Yesterday (Tuesday), I arranged an appointment. The person said, “I can fit you in next Wednesday.”

Would you turn up today or on Wednesday of next week?

Next Wednesday as if it was today I'd assume they'd have said tomorrow

ShadyLady53 · 04/09/2019 09:39

That’s what I thought too Natasha.

Next week. Wouldn’t hurt to double check, though? It’s for this reason that I always make sure I give the date as well. Different people have different interpretations of this/next Wednesday etc.

ShadyLady53 · 04/09/2019 09:41

Their argument is that today is the “next” Wednesday and I’m worried about having to pay a cancellation fee.

Definitely next week. If they meant today, they would have said “I can fit you in tomorrow”.

BrittleJoys · 04/09/2019 09:47

Your interpretation is the generally accepted one. They needed to say ‘tomorrow’ if the appointment was arranged yesterday,

ShadyLady53 · 04/09/2019 09:47

Apparently with the kids going back yesterday they lost track of days and thought yesterday was Monday Hmm and that I should have known the “next” Wednesday from yesterday was today.

She should have just given me the date.

pinkoneblueone · 04/09/2019 09:49

The way you are wording it I would assume it's next week tbh

pinkoneblueone · 04/09/2019 09:49

Double check the date of the appointment

CherryPlum · 04/09/2019 09:53

Next week.

You definately shouldn't be asked to pay any cancellation fee - they didn't give you the date for a start, they made it sound like next week, plus they themselves are saying they lost track of the days.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 04/09/2019 09:58

Apparently with the kids going back yesterday they lost track of days and thought yesterday was Monday and that I should have known the “next” Wednesday from yesterday was today.

Even on Monday I'd have assumed they meant next week - today would be "this Wednesday" to me in that scenario

georgialondon · 04/09/2019 10:00

Next week

cubed123 · 04/09/2019 10:05

Next week

SistersOfMerci · 04/09/2019 10:05

If it was Wednesday this week and they were muddled and thought it was Monday, then surely they'd have said I can fit you in ON Wednesday, not next Wednesday.

cubed123 · 04/09/2019 10:06

Even if it was Monday they should have said ‘this Wednesday’

Timtamtom · 04/09/2019 10:07

Next week definitely

spiderlight · 04/09/2019 10:07

Today is 'this Wednesday'. Next Wednesday is the 11th.

Timtamtom · 04/09/2019 10:08

If she’d meant today she’d have said ‘this Wednesday’ or ‘Wednesday coming up’

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 04/09/2019 10:10

If it was Monday and you were talking about two days' time, you still would say 'I can fit you in This Wednesday' or just '... on Wednesday', wouldn't you. Next Wednesday is the Wednesday of next week!
Have you confirmed it's booked for today?

Troglod · 04/09/2019 10:13

Agree with what everyone here is saying. Also want to add that if this person got Monday and Tuesday confused that is their problem, not yours, and you shouldn’t have to pay a cancellation fee because of it.

Troglod · 04/09/2019 10:15

Also want to add, in case last post wasn’t clear. That even if she did believe yesterday was Monday it still doesn’t make sense to refer to this Wednesday as ‘next Wednesday’. Nutter.

LemonBreeland · 04/09/2019 10:16

Even if it had been Monday I would still have assumed next Wednesday to be next week, not today. If they meant this week I would have expected them to say I can fit you in on Wednesday.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/09/2019 10:18

I've always thought this was regional... where are you?

I think you've got grounds for refusing a cancellation fee as you reasonably believed it to be next week, and presumably got no emails/texts/documents with the date on.

ShadyLady53 · 04/09/2019 10:18

The appointment was apparently for 9am today rather than what I thought was next Wednesday. She’s text to say she gets messed around a lot and there will be a missed appointment fee Hmm.
