10pm the night before back to school: am I the only one?

Fuckety fucksticks, WHY have I left it until tonight to fill in the Health Care Plan, consisting of 28,000 forms that have to be handwritten, with each box being so miniscule you can barely fit "see separate note" in it, and each form duplicating approx 75% of what was on the form you filled in last?

PLEASE tell me you are squinting like a mole trying to sew 200 name tapes, or emptying every cupboard in the house looking for a school tie...I'm not the only disgracefully disorganised slattern am I? Blush

As said, I’ve bought the stick on labels for a few years now, go on everything from shirts to skirts to pens to pack lunch boxes, eBay/amazon are your friend!!

Raphael34 · 03/09/2019 22:24

Cuddlysnowleopard you’ve not managed to wash your sons blazer in the month and a half he had off?? I’d be mortified sending my children into school for a new school year in clothes that haven’t been washed since the last one Shock

Bobbiepin · 03/09/2019 22:24

If it makes you all feel any better, I'm a teacher and I'm not prepared for the kids going back to school (mine is too young for now but our timetables have changed recently). We're all in the same boat!

RickOShay · 03/09/2019 22:24

Now ds2 is downstairs
Can’t slerp

trilbydoll · 03/09/2019 22:25

Uniform and shoes are sorted but we haven't done too well at getting back to the termtime bedtime and I'm going to be up until 1am tidying up for the cleaners so who knows if we will wake up in time!

Persimmonn · 03/09/2019 22:28

No. I did all name ironing on Sunday. Bathed, laid out uniform on their chairs and bedded by 9.15...which is the earliest they’ve slept since May. Need to work on bed times. I’m only organised because I need to drop them on the way to work and I hate screaming in the morning, so everything is ready like a military operation. The last 2 weeks turned my children into animals and I can’t bear to start the day in a shit mood. I’m so happy they’re going back.

AnnonniMoose · 03/09/2019 22:28

My DTDs start high school tomorrow Shock, and I'm very pleased with myself. Everything is organised, even stopped by Tesco on the way home as they told me this afternoon they need scissors and glue sticks and they don't have any. I've ordered iron on name tags which should arrive tomorrow. I'm not sorting out their PE kits tonight as I'm assuming they won't be doing PE on the first day.

The only thing I have left to do is iron their uniforms, which I will do right now Grin.

I feel for you with the forms though OP - I had to fill in a gazillion forms x 2 as I have twins. Luckily the high school insisted on having the forms returned before the holidays, so they're all done still did them the night before they needed to be in though.

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/09/2019 22:29

I forgot to buy new jumpers from the school before the holidays.Blush Our childminder is going to go in the morning and see if she can buy 2, and DD can put it straight on.

PorridgeAgainAbney · 03/09/2019 22:29

This thread has made me happy Grin. I love the sound of the name stamper. I used Stickins on everything that he's still in at the moment so I might order one of those ready for the next growth spurt.

Good to know that teachers are just as bad as us civilians Wink.

We got shoes today. Last year's uniform still sort of fits. They have book bags and lunch boxes. They won't do PE on the first day back. I'm drinking whisky and thinking about a shop run to get some more diet coke. We'll be FINE Grin Gin

WhispersOfWickedness · 03/09/2019 22:30

Raphael34, I think that if you're shocked by that, this is probably not the thread for you 🤣

I was tearing round looking for pe kit earlier, I was sure I had sorted it all already!! Luckily their school isn't fussed by a uniform for pe, so they have got slightly random t-shirts 😅

Mitzicoco · 03/09/2019 22:32

Oh to hell with it all OP. Nothing bad is going to happen in the grand scheme of things!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 03/09/2019 22:33

I for once, have actually managed to get organised. I ordered DD to pack her school bag, gather uniform and shoes in one place.

Pretty sure something has been forgotten.

Derbee · 03/09/2019 22:35

Just googled. The stamp is down to £14.99, order it for future stuff 😀

WhisperingJesse · 03/09/2019 22:35

DD (14) has just discovered that of 3 pairs of school trousers, 1 doesn't fit, one pair is lost and the remaining pair that fits is dirty and has been on her bedroom floor since July (by the look of them). I'm already in bed; DH is just putting a wash on ...

Rosie2000 · 03/09/2019 22:37

Teacher here too, my own kids reasonably organised and I’m desperately trying to get myself ready now for the first day back. Looking forward to seeing all the kids again Smile

Mitzicoco · 03/09/2019 22:40

Raphael34 are you trying to make people feel good?

Dontthrowfruitatacomputer · 03/09/2019 22:41

Washing new uniform...? It's all nice and crispy new... Does it even need ironing?! Haven't bothered with name tags since eldest was in reception. Pretty sure there want be PE in first week. Mine have declined haircuts. Hoping I'm not going to be badly caught out by something I hadn't thought of!!

AChickenCalledDaal · 03/09/2019 22:42

New school blouses were purchased at 4pm this afternoon. There were a lot of people in the uniform shop. Perhaps it was you lot!

Oh, and I found DD2's PE kit this morning. In a plastic bag in the hall where it has languished hidden under some other stuff for the last six weeks. And then I received an email confirming that Year 10 do, indeed, have PE tomorrow and must bring their kit. Doh!

I can confirm that it is now clean and named. So I don't need to feel mortified Raphael can sleep easy tonight.

(I haven't washed her blazer though ...)

S1naidSucks · 03/09/2019 22:47

Raphael34, this is Mumsnet, not that other delicate lot. We’re not as perfect over here, nor do we pretend to be. Well some do pretend, tbf but they’re soon told to naff of.

RB68 · 03/09/2019 22:48

We bought a stamp and it was less than a 10 er - still had ink from crafting so win there. DD did her own this year

She also bought her trousers for school and checked out shoes online so we turned up and tried on a grand total of 3 pairs and were out the door.

As for prepping uniform bags and so on she does all that and has done since about yr 3 I reckon she just tells me whats needed.

Tacobellend · 03/09/2019 22:48

Oh my god , i need to go find her tie this has just reminded me I haven't seen her tie since July .

clary · 03/09/2019 22:49

Ds2 is my only child in school now (eep! going into year 12!) but he has come up to scratch pretty well - he just came down with a shirt that he wants me to iron.

They have only been sitting there since the start of July 🙄

TheBrockmans · 03/09/2019 22:50

Oops haven't done the HCP. Fortunately nothing is vital. I am going to brave it out and do it tomorrow morning once they are all in school then saunter into the reception with it at lunchtime and make out that was my intention all the time as I didn't want to send her in with all the drugs (secondary).

steppemum · 03/09/2019 22:50

dd2 started secondary today.
Her pe kit is at the school shop, they had to be embroidered and weren't ready. School shop is miles away, kids take the train to town where school and shop are.

dd went in today with her big sister's pe kit in case she needed it.
Ds finished early (first day of sixth form) I asked him to collect it from shop. He 'didn't have time'
Dd2 then left her sister's pe kit in her locker at school.

Both dds in tomorrow (it was year 7s only today) and they have one pe kit between them.
Dd1 won't get it after school, she thinks she will miss the train (she won't )
ds not in tomorrow
dd2 can't get it, she has only just worked out the route to school, hasn't worked out the route to shop.

I might have to get the shop to post it!
