Who are your favorite lady comedians?

I'll start off with Lucille Ball.

OP posts:
RezCowgirl · 18/08/2019 07:51

Sara Pascoe

BareBelliedSneetch · 18/08/2019 07:52

I loved Linda Smith so much. She was wonderful Sad

ElizabethMainwaring · 18/08/2019 07:53

So by that reckoning OP you'd class the following as 'gentleman comedians' seeing as they have acted in comic roles :
Ian McKellen, Richard Briers, David Jason, Nigel Hawthorn, Bill Nighy, Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Will Smith etc etc etc.
No. They aren't 'gentleman comedians'; they are actors.

Susan Calman. I absolutely love her.

BertrandRussell · 18/08/2019 07:59

How about you tell us your favourite gentleman comedian first?

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/08/2019 08:05

Victoria Wood is still my favourite. However, I love Sarah Millican and Susan Calman and I always enjoy Aisling Bea, Rosin Conaty, Katherine Ryan and Izy Suttie. There are loads now I think about, as long as it's not Sara Pasco I'm usually happy. Thanks for the reminder about Linda Smith, when something pops up on Radio 4 Extra with her in it I have a good laugh and a little cry, she was wonderful.

funmummy48 · 18/08/2019 08:09

Francesca Martinez (the wobbly comedian) is one of my favourites.

GeriAtric · 18/08/2019 08:10

Also not loving the description 'lady comedians' however, one of my favourite comedians at the moment is Rachel Parris.

Bloodycats · 18/08/2019 08:11

Not keen on the ‘lady comedians’ bit but Jayde Adams is very funny, her newest show is brilliant.
I love Kiri Pritchard McLean and Rachel Fairburn on their AKNF podcast too. Kiris victim complex show had me laughing and crying.

SoyDora · 18/08/2019 08:11

My favourite comedians are Aisling Bea and Katherine Ryan. They happen to be female.

EleanorReally · 18/08/2019 08:12

Love Katherine Ryan

BenWillbondsPants · 18/08/2019 08:51

Susan Calman. I absolutely love her.

I forgot about Susan, I love her. She's funny and an absolutely lovely person.

HollysTeflonSeptum · 18/08/2019 08:52

I think lay off the OP’s wording.

She may be, judging by the posts, more my ex-MIL’s generation where there was nothing wrong with saying lady comedian or at least no intended slight.

Clawdy · 18/08/2019 08:52

Victoria Wood. French and Saunders ,especially their early days. I thought I would like Sarah Millican after reading an interview, but find her act totally unfunny.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/08/2019 08:55

Victoria Wood.

Katherine Ryan is throwing women under the bus by prioritising men's needs in the trans 'debate'.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 18/08/2019 08:55

Aditi Mittal
Hannah Gadsby
Isy Suttle
Lolly Adefope
Adele Cliff
Janey Godley
Ashley Storrie

HollysTeflonSeptum · 18/08/2019 08:56

Jennifer Saunders is fantastic.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 18/08/2019 08:57

Shappi Khorsandi, Sarah Millican and Victoria Wood

Teacakeandalatte · 18/08/2019 08:59

I like Miranda Hart and I think her poshness warrants the name Lady comedian too. Such Fun!

BareBelliedSneetch · 18/08/2019 10:14

I’m not if I’ve changed, or if the comedy landscape is finally swinging towards women more, but on programmes like Taskmaster I genuinely find the women far funnier than most of the men.

Mollyboboff · 18/08/2019 10:19

I liked Sarah Millican and then I saw her live

BertrandRussell · 18/08/2019 10:22

“She may be, judging by the posts, more my ex-MIL’s generation where there was nothing wrong with saying lady comedian or at least no intended slight.”

So she is incapable of learning?

AntennaReborn · 18/08/2019 10:22

@Mollyboboff I saw her live too and loved her show!

NurseButtercup · 18/08/2019 10:32

Gina Yashere
Judi Love
Tiffany Haddish
Ali Wong
Ellen

flapjackfairy · 18/08/2019 10:37

I am exhausted by a world where every word spoken or written has to be analysed, categorised , deconstructed and invariably criticised.
Lady comedian v female comedians . Who cares which phrase is used ! Why do people have to get offended over every little thing ?
