Simple things that make your life so much edit?

Every night my phone battery would be low and without fail I’d be sitting awkwardly at a funny angle on the couch trying to look through Mumsnet whilst it charged plugged in. DH ordered me a charger for about £10 with a cable over 1m long and it has changed my life! What other small things have made your life much more pleasant?

I have ME so can’t get about easily so these things have made life so much better:
Online grocery shopping
Amazon prime
Hairdresser coming to the house (also much cheaper because no salon overheads)
Weekly cleaner
Ditto to the lip balm/tissues/hand cream/ (and since dd arrived) baby wipes in every room, handbag and in the car.
This isn’t an ME thing but the a RingGo app for paying for parking, no more scrabbling for change!

I love this thread:

  1. Cordless Dyson
  2. Robot vacuum (though shortly to upgrade to one that also mops the floor - my least favourite job)
  3. Coffee maker that also foams milk to make a very acceptable cappuccino.
  4. Long charger cable - bought by accident, never again will I use a short one.
  5. USB sockets. Why are they not standard in all hotels?!
  6. Reusable pads. You can never run out again which I LOVE - before I was always having to make do with a crap panty liner or something ferreted out of an old handbag.
  7. Keeping a book in the glovebox.
  8. Separate gym toiletries
  9. Revolut - SOOOOO easy
10. Keeping my ‘monday’ shopping list on my phone. I buy the same basics every week but used to always miss something. No more.

Off to buy another two laundry baskets now 👍👍👍

  1. Pressreader app. Only worked out how to use it on my tablet a few weeks ago. It's changed my life!
  2. Ditto: Liby e-reader app. But you can only borrow a book if it's available on the shelf in one of the county libraries.
  3. A garlic peeler that looks like a giant piece of penne pasta. You unpeel a clove by pressing and rolling it inside. Cost £2 from eBay.
  4. Stocard app. Bit flaky. Mine only works with myWaitrose and M&S loyalty cards. But they're the ones I use the most.
  5. Small notepad and pen in my bag.
  6. Decent earphones. If I'm listening to music, I want to hear everything from a triangle to a dropped drumstick.
  7. Box of scrunchies and hair bobbles for DD.
  8. Maybelline SuperStay Matte Lip Ink. Does not budge. Even after a greasy meal.
CallarMorvern · 09/09/2019 13:24

Yes to the long charger cable, mine is from Tiger.
•Packing cubes
•Online grocery shopping
•DH and I have a duvet each...bliss!
•Microsoft One Note (on my Android phone) and laptop.
•Ikea blue bags ( though I've just got a Pride rainbow one!) Useful for laundry, beach days, recycling, logs...everything really.
•Skypak foldable travel bags.

HearMeSnore · 09/09/2019 15:17

In-car DVD player for long journeys. Not a peep out of DD now unless she needs a wee, and I can listen to Radio 4 comedy without worrying that she might hear something a bit too grown-up and difficult to explain.

Got it for £50 in Halfords sale and it's a good make, too.

Graphista · 09/09/2019 16:25

"Writing my mobile number on the label of my daughter’s favourite soft toy, so that if (when) we lost it, the finder could call us" that is a FANTASTIC idea! My dd 18 and past that now but I am saving it for when she has kids that's how good an idea it is!

Shouldibeworriedaboutthis · 09/09/2019 17:34

Love the phone number idea. Why haven’t I thought if that?! Handy for school stuff too!

Crackery · 09/09/2019 18:17

@Thatsnotmyname4291 please please tell me more about your robot vacuum and robot mop...

TildaKauskumholm · 09/09/2019 21:32

Really annoyed in my County libraries do not provide access to Pressreader. We do have RB Digital with about 20 magazines, half of them the crappy Take Break type, which is rubbish. Have looked up neighbouring area libraries which all have Pressreader, but to join you have to give ID proving residence in that area. Any ideas? Have contacted my library by email and phone but still waiting for response.

