Can I show off and be shameless here? I can't in real life

I have had a very tough time recently, dh has had a nervous breakdown, my dad who has always been abusive hit a new low and we're NC. My mum emigrated and it's just been so hard.
But ds got 11 level 9s and and A** in further maths yesterday and I am so so proud. He is severely dyspraxic and had oral dyspeptia which went undiagnosed until he was 4 which severely affected his speech. I was told he had SEN and he was put in a special group, I knew he was frustrated and moved his school then home schooled. He went to the local comp for secondary, it was on special
Measures, he was bullied but here we are.
I am so proud of my boy. I could burst.
As a working class northerner I will be ostracised for rl showing off, so can I be shameless here?
Sorry to anyone I annoy, I just need an outlet! Mn has helped me so much over the years with ds, dh and just life. Thank you all so much SmileSmileSmile

Well done both of you, that is really amazing. Boast away, your DC has obviously worked hard to overcome some solid difficulties. As for Northern curmudgeonliness, it’s a very poor attitude but not confined to the north.

One of my DC passed her eleven plus so spectacularly that she was offered any one of nine grammars schools in the county she wanted to attend. Throughout her whole school career she never got less than the top grades. The reaction was awful. In the end we had to hide her light under a bushel as the jealousy and backbiting turned into outright bullying - and not just from other children either.

Amazing, OP. So happy for you & your brainiac son Wine

That's brilliant 😍

0lga · 24/08/2019 06:49

Well, done to him, fantastic result.

Yes you are right he has to follow his own dream, not yours. Oxford is great for the right student, it’s cheaper than many other unis and no, he won’t be posh - he will just be himself. Contrary to what you might think from reading MN, it’s not all posh kids from Eton, there are students from all over the world.

If his school is in special measures he might be able to get some support with his application from the Sutton Trust ,also they run great summer schools.
