I get paid for all overtime (time & a 1/2 ) so I am happy to get in 30 mins early each day.

Adds up quickly Grin

Deathraystare · 05/09/2019 09:25

At least 15 minutes. Mainly because I hate to be late!

amusedbush · 05/09/2019 09:26

I start at 9am and am at my desk between 8am and 8:30am depending on whether or not I'm dropping DH at his work (we leave earlier on those days).

I don't start working then though, I eat my breakfast/make a coffee/clear out any shite in my emails so I'm ready for 9.

Ellapaella · 05/09/2019 09:29

I start at 8.30 and arrive about 45 minutes earlier to give myself time for a cup of tea and catch up on emails etc.

Fatted · 05/09/2019 09:34

I work flexi time now so I just get in when I get in. I'm currently sat on my bum contemplating going in this morning.

In my old job I was expected to be signed in and ready to take my first call at my start time, so I usually got there 15 minutes before to allow time for a brew, toilet etc. The flip side of it was everyone would be packing up and ready to walk out of the door bang on their finish time.

Jenniferturkington · 05/09/2019 09:38

I’m a teacher and like to be in an hour before the kids arrive. However when I have to drop my own children at breakfast club I’m only in about 30 minutes before the doors open which I find rushed and stressful.

Lweji · 05/09/2019 10:05

It depends. If I have a meeting or teaching to do, then 20 to 30 min before.

Iamafanoffans · 05/09/2019 10:08

My official hours are 9-6, but I generally get in at 7.30 and leave at 5.

Two reasons, 1, I am an early riser and prefer to get an early train to get a seat. If I get the hour later train then I have to stand for 45 mins

2, we have a hot desking arrangement at work, if I get in early I get the pick of the desks, so get a decent one. Later arrivals have to make do with what’s left, usually a seat on a communal table with no separate monitor.

Some of my colleagues don’t get in until 10 but stay until 8-9pm. That’s not for me, I prefer a decent amount of time at home in the evening.

caperplips · 05/09/2019 10:11

I am the the CEO of the organisation so I am always early unless I have a meeting off site first thing.
The team start at 9.30. I am at my desk from around 8.45 each morning. I like that peaceful 45 minutes to structure the day, plan any meetings, fire off a few emails etc.
I also usually work a bit later and very often have things to attend after hours. But I also have the flexibility to take the time at another time. We don't get paid overtime, it's time in lieu. But for me it can be hard to find that time.
Having said that, I love having the freedom to take a half day or attend things for my dc if possible.

Redhound · 05/09/2019 11:16

About 2-3 minutes early, or on time. Theres nothing to do till start time and I hate feeling at a loose end. Also, I don't get paid enough to work extra. It's always hard to get away at the end of the shift though so they usually end up getting 10-20 minutes extra out of me anyway.

00100001 · 05/09/2019 18:52

”But it's true about checking emails, getting a drink etc eating into the time.”

Checking emails isn’t what you’re paid to do.... why would you get in early and do this unpaid???

00100001 · 05/09/2019 18:53

Is what you’re paid to do*

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 05/09/2019 18:55

30 to 45 minutes before my actual start time. I eat breakfast at my desk while going through emails and checking the answerphone.

cushioncovers · 05/09/2019 18:57

About 45 mins as parking is shit and then I have breakfast at work

ChangeItChild · 05/09/2019 19:01

About 10 minutes before my shift starts. Enough time to go to the loo & put my lunch in the fridge.

(I work in a public building, and although we are only paid until 5pm, we can only lock the doors at 5pm, it takes at least 15minutes to lock up and set alarms etc. Often there are customers milling about who don't leave until after 5, so daily we are kept behind until 15 or 30 minutes after our shift ends....because of this I work about 7 hours extra unpaid per month because if this...can you tell it annoys me Grin)

Bluetac19 · 05/09/2019 19:07

Start 7am. Officially start 8.30am (teacher).

Mummyilovejokes1 · 05/09/2019 19:11

Flexi here so start as soon as i get in to the office, and then a shorter lunch to get away earlier!

AnneElliott · 05/09/2019 19:13

We are on flexi so can arrive any time up until 10am. When I worked in retail I arrived about 15 mins before my shift started.

origamiunicorn · 05/09/2019 19:17

I don't have a fixed start and work on Flexi time, do I get in when I get in.

I generally get in half hr before I want to start.
If I aim one morning to get in for half 8, I'll get in the "office" at 8 and then get a coffee and relax a bit/read the intranet/works forums before stating some work.

Obi73 · 05/09/2019 19:25

Headteacher - start time is at 8:40am as per my contract but arrive at 7am.

Newmumma83 · 05/09/2019 19:28

I used to get in 45 mins early ... I liked to set my day up so all my emails before we opened and all the other jobs came into play. Due to go back from mat leave in two months I reckon about 5 mins before hand ?

CluedoIsMyFavGame · 05/09/2019 19:28

New job in a school so I'm arriving 30mins early to avoid the throng of kids around the gates and the traffic only gets worse and worse the later I leave. Currently dropping the kids off at childcare and driving straight in. Leaving 15mins late because I want the kids and school buses to have mostly left before I'm driving off site.

Enjoying the job and as it's new, I'm working more slowly. Once I'm up to speed I will probably stop off in the staff room for coffee first.

Oblomov19 · 05/09/2019 19:38

I arrive 5 minutes before my start time. Then I go and make tea and breakfast.

Everyone I know does this. At my new job and my old job.

blahblahblahblahhh · 05/09/2019 19:46

I have a flexible job so don't have an official start time but if I have a meeting or something at a set time I'd want to be in work about an hour before that.

CrispMornings · 05/09/2019 19:50

obi contacts for senior staff are open to interpretation I hope you will agreee. One's commitment on a head's salary and jd is a little different to that of an nqt or more junior member of staff I hope you'd agree. God help us if an HT you don't.