GiantKitten · 09/09/2019 22:50

Same here, Tilda Angry

Presumably it's something to do with budgets. My CC is struggling.

Thatsnotmyname4291 · 10/09/2019 12:25

I don’t have it yet but my SIL does. She swears by it. Vacuums every morning, then recharges itself then goes back out and ‘wet cleans’ what it’s just mopped?
We got a Dyson robot vac and it a) was stupidly expensive and b) doesn’t wash floors. And c) I have to leave the lights on for it to hoover.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/09/2019 12:39

A G-Homa light switch so I can switch the landing light off from my bedroom via the app on my phone.

DD can't get to sleep without the light on, I'd then have to creep downstairs and try and switch the light off, inevitably I would wake her up on the creaky floorboards.

Honestly it's a game changer!

SeaSaltandLime · 10/09/2019 14:06

I have downloaded the Readly app. For £10 a month it is amazing!!
99p for the first month at the moment too.

Found a backlog of autumn/winter recipes from all the different magazines going back years (2014/2015ish) and the food sounds incredible.
Can't wait to try them out.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 11/09/2019 10:01

@Thatsnotmyname4291 What model/make does your SIL have in robotvac? I can’t seem to find one online that vacs and mood? X

janj2301 · 11/09/2019 21:00

Hubby and I have seperate rooms, even greater bliss

Passthecake30 · 12/09/2019 13:56

Bobbles and clips live in a makeup bag rather than scattered all around the house so can't be found when needed
Lead Pencils and pens live in a pencil case (ditto above!)
Simply cook and hello fresh plans activated when I'm in a cooking rut
Smol delivery plan
Veg delivery plan
Buckets and spades live in the boot - both grandparents are at different coasts
Carrier bag that gets filled with clothes that no longer fit, books that have been read - straight into charity bag at work when full
A multi country night light with 2 USB adapters. Amazing!
Netflix on all devices for long flights, with downloaded films.
Power bank with 3 USB adaptors
When kids were little - changing upstairs and down. Particularly helpful when you have more than one child to keep an eye on.
Reserving books online and picking up from the library when available. Fab for saving hours on a Saturday.

Wolfcub · 13/09/2019 07:55

Thanks passthecake I’m going to give smol a go

FromTheAllotment · 14/09/2019 00:07

Anylist app for shopping lists. DH and I both have it so we can each add things whenever we think of them, whoever is shopping then has it all collated and you can set it up to have things categorised in the order you get to them in the supermarket.
Plus I can log onto it while DH is actually shopping and see how he’s doing and how much he has left to get!

Using my iPad as a portable tv while cleaning. Deep cleaning bathrooms is soooooo much less boring when I have Netflix or bbc iplayer keeping me company.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/10/2019 05:48

I know not everyone can do this because of money and space, but I have a double door cupboard in my bathroom and I’ve just bought shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, washing powder and fabric softener for the year.
All from Aldi. Oh, and washing-up liquid too.
It’s several things fewer to run out of and add to my mental burden. I’m feeling very happy about it. Smile

CupoTeap · 03/10/2019 06:53

A tub of coins that I empty my purse into, in the draw by the front door so dc has money for lunch.

A zipped pod for Charing cables/earphones/splitters, so now always have them on hand.

Bedside lamp with USB ports.

Top Netflix option so that we can all have our own account and sign in without someone moving on in our choices.

Prime!

CupoTeap · 03/10/2019 07:11

And a remote controlled fan for my bedroom and dry shampoo with conditioner in it - if dd hasn't brushed her hair at exh it sorts it straight out.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/10/2019 11:02

Bedside lamp with USB ports.
What??? Mind blown!

KaliforniaDreamz · 03/10/2019 12:16

Prime Now for when i am really stuck or lazy and need something for tea. can order limited groceries.

thespellhasbeenbroken123 · 03/10/2019 14:45

So many but the best one is my upstairs laundry room
My partner converted the box room into the most beautiful laundry room
And I have washing baskets on wheels so just wheel it all around upstairs!
It makes me happy !
