I'm poorly and had to cancel our holiday. Where can 70yo nana bring disappointed DS7 on this rainy day?

Poor DS7. I've got bad chickenpox and had to cancel going camping this week (dp and dss have gone on ahead and we will follow on when I'm well enough, which might not happen)

All his friends are away but he's happy to have nana to look after him. But apart from the cinema, the science / natural history museums, what can they do today in London that's relatively cheap and indoors? I need inspiration. Please help x

X-posted. Glad you're being seen

ineedaholidaynow · 18/08/2019 18:00

Are they coming to you or you going to them (and if so how?)

Apolloanddaphne · 18/08/2019 18:07

I was just coming to say that it does not look like CP but i see things have moved on. Hope things are okay.

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 18:16

I actually don't know how I'm going to get there.

I told the woman it'd have to be a cab and I was worried about being infectious. She said I needed to go regardless and that it likely wasn't CP so not contagious. I hung up before I could question it.

Not sure what to do now

And to make things worse... I can't find my wallet or any money. FFS

Just got the the end of the thread. I’m so glad you’re going to the dr - that isn’t chickenpox, it looks like measles. It’s horrifically contagious if it is, please don’t go on the Tube.

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 18:20

How am I supposed to get there? I can't take a cab either if I'm contagious?

OP posts:
batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 18:22

It's a 12 min cab journey or 1.15 walking it said on google maps!!!

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 18/08/2019 18:22

Can you phone back and ask what the position is if it is measles? Can you speak to a doctor?

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 18:24

I don't think it's measles as I don't have a runny nose or cough?

OP posts:
batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 18:24

Mums confirmed... I had measles when I was little. So that rules it out

Just go in a cab you can’t walk if you feel that ill , surely cab drivers are driving contagious people all the time without knowing it .

Northernlurker · 18/08/2019 18:31

Cab that takes cards? You need to be seen. That's your priority.

Apolloanddaphne · 18/08/2019 18:33

Just get a cab. Sit in the back and don't breath all over the driver. I am sure they transport people with all sort of ailments all the time.

Apolloanddaphne · 18/08/2019 18:33

Uber if you are registered.

MrsMozartMkII · 18/08/2019 18:41

I hope you get there okay lass and that it's sorted very quickly.

FenellaMaxwell · 18/08/2019 18:42

Cab. Windows open, don’t touch anything you can avoid and antibacterial wipes and gel if you have them. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before you leave then try not to touch the rash or your face.

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 18:57

Was in such a faff, couldn't install uber to my phone, couldn't find my wallet, no cash in the house.

So covered myself head to toe, wrapped most of my face in a scarf, and did the "get cash" thing at natwest (thank god for that service) and hailed a black cab. Felt okay because there's a screen between us!!

Managed to install uber so it'll cost less than half a black cab (cost me 20 to get here in black cab but uber will be 7)

Just sat in the waiting room now. Feeling like shit and trying not to itch. Thanks for talking me through this

CottonSock · 18/08/2019 18:58

You have done the right thing to go back. Hope it's a short wait

AnotherEmma · 18/08/2019 19:05

Hope you don't have to wait too long to be seen. I'm not a HCP but I was also thinking that it doesn't look like chicken pox.

Meanwhile I thought Uber was the obvious solution to not having any cash, and I was marvelling at how a Londoner could not already have it - then had to remind myself that I am massively missing the point! Glad you've downloaded it now anyway.

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 19:25

The nurse was very dismissive, said not much she could do as its not my usual GP. She said it looked like an allergic reaction. Not chicken pox by the looks of it. But she can't tell. She wasn't able to do proper tests as they aren't my GP. She gave me stronger antihistamines and sent me on my way.

Oh and I always have uber on my phone...but I uninstalled it so my ds could put a game on my phone instead (it was a loooong journey)

Sods law. Anyway all sorted now. I'm on my way home in an uber. Would it be bad if I necked a bottle of wine tonight? She told me to come off the meds as they clearly aren't working and it's not even CP

Oh you poor thing. Did the rash change into this after you started taking the acyclovir? Do you have a fever?

Agree it definitely doesnt look like chicken pox.

meow1989 · 18/08/2019 19:36

I think strong antihistamines and wine are a no go, sorry, sounds like you could use a drink!

batteriesincluded · 18/08/2019 19:41

Started taking aciclovir Wednesday when the rash was very small just on my arms. Since then it's just exploded

I wonder if I can exchange the antihistamines for wine and just pass out instead 😜🍷

Maybe your allergic to it then, hopefully it'll calm now you're stopping it!
