10pm the night before back to school: am I the only one?

Fuckety fucksticks, WHY have I left it until tonight to fill in the Health Care Plan, consisting of 28,000 forms that have to be handwritten, with each box being so miniscule you can barely fit "see separate note" in it, and each form duplicating approx 75% of what was on the form you filled in last?

PLEASE tell me you are squinting like a mole trying to sew 200 name tapes, or emptying every cupboard in the house looking for a school tie...I'm not the only disgracefully disorganised slattern am I? Blush

DD and I went back today.

Last night I had to hunt the house for my lanyard.
As we were about to leave this morning I couldn't find DD's water bottle (gave up and bought her a bottle of water on the way in) got to school and realised I hadn't actually labelled her trainers or plimsolls this afternoon while playing match the jumpers round my classroom with the correct children I had this sudden thought of "I wonder if I labelled DD's jumper?" I hadn't, thankfully she hadn't left it anywhere because getting it out of lost property without admitting I had committed such a terrible sin would have been a nightmare.

DD is in year 10 and I never managed to buy her everything in advance. This year I’ve bought her new trousers sometime in May and put them aside. She looked the same to me all this time. She tried them over weekend and they’re too small. New trousers will only arrive tomorrow afternoon. So she’ll go to school tomorrow in her old trousers which are still ok for some reason. I’ve just ironed them and signed her blazer with a marker. The shirts, rucksack, pencil case, water bottle and lunch bag are all from the last year. Also I’ve just realised ( after 3 yeas in secondary school) that her PE shorts should be different colour. And this colour, of course, sold out everywhere in her size.

I sensibly ordered DS2's new school trousers in July. His old ones were badly worn and getting too short.

Only, thanks to puberty, he's 4" taller than July, but got really skinny, as a result, so there's no way the 15s can be made to fit him, so I ordered a few more 14s to supplement what i hadn't disposed of, until he bulks up again (he's seriously skinny, after a year of being quite chubby!)

PickAChew · 03/09/2019 23:35

Ordered yesterday to arrive today, btw!

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 03/09/2019 23:36

I've just reminded DH he needs to label DS uniform, etc for Thursday so basically this will be him tomorrow!

The deal was that I would buy it all and he could label it! I do have iron on labels.

Riddleofthesands · 03/09/2019 23:37

MILHouse summer journal started this morning, been there, really made me laugh.

EmilyStar · 03/09/2019 23:42

I discovered at 6pm the day before school went back that I hadn’t washed the PE kits.

ReanimatedSGB · 03/09/2019 23:43

I washed DS' (old, very shabby) blazer this afternoon, as we strolled along to the uniform shop and found a queue of about 100 people fighting and snarling and ragepissing, so we ran away. He goes back on Friday, so I can probably leave it till then to get his new PE kit...

EdWinchester · 03/09/2019 23:48

No, but ds has tried on all his trousers and they’re now upper ankle skimming. Which, I helpfully reminded him, is trendy.

morrisseysquif · 03/09/2019 23:49

I did a full uniform wash at 3.30pm today, pegged it and and prayed for a surprise heatwave.

It's now in the box room / office on the heated airer.

AuditAngel · 03/09/2019 23:55

Since mine don’t go back until Thursday/Monday I am still in Spain.

I think I have everything, but DS may need new trousers.....

SadOtter · 03/09/2019 23:58

@EdWinchester That is genius. Did it work?

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/09/2019 00:12

Shit, I am half way through dd's form. Rest of it tomorrow now.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/09/2019 00:14

We are missing a few bits still but as I can not take autistic and hypermobile autistic children into town/supermarket unless an absolute emergency and for minimum time then they will have to stay missing until they are back in school.

IncrediblySadToo · 04/09/2019 00:27

I am going to learn from this, I mean it

Yeah Right! Good Luck with that!!

I keep thinking that, but about other things, not back to school.

I’m a bit of a PITA the other way, I NEED everything organised well before we go on holiday. All checked again when we are back and all fitted things checked the weekend before to make sure they still fit (they grow like weeds on steroids over the summer!!)

....but there are plenty of other things I leave until the last minute and end up pulling all-nighters to get done!

I’m TRYING to be better!!

We’ve been back a couple of days now, but I hope all of you back over the next few days get through it unscathed!!

AnnonniMoose · 04/09/2019 01:05

This thread has made me realise that buying trainers for PE/sports hadn't even crossed my mind. Desperately googling trainers now Grin.

AnnonniMoose · 04/09/2019 01:19

@avamiah - She went into melt down at 9 pm and said her school skirt was too long.??

Mine went into meltdown this evening because her school blouse is too long!!!

Crap, forgot about sports socks.

AnnonniMoose · 04/09/2019 01:28

Has anyone else had the joy of DC pulling labels off new uniform before they make sure it fits, so you can't exchange it for a different size? Bloody kids. Well, she'll just have to wear the massive PE shorts now, as it's her fault she pulled off the labels.

avamiah · 04/09/2019 01:52

AnnonniMoose
Lol , don’t forget the water bottle 😬

avamiah · 04/09/2019 02:01

Mine had the Chilly’s rose gold last term but can you believe that she dropped it ( threw it more like 😬)and it got a dent in it.??
So that’s in the back of the cupboard and she got the new blue one ( I think it has ducks etc on) .

rose69 · 04/09/2019 02:09

I'm writing name in clothes. Did join scramble for school uniform

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 04/09/2019 02:18

To all you people writing names in with a sharpie, how on earth do you make it legible? When I tried this the letters all bled into each other to make a huge black mess.

Swore I'd get everything organised at the beginning of the holidays, and obviously was still name tag sewing at 10pm on Monday (Tuesday start). They only have one named set of uniform each as I'm doing a bit of sewing each night.

And don't even get me started on badges for DS2's beavers uniform.

ButtonMooooon · 04/09/2019 02:24

I shall tell my story of woe at being TOO organised!

At the beginning of the summer holidays DS1 needed new trainers. He has ridiculously narrow feet and we can only buy him Clark's otherwise he falls over in cheaper ones. Whilst in there they said we could save 20% on the trainers if we bought school shoes at the same time. So we did. On Monday I was getting sorted and went to put his name in new school shoes, got last years out and they are identical! Same size, colour and style! We'd both forgotten we'd had to replace them in the Spring!

Luckily they returned them (credit onto a gift card as we were over 30 days).

Tomorrow is my first school run with 4 week old DS2 as he arrived during the holidays. The pram is up and bags are already on it ready to go.
Hopefully we'll be on time!!

AnnonniMoose · 04/09/2019 02:44

@avamiah - luckily the water bottles were bought weeks ago Grin.

@MyGhastIsFlabbered - tell me about it! When DTDs started cubs I had 11 new badges each to sew on! 22 Badges all had to be done by the following week.

Grandcentralstation · 04/09/2019 02:49

I thought I was organised but ds is currently screaming ‘I don’t fucking know ok’ in her sleep so maybe I’m missing something ConfusedGrin
