Am I the only one who loathes Strictly?

My mum loves it as does DP so they've ganged up on me. I loathe it.

Antigonads · 07/09/2019 21:49

I love it.

I’m sure there is plenty of other stuff to keep you entertained.

With your highbrow needs.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 07/09/2019 21:53

@Antigonads could you point out to me exactly where I said that I have highbrow needs or that I look down on anyone who watches Strictly? Think you're projecting a bit there.

OP posts:
allthegoodusernameshavegone · 07/09/2019 21:57

I’ve never watched a single episode. I Used to listen to everyone at work rave about it, but not so much anymore.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 07/09/2019 22:00

I must add, knowing quite a lot about the dancing world, the celebs do amazingly well to achieve what they do in such a short space of time. Doesn't mean I have to like the programme

Frangible · 07/09/2019 22:13

I’ve only ever seen a few minutes of it here and there, but what strikes me is how endlessly loooong-drawn out it is. I find programmes about people learning to do things quite interesting, so in theory I should like a series about people learning to dance — but footage of them actually learning is minimal and there’s endless introductions of hordes of z-listers, matching them with partners, unfunny ‘hilariously contrasting judges’ banter, post-dance interviews, a separate results show, weeknight interim programmes. It just seems to go on and on.

emmetgirl · 07/09/2019 22:23

I think it's shit.

Antigonads · 07/09/2019 22:23

I wasn't referring to you particularly OP

But the use of words such as cheesy, ghastly, z listers by other posters implies low brow.

emmetgirl · 07/09/2019 22:23

All reality TV is shit. Never watch it.

Iamafanoffans · 07/09/2019 22:29

Agree with Frangible. It’s just too long, each individual show and the length of the run. Halve the number of contestants, spend more time showing the learning to dance and less on the stupid skits and painful interviews. Have the results announced on the Saturday rather than a whole other show on Sunday.
Remove the false ‘tension’ and arguments, it’s cringy to watch.

Then I might watch it!

YorkieTheRabbit · 07/09/2019 22:33

I’ve seen odd bits, wouldn’t want to watch an entire show as it’s so bloody bright Shock I used to like come dancing but I’m not in to talent shows, celebrity or otherwise

nicslackey · 07/09/2019 22:33

Never seen it. Never watch reality tv at all. I like films, a good drama Mock the Week, QI

Parkmama · 07/09/2019 22:35

I don't like it, I can't tell a great dance from a crap dance. I don't get why it's so popular!

northernknickers · 07/09/2019 22:35

You're not alone...I loathe it...and am looked on at work like this ➡️ 😱 when I voice my opinion. It also acts as a kind of self inflicted communication Coventry, as the Monday and Friday conversations seem to be solely around either Strictly/Love Island/Big Brother/I'm a Celebrity/the skating one or X-Factor...Depending on the time of year (so practically all year round really!) I don't watch any of these (or any other voting type contestant based thing of this nature!) Love Island was HUGE at my work place...I felt so ostracised when I admitted to never seeing an episode! You'd have thought I'd confessed to boiling babies 😨

cocomelon23 · 07/09/2019 22:37

I hate it Too!

beachcomber70 · 07/09/2019 22:38

I've always disliked it and never watched a whole show. Too many people, it's too long, too drawn out, I am not interested in ballroom dancing or the ghastly costumes.
I am so tired of 'celebrities' on so many shows, their preening, egos and their constant forced jollity. Every time I turn on.

Benjispruce · 07/09/2019 22:44

I used to love it. It was lovely family viewing with my young daughters. Now though I think it’s very tired. I find Tess very cheesy and predictable. I watched tonight but cringed so much at the pretend ‘over the moon’ gasps at being paired with whoever. If Claudia wasn’t on it, I wouldn’t watch at all. Will probably dip in and out.

whattodo2019 · 07/09/2019 23:16

Absolutely hate it....

Nicolastuffedone · 08/09/2019 18:11

I’ve never heard Claudia Winkleman say anything funny.........ever.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 08/09/2019 21:10

I was always out on Saturday nights and it didn't occur to me to watch it on catch up. I hated all reality TV and never tuned in to any of it.

Started watching from series 6 and was mesmerised by the pro dancers. Liked the judges and Bruce well enough. Tess was (and is) horrendous but at least she didn't have a huge role.

Enjoyed it for 3 or 4 series then the producers started pissing off too many of the old pros and changing the format. It became unwatchable.

I still watch it for the odd good dance but the overtheming, OTT props, tacky costumes, scripted drama, Tess, Zoe on ITT, tacky VTs, lack of training footage and the fact everyone behaves like they've consumed too many e numbers is off-putting. I mute 90% or watch the dances on YouTube instead.

It pisses me off that the been don't upload old seasons onto iPlayer. I'd love to watch s2-5 when it wasn't so unbelievably childish Grin

Proseccoagain · 08/09/2019 22:05

I don't loathe it, just not interested in it. When I was on a cruise I did not even bother going to see Kristina Rhianoff who was a guest artist.

SunshineAngel · 08/09/2019 22:08

I wouldn't say I loathe it, as I can put up with it if I'm at my dad's and he's watching it, but it's certainly not something I'd choose to watch myself.

Rachelover60 · 08/09/2019 23:28

Nicola, Claudia is quite quick witted. She is a good presenter with Tess.

Proseccoagain, I'm not mad about Kristina Rhianoff but I like to see good dancing and she certainly is a good dancer.

I absolutely love Strictly. My favourite female professional is Oti - used to be Natalie Lowe but she left to do other things and last I heard was pregnant. Male favourite is Aljiaz. I like all of them though.

I'm transported to a glamourous world when I watch Strictly. I would have loved to dance like that - or like some of them anyway.

MissLadyM · 08/09/2019 23:32

Hate it! The presenters alone give me the rage! All reality shows are shite apart from Bake Off & The Apprentice, although they're on thin ice with me too.

ssd · 09/09/2019 07:14

I know I'm getting old when I recognise like one celebrity on it.

I agree with you, I don't like most of the rubbish on telly either.
And when did the chase, tipping point, etc become prime time viewing?
And don't even mention casualty...

emmetgirl · 09/12/2019 17:46

I've never watched it. I'm not interested. Looks shit.
