good luck Brew.

MardyLardy · 12/09/2019 22:45

Ha yes to essay crisis and Vegas too:)

Anthilda · 12/09/2019 22:51

The first time I recall ever staying awake all night and seeing the sun come up was because my partner dumped me and I was in shock/heartbroken. Many times since for nightshift at work, having a baby to deal with, drinking with friends or something troubling me.

Spanielmadness · 12/09/2019 22:52

Trying to get my tax return done. Worked all the following day too. Tax return was still late! Every year it’s the same thing, I don’t learn!,

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 12/09/2019 22:54

In no particular order:

Labour, gaming, studying, my df dying, partying, traveling, referendums, general elections.

Caffeine, getting up and doing something else for a little bit, snacks.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/09/2019 22:54

I stayed up all night for the last few days of my darling father’s life. I just powered through and was so glad to be with him at the end.

thaegumathteth · 12/09/2019 22:56

Loads of times - various reasons

Going out all night then straight to lectures
A non sleeping baby
Unwell babies and children
Anxiety
Being in hospital
Insomnia

If it's a one off I'd say just power through and try not to think about it too much. Be prepared to crash and burn tomorrow about midday though so if you canONLY once the packing is done try and get an hour or two.

justasking111 · 12/09/2019 22:56

Studying
flying
children and babies
insomnia bloody menopause

Spanielmadness · 12/09/2019 22:56

Worked all day, starting at 6am. Worked all night counting votes. The worked all the following day - laid down to shut my eyes and I missed the last job of the day. I’m self employed within the fitness industry, so not even an easy job - and take every bit of work I can, as there are quieter periods. Sometimes I need to know when to say no.

Babdoc · 12/09/2019 23:04

Working an 80 hour continuous shift from Friday morning to Monday night, on every second weekend, plus working on all the days in between, as a junior doctor in the old days, before they cut the hours. I averaged 100 hours a week for years. You run on empty, you start hallucinating, you neck coffee, but you just had to keep going and try not to fall asleep at the wheel driving home. I regularly fell asleep in my dinner though!

mawbroon · 12/09/2019 23:11

Many times, mostly partying or bipolar related.

But the most rock n roll time was an all nighter to finish a jigsaw Grin

thecalmorchid · 12/09/2019 23:25

Menopause Confused

Sleep just evaporates.

Funghi · 12/09/2019 23:35
