I can't be the only MNer who has been glued to the cricket today. The washing got neglected, the gardening ignored and I nearly burst needing a wee. The cat got thrown in the air, she was confused!

I agree @RockNRollNerd
I was saying the same to the person I was watching with Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/08/2019 20:49

Amazing!

I just loved Jack Leach cleaning his glasses before every over - so very English!

What a match! Let's hope we manage to sort out a decent pair of openers before Old Trafford as I don't think my heart will take another match like that!

DappledThings · 25/08/2019 20:57

The greatest 1 not out of all time!

The other thread started by talking about Tailenders. If any of you don't know it already you have to give it a go. You won't regret it!

We had to switch off and leave the room after Jonny Bairstow was out. And then we couldn't turn the TV on again in case we cursed it. Followed the rest on text update - then charged through as soon as Stokes hit that last ball!

Laniakea · 25/08/2019 21:00

Got a holy fucking shit it was amazing! After 67 all out ... just unbelievable!

Sandsnake · 25/08/2019 21:01

Unbelievable. So proud and overwhelmed that I even had a little tear!

I’m pregnant and we’re now sorted for names. Benjamin for a boy, and for a girl - Benjamin.

howwudufeel · 25/08/2019 21:02

Unbelievable. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest.

Jsmith99 · 25/08/2019 21:09

I’m a bit of a cricket geek, and that was definitely the best innings I have ever seen from an England player over almost 40 years. The game, and the Ashes, were gone when Buttler was run out. We still needed 76 when Leach came out. Australia needed one good ball to retain the Ashes.

Ben isn’t like Jimmy Anderson or Alastair Cook; his career will never be defined by his stats, but by match winning performances that nobody who witnessed them will ever forget.

BackforGood · 25/08/2019 21:40

@Sandsnake Grin

Davros · 25/08/2019 21:49

sandsnske proper made me larf. We definitely need to do something about the openers and what is Buttler for now he isn't Keeper?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/08/2019 21:55

Love Buttler hope he’s given more chances

KingscoteStaff · 25/08/2019 21:56

Role models for Gingers and Speccy Four Eyes everywhere.

FrancesFryer · 25/08/2019 21:56

I just loved Jack Leach cleaning his glasses before every over

Ben Stokes tweeted that if Jack Leach isn't the face of Specsavers someone in marketing needs to lose their job

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/08/2019 21:56

But in the spirit of the thread....

Omg Stokes! Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

And Leach! Wow.

taybert · 25/08/2019 22:06

Stokes, amazing, obviously. But the man of the match prize is sponsored by specsavers. Massive missed opportunity!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 25/08/2019 22:08

Sports personality of the year? A man who mocks disabled children, makes fun of gay people and brawls in the street? Really? He’s hardly a role model.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 25/08/2019 22:15

Stokes also tweeted that Specsavers should give Leach free glasses for life Grin

I've never seen anything like Stokes' stand and that reverse sweep OMFG.

I like to think he's lived and learnt and turned himself around. His performance is certainly something else.

MrsGrindah · 25/08/2019 22:17

I don’t like or understand cricket but I was so proud that this happened in Leeds my home town that I watched it...little knowing that it was going to turn out to be such an epic match. The atmosphere at Headingley must have been incredible.

FrancesFryer · 25/08/2019 22:38

Stokes also tweeted that Specsavers should give Leach free glasses for life

And so they shouldGrin

kiltedsheep · 25/08/2019 22:54

Hear hear. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life, and I like to think I won't always be defined by them.

I'm a total convert to cricket now.
As Alex Ferguson never said: Cricket. Bloody hell.

whotheeff · 25/08/2019 22:57

We were there! It was bloody amazing! I'm still on a high!

FrancesFryer · 25/08/2019 23:15

The question then is, did you take your shoe off? Grin

StCharlotte · 25/08/2019 23:20

Specsavers have confirmed they are indeed going to supply Leach with glasses for life Smile

whotheeff How amazing for you! We were at the game in Antigua when Brian Lara regained his record with 400 - we were on a high for weeks (even though we were supporting England)! Enjoy your "we were there" time!

DoctorTwo · 25/08/2019 23:21

I started watching the highlights and when Joe Root was out early doors I thought, nah, we're done. When jack Leach came out to bat I thought we might have a chance, given his performance as night watchman in the 1st test. His 1 not out might be the most important in Ashes history.

I remember Headingley '81, where Bob Willis terrorised the Aussies in the 2nd innings. Headingley, what a magical venue.

ChopinIn10Minuets · 25/08/2019 23:29

Indeed, DoctorTwo. Botham, Headingley 1981; the first time I ever realised that cricket could be exciting to watch. Stokes, Headingley 2019; reminding us that cricket can still be exciting and unpredictable.
