(NC as I’ve text about this to a few people who haven’t replied yet)

I woke up about twenty min ago, funny feeling and went to check locks downstairs for reassurance (all secure).

There is a note on the kitchen sideboard, lined notebook paper and light blue ball point in blocky neat handwriting. It says:

‘This is your house Kathleen. You live here. David has the front bedroom and your bedroom is at the back. This is your house Kathleen and you can look at the garden.’

Really tidy kitchen, in the middle of an empty side. I went to bed last. Obv I’m not called Kathleen or anything similar and I don’t recognise the handwriting or even the pen ink.

Maybe this will be easier to grasp or solve in the morning? But right now I’m a bit 😳 and unable to sleep...

Weird!

Seeingadistance · 29/08/2019 10:55

Definitely a note for someone with dementia. Until my DF developed dementia I would’ve have realised what it was, but now my DM has notes around the house to remind my DF that this house is his home, how old his DDs are now and where they live etc. Sometimes he takes these notes to puzzle over, so I can see that this could have been dropped then found somewhere.

Still leaves the mystery of how it came to be in the OP’s kitchen.

Seeingadistance · 29/08/2019 10:56

I wouldn’t have realised ...

Seeingadistance · 29/08/2019 10:57

@pencilpot99

Yes, it makes me very sad too.

Wolfff · 29/08/2019 10:57

Many years ago I acquired a new flat mate and we went to an event. A young woman I didn't know was giving me the evils all night and I was told by flatmate who knew her that she hated my sister (woman was going out with my sisters ex who was still obsessed with my sister).

Later on me and flat mate were discussing this at home. Then flat mate spotted a piece of paper on the floor - it was a poison pen letter from said woman to my sister. Flatmate started screaming and freaking. We figured out it had been stored in a book of my sisters that flatmate was reading, but quite weird all the same.

Maybe something like that has happened here, in that the paper fell out of a book or was stuck behind or inside something.

I can see photo .Weird

BearRabbitPants · 29/08/2019 11:04

Place mark!

FuriousVexation · 29/08/2019 11:07

If it's a genuine dementia note then that is very sad. My GM had Lewy Body dementia and this type of note wouldn't have done any good.

STOP PLACEMARKING WITH A . AND LEARN HOW TO WATCH A THREAD.

Who made you the thread police?

VLCDoingIt · 29/08/2019 11:12

My Gran used to write like that. Right down to the large 'Y' s.

HennyPennyHorror · 29/08/2019 11:17

Thanks Soup and Shy ! For sharing the photo!

LoseLooseLucy · 29/08/2019 11:19

Turns out there's as many handwriting experts on MN as there are emetophobes.

RiddleyW · 29/08/2019 11:25

And people with misphonia

ssd · 29/08/2019 11:29

I'd agree with you both if I knew what the hell those were

Be1atrix · 29/08/2019 11:29

Kathleen definitely pissed in your kettle.

COME BACK OP! We're not all troll hunters.

Missmopfromcalifornia · 29/08/2019 11:32

My first thought when I saw the note was how much it looked like my 90 year old grandads handwriting. I often wonder if he has dyslexia as he really struggles with spelling and letter formation plus his writing is really wobbly nowadays anyway as he’s gotten older. It’s the sort of thing he might have written for my nan before she went into a care home.

soloula · 29/08/2019 11:34

God that's really creepy. Would love to know where it came from. Surely it's fallen out a book or got caught up with your messages or something?

stayathomer · 29/08/2019 11:40

Um, was it al203 that said they'd heard a noise and was off to investigate?

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/08/2019 11:41

My mum had dementia and would have written this kind of note in the early days. The writing is similar to hers although she used to put in random capital letters too. I'm going with the library book theory too.

stayathomer · 29/08/2019 11:43

willowmelangell I concur on your ironing board hypothesisWink

mawof3soontobe · 29/08/2019 12:13

Here's an idea.... If you don't believe a post, report quietly and walk away from the thread so the OP doesn't leave the rest of us genuinely curious without an answer! It's very arrogant to exclaim loudly you've spotted a troll as if you're some behaviour expert Hmm OP I do hope you come back and ignore the idiots.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 29/08/2019 12:20

@VLCDoingIt was she called Kathleen by any chance???

SpinneyHill · 29/08/2019 12:21

How old are the kids? It looks like the writing of a young teen older /kid, might be the start of a short story or poem?

I was terrible for that aged 9-12, started stories everywhere and on everything then forgot they existed. I denied one had anything to do with me because I genuinely believed it didn't.

Of course if you haven't got kids that age then it's just creepy

NoSauce · 29/08/2019 12:28

It's very arrogant to exclaim loudly you've spotted a troll as if you're some behaviour expert hmm

It’s not arrogant to ask a poster questions that thinks someone might have broken into their house and left a note on their sideboard before they go back to bed!

I would have been frightened to death and woke DH up in the OP shoes, I am amazed how calm she was.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 29/08/2019 12:35

Hi I'm David. What have you done with Kathleen?
