Are we classed as carers

For a flu vaccination

We can only claim carers allowance once even though 3 dc qualify for it.
So its in my name for one child so I am ‘officially’ a carer

Can dh be considered a carer too for a flu vaccination as there is an underlying entitlement ?

I get invited as a Carer for flu jab (19yo disabled ds) but don’t think dh does. Ask your GP.

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:50

They told us last year ‘this has to stop. We shouldn’t be giving you vaccinations on the
Nhs’ ????

But I’m sure all carers do and ive made appt just want to be ready with whatever I need to quote

And yes they were aware of the dcs conditions etc so it made it even stronger they even questioned
I think this time I need to take my carers allowance letter but also the dla award showing middle / high /enhanced and then show the criteria for carers and explain we can only claim once but we are both still carers !

I've never been called for a flu jab (I'm a carer for my disabled son).

Ah I’ve found this ! I think it means we should be ok as it’s says gets carers allowance or are a carer so we both should be covered

This

Are we classed as carers
OP posts:
WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 29/08/2019 11:54

I didn't know only one parent could claim it for one child only too when they have 3 disabled children, that's ridiculous.

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:54

Oh not sure that posted was from nhs site

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:54

Yes with carers you can only claim it once per household even if multiple children have the middle or high rate care

OP posts:
Windygate · 29/08/2019 11:54

As the main carer you qualify but looks like DH doesn't

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 29/08/2019 11:55

I can see it.

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:55

So it’s an underlying entitlement I suppose
But it’s also a taxable benefit so we have to declare it for ctc

Yes with carers you can only claim it once per household even if multiple children have the middle or high rate care

That's astounding Shock

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:57

But technically I’m the main carer for the child I receive carers allowance for

The other 2 who get dla/pip I would assume dh is still able to claim to be their carer even though he’s not allowed to get carers allowance ?

OP posts:
99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:58

I just don’t want an awkward situation like last year !! We really had to almost beg made me feel a bit rubbish

OP posts:
99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 11:59

I’ll have to see how much it is then at a pharmacy for dh if not. Just seems a bit unfair but if it comes to it we need to both be as close as possible to 100% at all times and it hasn’t been a great year health wise so don’t want flu !

OP posts:
Oldraver · 29/08/2019 12:12

There are lots of carers like you DH who cant claim Carers Allowance. Surely that is what is covered in the leaflet you posted

Who was it that said "this has to stop, we shouldn't be giving you this on the NHS" ? They are wrong and it should be pointed out so they are not putting others off

10brokengreenbottles · 29/08/2019 12:16

You can only claim carer's allowance for one person, but there isn't a rule saying only one person in a household can claim carer's allowance. So you could claim CA for DC1 but you couldn't also claim for DC2 or DC3. But you could claim for DC1 and DH could claim for DC2.

We don't live in Thurrock but the first google search brought up this.

Despite not claiming carer's allowance because of earnings DH gets the flu vaccine each year via the GP and there has never been a problem, but I don't know if he officially should or not.

SummerLove2306 · 29/08/2019 12:19

It's only £14 at my pharmacy

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 12:30

It was a nurse at our gp practice

Dh works so can’t claim it. Yes I think the nhs info I found should be enough if I show them that ? Plus our letters?
But if it comes to it £14 is worth it to stay well over winter

OP posts:
10brokengreenbottles · 29/08/2019 12:46

I mentioned there isn't a rule limiting multiple people within the same household claiming carer's allowance for different people because your DH not being able to claim CA because he earns too much is not the same as not being able to claim CA because "with carers you can only claim it once per household"

Wonderbag · 29/08/2019 12:48

It’s about £7.50 at Asda

99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 13:17

I think because that’s what we were told I’ve probably worded it wrong I had asked why couldn’t I claim it x3 as 3 are at the rates that qualify and was told only once for the household

OP posts:
99problemsandjust1appt · 29/08/2019 13:19

I suppose even if dh didn’t work and claimed for a second dc then one would still only have the underlying entitlement if that makes sense ?! Probably not (sleep deprived)
Wow £7.50 not bad if they say no I’ll see where nearest Asda is
