I'm always looking for something new to try.

At the moment my current obsessions are Cameroonian spaghetti omelettes and Alka Elephant squeezed pretzels. The latter are a bit too salty for my tastes but they're still addictive and I don't feel as though I'm going to break a tooth on them, unlike some other pretzel snacks.

What are your current food obsessions?

Dh has been making homemade burgers with chuck steak that the butcher minces up - they are the best burgers in the world!

Ellieboolou27 · 30/08/2019 20:06

Aldi rosemary wheat crackers, eaten the whole box with Philadelphia today 🐽

Roasted kale sounds good! Does it taste like crispy seaweed?

MustardScreams · 30/08/2019 20:07

I’ve recently discovered Parmalat truffle cooking cream. Oh god it is good. Truffle pasta in the time it takes to cook linguine. Parmesan and lemon on top, divine!!

lotusbell · 30/08/2019 20:08

@SamBeckett, yes, and the cashews and the rice cakes... Grin the flatbread are my faves though and I'm gutted to say they've gone up to £2.45 in Asda, they've been £1.50 since they came out!

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 30/08/2019 20:09

Hungry now. I've also recently switched on to Lime pickle

Having gestational diabetes I have had to rethink a lot of my carby snacks etc and have ended up buying a good bit of old fashioned junk just to have something to snack on. So my dirty little secret treats are:

Mr Porky's Pork Scratchings Blush - especially the really fatty ones. Fills the crisp void nicely.

Sugar free jelly with squirty cream. Feel like I'm a child again but I love it!

Peperami snack pack dipped in cheese spread (dairylea works well Blush)

Seriously strong spreadable squares - like a square dairylea triangle that unwraps in a very pleasing way.

Sliced gouda cheese - simply roll and go!
Sainsbury's smoked flavour roasted almonds - like the blue diamond ones but more in the packet for less money.

I do eat healthier things too but these are my favourite things to chomp on.

Have also discovered keto fat bombs - I made a mixture of coconut oil, peanut butter and cocoa, melted together and put in little moulds. Kept in the fridge or freezer they make a lovely mouthful of rich yumminess to give a little taste of something sweet but very low carb.

It does if you shred/slice it then roast it with salt, pepper and a bit of sugar. It's addictive.

Sam you need to try Nigella's Marmite Pasta. Bloody lovely stuff.

SamBeckett · 30/08/2019 20:15

@wigeon .
Try chicken thighs loosen the skin a little bit and shove about quarter / half a teaspoon of lime pickle and roast slowly.
Do NOT do this in a nonstick or stainless steel it will wreck it !
use glass or glazed pot / earthen ware.
I love this

SwizzelStick · 30/08/2019 20:15

Ooh and wholewheat noodles with a peanut butter sauce - pb, coconut milk (or cows milk), lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce with a pinch of chilli. With tofu baked or fried til crisp and stir fried veg. Toasted cashews or peanuts on top. Shredded cabbage slaw, spinach leaves etc. All the textures, tastes rich and creamy but healthy too. Unfortunately I can only have a small portion of the noodles but they are so good!!

SamBeckett · 30/08/2019 20:19

@lotusbell , I have not tried the rice crackers but oh yes to the nuts.

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz , I have not heard of this can you post a link for me ?

I am definitely going to give roasted kale a go.

I am going through a phase of roasting Brussel sprouts and sweet garlic, with some olive oil and chilli. Really lovely and not too unhealthy either.

I also get cauliflower 'steaks' from Sainsbury's veg section. They come ready marinaded in chimichurri so I just grill one and use it as the filling in a toasted sandwich (it HAS to be Vogel bread). Delicious!

tillytoodles1 · 30/08/2019 20:23

Caesar salad and blackened chicken cut into small pieces.

OhButMyDarling · 30/08/2019 20:23

Supernoodles with Hellmans chilli and garlic sauce. Food of the gods, but I am as common as muck.

SwizzelStick · 30/08/2019 20:26

I love roasted Brussels sprouts. I haven't tried them with chilli though. That sounds so good.

I'm obsessed with most roasted vegetables actually. I roasted a head of broccoli yesterday and ate the lot.

Ellieboolou27 · 30/08/2019 20:26

@SwizzelStick going to try that tomorrow sounds good and also healthy!

@DuggeesWoggle fatty pork scratching are the best!

DuggeesWoggle · 30/08/2019 20:29

That's on my post pregnancy scoff list, Tolleshunt - all the stuff that I can't have now but can once I'm no longer diabetic (although best not scoff too much of or might find myself with type 2!), It looks so so good!

Herefortheduration · 30/08/2019 20:30

Peanuts, always peanuts!

Herefortheduration · 30/08/2019 20:31

Oh and Boursin Cheese on Melba Toasts.

BeetlebumShesAGun · 30/08/2019 20:32

Aldi’s mini millionaire cheesecakes, we always buy them for a treat dinner, they come in 2 packs. DH loves them and he’s not even a dessert person. sometimes I wait until he falls asleep on the sofa and eat his
