I'm poorly and had to cancel our holiday. Where can 70yo nana bring disappointed DS7 on this rainy day?

Poor DS7. I've got bad chickenpox and had to cancel going camping this week (dp and dss have gone on ahead and we will follow on when I'm well enough, which might not happen)

All his friends are away but he's happy to have nana to look after him. But apart from the cinema, the science / natural history museums, what can they do today in London that's relatively cheap and indoors? I need inspiration. Please help x

HMS Belfast? Dunno how much it is.

SeroxatBlonde · 18/08/2019 10:28

If you still have CP you should stay at home.

youarenotkiddingme · 18/08/2019 10:30

Seria she is staying at home. It says his nana is taking him.

I don't know London well but does he like the underground? At that age my ds was happy to just get on and off trains and have lunch somewhere.

He can always do some of the free museums at different destinations.

SuperFurryDoggy · 18/08/2019 10:32

I presume Nana is talking her DS out so she can stay in the house @SeroxatBlonde

HMS Belfast is amazing, but it’s not the easiest vessel to move around.

The Postal Museum is on my list of places to go, there is an underground glass-top railway that you can go on. However you may need to book in advance for this.

Mediumred · 18/08/2019 10:32

Whereabouts in London are you? Waltham Forest Live Better centre in Walthamstow has a great clip and climb wall (nana could just watch!).

PhonicTheHedgehog · 18/08/2019 10:34

Museum of Childhood in Bethnal
Green. Don’t eat there though as it’s so expensive. Take a pack lunch or eat at the greasy spoon opposite, I think it’s called Hulya’s?

PhonicTheHedgehog · 18/08/2019 10:36

Oh, and don’t bother with the British Museum. The back check means there is often a queue all round the block.

I'm in North London but nana happy to travel to Central

Going to check hms Belfast, that's something that might spark his interest

Whereabouts in London are you? The rain is absolutely awful today so I’d suggest somewhere like Flip Out or Clip n Climb. Much easier for Nana to sit with a coffee as well!

Catoninetails · 18/08/2019 10:38

Horniman museum!

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 10:39

Ds not good at going off to play on his own really so this would have to be an activity that could involve nana (who is very young for her age but wouldn't be able for clip n climb!!)

Ah right, I get it now, sorry.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 18/08/2019 10:43

I would agree with you @Catoninetails , used to take my DCs there often but OP is in North London .

AwkwardPaws27 · 18/08/2019 10:44

Museum of London - Beasts of London exhibition, it's about the history of London but told by animals.

SirJamesTalbot · 18/08/2019 10:57

National Maritime Museum at Greenwich? Museum of Docklands, West India Quay.

WrongKindOfFace · 18/08/2019 10:58

I also like the treasure trails. But not in the rain.

Adults don’t have to climb at clip and climb type places, they can just watch from either the cafe or the arena.

Has he been to the wonder lab at the science museum? It’s about £8 but we spent hours in there. Lots of shows to watch as well that involve things going bang.

SirJamesTalbot · 18/08/2019 10:58

Tower Bridge exhibition?

WrongKindOfFace · 18/08/2019 11:01

List of cheap or free activities here, but many are better suited to good weather. www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/united-kingdom/england/london/articles/best-family-days-out-in-london-for-under-5-pounds/

Checking out all suggestions thank you! Just asked ds what he'd do if he could do anything, and he said he just wants to play Minecraft all day 🙄🤔🤣 let's see once he's climbing the walls!!

The museums in South Kensington are a no no because he's been so often (nana lives in the area) and as I said he's not great at going off on his own so we're looking for something nana can get involved with. Thanks all

Why didn’t ds go camping?

StickyProblem · 18/08/2019 11:08

Manga exhibition at the British Museum?

regularbutpanickingabit · 18/08/2019 11:10

Whereabouts in North London and what are your nearest stations? Will try and come up with something close to home or a quick dash between raindrops!

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 11:14

I hadn't seen ds in a week and he wanted to stay with me as he missed me. I thought I would have cleared up by today and we would have gone to join them. But it's still itchy and angry and I'm still unwell. I'm hoping tomorrow or Tuesday we can go.

I'm in Southgate. X

They could see a show with a last minute kids week ticket.
