Simple things that make your life so much edit?

Every night my phone battery would be low and without fail I’d be sitting awkwardly at a funny angle on the couch trying to look through Mumsnet whilst it charged plugged in. DH ordered me a charger for about £10 with a cable over 1m long and it has changed my life! What other small things have made your life much more pleasant?

More - USB 4 socket plugs that can be used at home and abroad. Packing cubes. My Kindle.

Plainandsimple · 04/09/2019 22:14

Puppymonkey how much?! Shock Maybe I can manage to carry on plugging in my old Sebo after all!

Fujexa · 04/09/2019 22:46

Not to derail but can someone talk to me about spray mops? I hate washing the floor - do these make it easier??

For my part - podcasts for long drives, our robot lawnmower, paying someone else to do the ironing, and my heated windscreen/ heated seats all make life so much nicer!

theSnuffster · 04/09/2019 23:09

Amazon Alexa.

Fujexa "Not to derail but can someone talk to me about spray mops? I hate washing the floor - do these make it easier??"

Its a mop (flat headed, extra heads can be bought and washed in machine) with a bottle built in. Fill the bottle with your detergent of choice, pull the trigger handle and it squirts it onto the floor directly ahead which you then mop.

Floor dries in a few seconds and hey presto. You can store the mop with the detergent in it (I do) so you don't have to fill up each time, just grab it and go! I have washed the floor more times in the last month than I probably have in 10 years because its so convenient.

So many good ideas on this thread!!

For me atm it's having my lip balms on my key rings (I put a small hole in the end of it and looped it on my keys) - I have my car and house keys on there too so I'm never leaving the house without a lip balm especially when you need one in this inbetween summer/autumn weather Grin

Drogosnextwife · 05/09/2019 08:58

My cordless gtech. It's so light and small and I just have it sitting out incase I need it.

Self adhesive hooks. I have them everywhere now, for kids school bags, my bags, my mini iron, my hair dryer and the other stuff I need.

Little metal ikea shelves that go into kitchen cupboards. They give you double the space and the plastic storage boxes to hold the kids water bottles in. They were always falling out the cupboard in top of me, not anymore.

House plants, not useful but I love looking at them.

Dehumidifier. Stick it in the kitchen with the door closed over night and it dries the washing by morning. I've no room for a tumble dryer.

Mine are clear pouch/es in my handbag/s that I can transfer from bag to bag; collapsible crates for washing- these were a revelation. I saw my SIL using them. They're cheap (we also used them for camping) and space saving; I've just bought a cordfree vacuum that will stay upstairs so that will stop people having to lug the wired one up and down stairs; a phone charger in my car with 3 different types of sockets for Apple, Samsung and one other. That's been used loads.

morrisdog · 05/09/2019 12:20

The grocery delivery driver just brought in 10 bags in one trip! So much nicer than unloading at the door and having me carry them in 2 at a time

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 05/09/2019 12:34

Loving this thread!

Mine are my spray mop, my steam mop, and washable puppy pads.

Can you tell I have elderly dogs? BlushGrin

kjhkj · 05/09/2019 12:47

small pull out ironing board in my wardrobe. Makes far more sense to iron upstairs with the clothes than downstairs with the washing machine IMO

Orangecake123 · 05/09/2019 13:14

@PuppyMonkey

I also became an odd sock wearer- everything goes in one box under my bed! It's so much easier and I like seeing what I'll get when I pick randomly. A panda sock with a floral one= magic!

neverornow · 05/09/2019 17:32

I LOVE this thread! Here's mine, most of which already covered;

Black socks only for me and DH

Basket of cleaning products upstairs and downstairs
2 * Vacuum cleaner 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs

Baskets everywhere; one inside front door with umbrellas, DC's hats & gloves, utility full of them with one for cleaning products, one for candles, one for electrical cables etc

Separate toiletries bag and mini makeup bag with the essentials for gym bag

Mini make up bag in front hall with spare hair ties and essentials- mascara, foundation

Clear/see through make up bags in handbag; one with charger and earphones, a (3rd) mini make up bag with essentials, small hand cream, tissues, lip balm

