Things you should be able to do as an adult

but can’t Blush
I’m convinced that everyone has at least one skill that they’ve just never mastered that every other adult around you seems to be able to do!
I’ll start:

I cannot for the life of me work out chopsticks Blush
And do you know what makes that even more embarrassing? I’m married to an Asian man for Christ sake Blush He’s tried to teach me numerous times, but it would appear my stupid, European fingers and brain just can’t work together to eat the beautiful food he cooks with the traditional eating apparatus Confused My 4yo can do it and I can’t Blush

What’s yours?

I can’t slice bread straight - I either end up with doorstops or one edge so thin it crumbles when I butter it Blush

I can't roll my "r"s. It's always driven me crazy, like I should be able to think my tongue into doing it, but I can't.

I also can't just cook something random with what I have. It's either something I already know how to do, or a recipe. I have no faith at all that anything I made up would be even vaguely edible.

Sewing! Anything involving a needle and thread, even the most basic task, and I'm hopeless!!!

Tell left from right. I can do up and down no bother, but left and right needs a lot of concentration to work out.

The trick for cheese sauce is to mix olive oil and flour together then add milk...everything is cold...then heat it up..stirring it.

Use a tin opener, I'm resigned to only eating tuna sandwiches when DH is home.

Button and unbutton my shirt cuffs. A colleague caught me swearing and sweating one day and took pity on me the shame Nowadays I just keep them rolled up or down with a fleece over the top Hmm

Turning on our TV is far too complicated. I just wait for DH to do it. Cooking in general 🤦‍♀️ Everything just burns. DH and I have been together 4 years and DS recently outed me by telling DH that my mum would often bring us lasagne’s and chilli’s just so we’d have something edible to eat 😂 Nowadays, i’m Head cleaner and DH is head chef.

Keep track of my menstrual cycle. I’m 41. I’ve been having periods since I was 12. And yet every month they’ll be a day* where I feel like hell; exhausted, bloated, craving sugar and like I want to lie on the floor and weep, and I can’t understand why. Then eventually I go to the loo, notice I’ve come on, and feel surprised. Every month! I’m baffled!

*today, in this instance.

  1. Flying a kite (yes I still try) never mastered getting it in the air for more than a few seconds my whole life (I know how Charlie brown feels.)
  2. I've always wanted to whistle using two fingers in my mouth to get either a dog's attention or a person I want to alert attention to from far away. Never have managed anything remotely like whistle doing this.
  3. Also I can't make proper gravy smooth for the life of me either without a sieve Hmm

I can't drive but am learning.

I can't do long division. I very clearly remember missing a day of school when they learnt it in class as the teacher spoke about it the following Monday, and I never learned. Weirdly my ex had exactly the same experience - off ill and missed lesson, never figured it out either Grin

Most DIY. Luckily my neighbour is off work sick and incredibly bored so he is very happily working his way through my home fixing things
