10pm the night before back to school: am I the only one?

Fuckety fucksticks, WHY have I left it until tonight to fill in the Health Care Plan, consisting of 28,000 forms that have to be handwritten, with each box being so miniscule you can barely fit "see separate note" in it, and each form duplicating approx 75% of what was on the form you filled in last?

PLEASE tell me you are squinting like a mole trying to sew 200 name tapes, or emptying every cupboard in the house looking for a school tie...I'm not the only disgracefully disorganised slattern am I? Blush

Nope. We finished at 4.30pm today, having just bought school shoes .

MajesticWhine · 03/09/2019 22:51

I did name tapes 2 nights ago (smug) and have packed the sports kit, but on the down side, blazer is not cleaned, has no buttons, and I don't know where school bag is, nor have checked for pens, pencils etc. Ah well, it'll all be ok.

RB68 · 03/09/2019 22:52

Mind you she is 14 these days so we have the routine down pat - GCSE years OMG where did time go

MILHouse · 03/09/2019 22:53

I was very organised and ordered the new uniforms as soon as we broke up. I kid you not, the boxes sat unopened in my hallway until yesterday!

DS2 had to keep a summer journal. He started it this morning.

MILHouse · 03/09/2019 22:54

Oh and I’m waiting up for an underwear load to finish as DS had no clean pants for tomorrow. It’s the same every bloody year. I’m actually cross with myself this time.

Dogwalks2 · 03/09/2019 23:00

Mulhouse.. favourite post. Summer journal started this morning. I’ve been there even made kids have 3 changes of clothes to make it look authentic.

mumwon · 03/09/2019 23:03

& you will all be well organised tomorrow dc will be in good moods get upon time eat their breakfast & definitely not remember something they need & haven't got 5 minutes before they need to leave (I remember it well & am having a good laugh - sorry folks!)

Bunnylady53 · 03/09/2019 23:04

DD10 starts back on Thurs. Actually not too bad this year. I have only just ordered name labels but DD has enough from last term to keep her going & the labels should arrive in a few days. We bought backpack, lunch bag, water bottle & pens yesterday. DM bought her shoes, socks & new shirts last week.

tumpymummy · 03/09/2019 23:05

I'm lucky, mine are teenagers so organise themselves. Just have to get myself up and ready for school tomorrow (I work in a school).

Tiredtessy · 03/09/2019 23:06

I use a sharpie pen to write names in school uniform 😁

Popuppippa · 03/09/2019 23:08

4th child, first day at secondary school tomorrow, back from holiday yesterday and I realised at 5pm today that I had not bought any white shirts.

DH despatched at 5.01pm to Next and bought the very last twin pack in the size too small so DC actually had something to wear.

He did a driveby of the local uniform shop where people like us were queueing out the door and up the road! We're not alone Grin

It's very annoying because I do have (multiple) pairs of football boots in every size from 5-11 but no, it was the white shirts I decided to Marie Kondo.

FrangipaniBlue · 03/09/2019 23:09

PLEASE tell me you are squinting like a mole trying to sew 200 name tapes

Yep, this is EXACTLY what I've just spent my evening doing!!

Mrsfrumble · 03/09/2019 23:15

I’ve just finished sewing the bare minimum of name tapes to get through tomorrow, and now my fingers are sore.

School shoes were purchased on Friday, and uniform yesterday, and I’ve just remembered I need to go online and pay for after school clubs before the morning...

NCBabyBoy · 03/09/2019 23:16

I'm the teacher and I'm not ready either we started yesterday

Dropped DS off at nursery. DH "Have we got his bottle?" Me "fuck!" Nursery manager "Is it your first day back?" Blush

Vinorosso74 · 03/09/2019 23:19

I was quite smug as once I'd emptied a load of sand from DD's back and put bits in it I thought we were ready. She has no uniform so nothing tonairt there.
However, one piece of homework she did a PowerPoint which DP had a nightmare printing out at work. That said I asked him to do it last week and he was the one who left it until late on today.......

avamiah · 03/09/2019 23:20

OMG my 9 year old( year 5 ) tomorrow has only just fell asleep ( 11.10 pm) ??

quince2figs · 03/09/2019 23:20

My 2 back today, ds up to same school as dd. Thought had it all covered, to find only had 2 new shirts for ds, and his new uniform (despite fitting perfectly, apparently, 3 weeks ago) was on the slightly generous side. Cue tantrum. Stickers for most, but still sewing nametapes on sports socks, shirts and jumpers at 10:30 last night. With the bluntest only hand sewing needle I have. Dcs still chatting when had finished, despite vowing to have them in bed and asleep by 9.
They are clean, at least, and ds sporting a mature new hairdo with product in the quiffy fringe. Sob.
All went well today, at least 😁. Dd shirts covered in fluff as I didn’t pre-wash her cardigan. Dutch plaiting her hair at 10pm today in prep for PE tomorrow. And relax.

Metempsychosis · 03/09/2019 23:20

I went to John Lewis on Sunday and saw the state of the queue in the children’s show department Shock. So pleased to have a sixth former and not bother with uniforms.

Metempsychosis · 03/09/2019 23:21

“Show” = “shoe”
Bloody iphone

allthingsred · 03/09/2019 23:22

My dd came down at 9 pm & told me her tie has been changed. Apparently she has the old style tie & uniform was changed last year.
I want to cry...really really want to cry.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 03/09/2019 23:23

Summer journal started this morning.

I’ve been there even made kids have 3 changes of clothes to make it look authentic.

MILHouse and Dogwalks You've both made me laugh.

Just read some of these out to these DP. He's ironing and I'm labelling with sharpie and sorting stationery. We both feel better that it's not just us. Every. Single. Year.

avamiah · 03/09/2019 23:26

She went into melt down at 9 pm and said her school skirt was too long.??
I have to be honest I told her dad that if he continues to watch the tv while she is screaming she isn’t going to school then I will have to leave the house and retreat to the local pub

Yabbers · 03/09/2019 23:29

DD had her bag packed a fortnight before she went back. We teased her of course. (She is usually a tail end Charlie)

I went to iron the school tops the night before, smug I hadn’t had to buy new ones. Discovered they were really grotty and remembered my plan had been to soak them in vanish, wash and hang them out for a week in the sun to brighten them up. I ironed the least worst one and made a trip to the school uniform store that morning.

Also remembered the plan had been to clean her wheelchair which was minging after a summer being carted about and used way more often for mealtimes out. 🤢 It got a quick going over with detox spray and a cloth, with hope she didn’t need it until the cushion had dried!

TanMateix · 03/09/2019 23:30

Do you need to fill the health care plan yourself? I just rang the allergy nurses at the hospital and they are posting directly to the school.

... having said that, they ALWAYS get it wrong.

JacquettaW · 03/09/2019 23:33

@AnnonniMoose Fecking scissors! I knew there was something I forgot! Never mind, they have communal scissors and glue in schools and will get a pair tomorrow. My DS also starting in year 7 tomorrow and I had to panic order a French dictionary this evening!

As for name tags, I haven't done any and will be writing his name in items in the morning.

Uniform was bought the other week but had to make a return trip to the shop last week for an out of stock footy shirt. On my last visit, the shop was rammed
