I can't be the only MNer who has been glued to the cricket today. The washing got neglected, the gardening ignored and I nearly burst needing a wee. The cat got thrown in the air, she was confused!

Now now
Don’t be throwing the cat around, no matter how well we’re doing! Grin

DappledThings · 25/08/2019 17:58

There were a couple of us on the Brimful of Ashes thread.

It was a thriller!

Davros · 25/08/2019 18:00

Still hyped! I didn't see the other thread Blush, which section is it in?

fussychica · 25/08/2019 18:04

Just fantastic. My heart was thumping like crazy. Leach was pretty awesome too.

DappledThings · 25/08/2019 18:04

In chat!

Davros · 25/08/2019 18:06

One of my favourite sections, don't know how I missed it Blush beside myself with cricket and rugby this weekend. Spurs are playing too but DH can't bear to watch as usual

olderthanilookapparently · 25/08/2019 18:18

I am on holiday my DH had spent all day saying how many more runs we needed. I mentally wrote them off at 7 wickets! We then had an early dinner (before the spurs game) madly refreshing the bbc website. Stokes us astonishing. Spurs are not playing ball though with 3 minutes to go.

Davros · 25/08/2019 18:24

I'm a lapse QPR supporter, DH is a lifelong (and before!) Spurs supporter but can't bear to watch them!
Arise Sir Ben

taybert · 25/08/2019 18:28

We’ve had to postpone our tea because DH still feels sick after watching it. Stressful!

I liked Leach building the tension by wiping the condensation off his spectacles Grin

Sillysally1998 · 25/08/2019 18:29

Ben Stokes.

Wow, just wow!!!!!

TillyTheTiger · 25/08/2019 18:30

Unbelievable afternoon of cricket - I thought nothing could equal the world cup final but apparently I was wrong!

Spoonsmum · 25/08/2019 18:39

Absolutely awesome. Was listening to it on the radio old school style which I usually find relaxing but this was the opposite. The man is ridiculous. In a good way. Gonnna watch the highlights in a bit with a glass of something to celebrate. Plus spurs losing its made my day ;)

Davros · 25/08/2019 18:41

So I won't watch the Spurs highlights then, if there are any!

FrancesFryer · 25/08/2019 18:48

Yes Spoonsmum when Aggers said "well, this is either six or out" the three second wait to find out which it was was agonising

cricketballs3 · 25/08/2019 19:05

Aggers wife Emma tweeted that she needs to check his life insurance!

Davros · 25/08/2019 19:11

And cash in!!

Amazing test. I turned off when we got to 7 out, and when I switched the TV back on, and we needed to score 8 to win, I nearly had a heart attack! Credit due to Ben Stokes and the rest of the team.

Certainly keeps the Ashes alive.

IndianaMoleWoman · 25/08/2019 19:14

If he isn’t Sports Personality of the Year I’m leaving the country*

*I may have made this threat many times before, like a petulant Z list celebrity.

ajandjjmum · 25/08/2019 19:24

It's actually fantastic how he's turned it around from the court case, where he got so much grief from the country. Makes you wonder if the fact he thought he might lose his cricket career, is what gave him the 'oomph' for the World Cup and now the Ashes.

Great lesson in how to turn a situation around. Interesting as well to hear everyone saying how he practises harder than any other cricketer they have come across.

What a fantastic example to youngsters - and what a bloody shame it's not on normal TV for everyone to enjoy.

Davros · 25/08/2019 19:32

Agreed with everything, esp Sports Personality. It reminds me of when David Beckham was the most unpopular sports person in the country when he kicked out at another player, can't remember the details. Everyone hated him and then he became everyone's favourite (mine anyway!)

OP posts:
BackforGood · 25/08/2019 19:34

It was superb.
I was out, watching a T20 game, but the stadium 1/2 emptied at the break and everyone then stayed in the bar area watching the TVs or watched it on their phones rather than what was in front of us Grin

RockNRollNerd · 25/08/2019 19:41

We had three devices all streaming TMS and slightly out of synch with each other. I had to shut the door to the room I was in as DH’s stream was fractionally faster and the gasps and cheers were tipping me over the edge. I don’t think I breathed at all in the final over!

RockNRollNerd · 25/08/2019 19:42

Leach was also astonishing in the face of that much pressure. I think there was more pressure on him than Stokes tbh. His innings is certainly a strong contender for greatest single in the history of the game!

Quaffy · 25/08/2019 19:48

Insane! And absolutely heroic from Jack Leach too.

MsLumley · 25/08/2019 20:03

Absolutely amazing! Mrs Stokes must be one very proud lady!
