Came home yesterday after a two night stay. What a lovely city full of lovely people. DH and I were there for a gig but ended up seeing pride, staying in an amazing hotel and having a blast. What a contrast to the London theatre trip we did a few weeks ago with DD where tramps were pissing in the streets and there was a general air of unease (go to London frequently and usually love it I must say)

I will definitely be going back.

So glad you enjoyed yourself. Thanks for coming.

Almostfifty · 19/08/2019 18:37

I live north of Glasgow and was in the city on Saturday. The atmosphere was buzzing with Pride going on.

It's a lovely city and the people are fabulous. I'm English and have never encountered any discrimination in the 20+ years I've lived in Scotland.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 19/08/2019 18:37

I was also up in Glasgow (from London) this weekend for a gig (Summer Sessions by any chance?)

I couldn't agree more, OP. I love love love Glasgow and can't wait to go back...permanently. DP and I are planning to move there once ds goes to university.

It does have more than its fair share of problems of course - the fab bars and hotels etc aren't the whole story by any means! - but it's a brilliant place.

ParkheadParadise · 19/08/2019 18:40

Glad you enjoyed your visit.

We flew up and got the bus from the airport to the city. The Cure were in our hotel and I met Robert Smith 😀. We went to the VIP bit at the big Cineworld and strolled the streets, had cocktails, did some shopping.

I was expecting to just crash in the hotel and go to the gig but the city was so much fun. The atmosphere at the gig was friendly (which isn't always the case believe me).

MaudBaileysGreenTurban ....yes! Summer Session on Saturday. They were great weren't they. Very chilled and loose 😀

Noooo! Insanely jealous Grin It was a great gig (knackered my boots in the mud though)

emsmum79 · 19/08/2019 19:57

It's an amazing city. The surrounding countryside is wonderful too.

Skade · 19/08/2019 19:59

I stayed in Glasgow last year when I went up to scatter my Glaswegian dad's ashes, hadn't been there since I was a little girl. I absolutely loved it, was really vibrant and each and every person we met was friendly and polite. You don't get the same reception in Poole where I live!

Celebelly · 19/08/2019 20:02

Ahh, as a Glaswegian this warms my heart Grin It's a fantastic city.

ScottishMummy12 · 19/08/2019 20:05

I love Glasgow. I stay not far from it and it's honestly my favourite Scottish city.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2019 20:20

I adore Glasgow! I worked there for a year and would move there in a flash if it were feasible.

We're up next weekend for a night, then again at Christmas (dual location trip to there and Aviemore).

AllTheCakes · 19/08/2019 20:23

I grew up in Glasgow but moved away in my early twenties. I love going back now to visit, there is so much to see and do, fab bars and restaurants but what really makes it is the people! Friendliest in the world.

roughtyping · 19/08/2019 20:28

I love this 🥰 was also at the Cure - what a mud bath! Which hotel did you stay it? I love my city 😍

LucilleBluth · 19/08/2019 20:36

roughtyping, next time The Cure are in town hang make sure to hang around around outside the Blythswood Square hotel 😉

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 19/08/2019 20:47

Oh, no way! We were even going to pop into Blythswood on Saturday but didn't get around to it Grin

roughtyping the mud, and the queue for the bloody bar!

roughtyping · 19/08/2019 20:50

I wasn't drinking but we went into the queue at about 845 and it went really quickly! Think we must have got lucky. I also got some cookie dough 😋 don't think any gig will quite live up to that!

We saw the Cure last year in London during the heat wave so a bit different! I loved having them in Glasgow though.

Will need to be hanging about the Blythswood more often!

BearFoxBear · 19/08/2019 20:59

We only live an hour away and still go to Glasgow for the weekend, get a couple of nights in a hotel, and have a lovely time :) Both DH and I lived there in our 20s, great city!

Teakind · 19/08/2019 21:47

Another big fan of Glasgow here! The people are lovely and they’ve got some amazing restaurants.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/08/2019 21:56

I love 40 minutes out but Dd has just moved in and I want to follow asap, I love Glasgow.
We were out for a meal there last night and it has a vibe like nowhere else.
I'm not from Scotland but I've been here 18 years and would never live anywhere else.
Dd went to school in the West end and still loves hanging out there.

roughtyping · 19/08/2019 22:02

@IHaveBrilloHair hello 👋 I think I know you!

LucilleBluth · 19/08/2019 22:02

I didn't know what to expect really. So many cities have been made homogeneous, they all have the same shit and city people can be rude but I was totally charmed by the people and the city.

I didn't feel ant anti English sentiment but I'm Mancunian ( don't live in Manchester..but.you never loose that accent) so not a poncy southerner 😀...like my DCs.

OP posts:
Dieu · 19/08/2019 22:02

I live in Edinburgh, and my Glaswegian father will frequently tell me how much friendlier Glasgow is. I swear he gets a kick out of it Grin Only an hour apart, yet both cities couldn't be any more different.

peppersneezes000 · 19/08/2019 22:05

So strange, I had just come on chat to ask advice re a day in Glasgow with my 5 & 6 year old & this thread was here! We have one day & would love some advice on child friendly must sees & nice child friendly restaurants, thanks

sweetkitty · 19/08/2019 22:05

We live 20 minutes away and love it too only thing I would change is the weather.