Nappy/changing caddy's upstairs and downstairs for DS

Long phone charger cables as per op. I also found really good sturdy ones and was using them and they were lasting me ages...but now they're no longer in stock and I've had to go back to "normal" ones. 😪

Re podcasts, I've asked on mn before too many times I'd love to "get into" these but have NO idea how they work? My main worry is clicking on one unaware that there's a fee to listen to it and spending money without realising. I'd also like to know how if you can/how easy it is to "rewind" them. My concentration isn't the best due to illness/meds so sometimes mind wanders and I need to "rewind" things I'm watching by streaming.

"My hand held hoover" care to recommend shellysheridan ? I need one for my bedroom as its too small/cluttered for even a cylinder Hoover.

"Internet grocery shopping" definitely! Currently housebound but even if I weren't I'm on 4th floor no lifts and NO WAY I could manage a weekly shop up here myself!

"Having all my socks identical so no pairing up needed." I do this! So much easier.

Amazon prime people - I'm a new subscriber (well few months) but mainly use it for the video though recently discovered free magazines which I'm loving - Any tips?

I'll be looking into pressreader too - ouch except needs iOS 11.2 or more. I have a long standing issue with not having updated my iOS since I bought phone, and I am DREADING it! But will need to do it soon as more and more apps crashing. (Mid writing update, just spoke to apple, not backed up phone to iCloud for almost 2 years either and need to do that first - the wee info thingy is saying "14 hours remaining" and I had to buy more storage - oops!!!! BlushShockConfused)

Thinking one of you may be able to help me with my thread here:

Yes to houseplants!!

I love the jungle in my big, south-facing bay window all winter, and I have fresh rosemary and a few more herbs whenever I need them.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 05/09/2019 20:59

I’ve just ordered an extra-long phone charger cable, thanks to this thread!

Most of mine have been covered already, but:

Upstairs and downstairs hoovers. Soooo much easier.
Handheld Dyson. I get much less stressy about stray crumbs and cat hair now.
Internet grocery shopping - Ocado and I had our 17-year anniversary recently, which made me feel very old!
Free e-books and audiobooks from the library - just wish they worked on Kindle.
Phone chargers in almost every room.
Instant Pot - tasty meals, stat!
Plastic baskets in food cupboards.
Using calendar app on phone and syncing it with DP’s.
All to-do lists and shopping lists on phone.
Taking a big Contigo thermos mug of coffee to work.

PennyDreadfuI · 05/09/2019 21:00

Making a key 'leash' for each of my bags. Just loop a ribbon (or a hair band or whatever) through the zip pull of the inside pocket and attach your keyring with one of those clips that come attached to trolley tokens. SO much better/frustration avoiding than rummaging in my bag on a rainy doorstep and it frees up the actual inside pocket for other crap essentials.

A large money box which I place all loose change in that's left lying around then bag up and take to the bank every few months,

My robotic lawn mower.
I can sit down and relax with a cuppa, er, I mean do other jobs, while it mows my lawn.

Wehttam · 05/09/2019 23:38

Konjac sponge for cleansing face- it’s a miraculous when paired with actual foam cleanser too, skin feels 10 years younger.
Byredo candles (Bohemia, Carousel, Woods, Chai and more)
Breakfast in bed every day.
Nespresso (no mess fabulous coffee)
Jeffree Starr lip scrubs then Nivea classic lip balm after (perfection)
Playing 432hz music videos on YouTube through the Bose
Tibetan singing bowls (divine)
Hiring a locker at the gym to store my toiletries and kit in
Sonicare toothbrush

Graphista · 06/09/2019 00:18

Are all podcasts free? Or just the ones on iPhone app? I have a kindle fire too and I'd probably want to access podcasts on that too. Another factor is I like music/streaming/some kind of noise to fall asleep to (awful habit I know but never been a good sleeper and it's only way I can sleep)

I'm backing up to iCloud now after talking to Apple earlier..."about 2 days remaining" wtf!! My own bloody fault of course but OH MY GOD!!
