Just that really, though it would be interesting to see.

I was chatting to a friend of mine in the USA and her dc start school at 8.30 and finish and finish at 3.30 and they have an hour lunch.

I’m in Ireland and my dc start primary school at 8.40, finish at 2.20 they have a half hour for lunch
The school I work in starts at 9.00 and finishes at 2.40 (half hour lunch break)

What are your dc’s hours and what country are you based in?

New times from September: gates open 8.40, have to be in by 8.50, finish at 3.25 for infants and 3.30 for juniors except on Fridays when they all finish at 2.15 because the school can't afford to teach for the whole week

Mammyloveswine · 16/08/2019 19:20

8.20 start. Too early. She has to leave home at 7.15 for two buses journey. Grim in winter. Finishes at 2 on Fridays so needs childcare.

Lolly86 · 16/08/2019 19:56

Start at 845 finish at 3.15 with I think 45.minute lunch

DeathMetalMum · 16/08/2019 19:58

dairymilkmonster · 16/08/2019 20:14

ds1 (ks1) 8.30-3.30
ds2 (ks2) 8.10-4.00
Private schools in oxfordshire

Local state primaries are typically 8.50ish to end somewhere 2.45-3.15.

@Youmadorwhat

I think it would actually make a difference. There have been scientific studies that support it.

Mon 720-1710
Tues 810-1620
We'd 720-1235
Thurs 720-1710
Fri 720 - 1140

SparkyBlue · 16/08/2019 20:28

My daughter starts at 8.30 and this year will finish at 2.10. For the past two years it was 1:10. I am in Ireland.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/08/2019 21:36

@MattMagnolia my dd leaves at 7 I see that as normal not particularly early.
Why does she need childcare?

underneaththeash · 16/08/2019 21:39

DS1(Year 8 - State Grammar) 8.45-3.45
Ds2 (Private prep - Year 6) 8.25-4.05
DD (Private prep - year 3) 8.25-4pm.

I much prefer the longer day and shorter holiday model.

doyoureallylikeit · 16/08/2019 21:45

8.50-3pm. No idea how long for lunch (bad parent!). Yorkshire

TowerRingInferno · 16/08/2019 22:09

8:30 - 4 private secondary

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 17/08/2019 11:22

08.20 - 17.00, then compulsory prep 17.00 - 18.00, then clubs/activities until 18.30 (each pupil must do at least 3 per week).
Saturday 08.20 - 12.00, then compulsory games until 15.30.
Morning break is 20 mins (with tea and toast served) and lunch is an hour (but there are lunchtime clubs and some voluntary sports during this time too).
Private secondary with a mix of boarding and day pupils. Days pupils can opt in for breakfast and dinner too.
Long holidays though - this Summer hols is 9 weeks, Christmas is 3 weeks, Easter is 4 weeks, two half term hols are 1 week each and the Michaelmas half term is 2 weeks. Every 3rd weekend is an exeat so no Saturday school.

LatteLove · 17/08/2019 11:56

Jeez that sounds totally miserable @SirSidneyRuffDiamond. I hope your kids enjoy it, it sounds awful from where I’m standing. Pretty much 6 full days a week in school?!

Summerfalls · 17/08/2019 12:04

Primary school London starts at 8.45am although the bell doesn’t go until 9am and finishes 3.25pm

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 17/08/2019 18:11

They enjoy having the 20 weeks holiday per year (with no holiday prep). I forgot to mention that three times a term there is a whole school Sunday commitment too! And parents are encouraged to attend that too. It's quite an old school with lots of quirky traditions and a lot of involvement with parents. It suits a certain type of character (which my DC possess), but others would hate it. Until quite recently it only took full boarders so the school routine is based around keeping those pupils well-occupied. A routine which is evolving with the acceptance of day pupils - some of whom travel for over an hour each way on school buses.

LatteLove · 17/08/2019 18:36

I suppose that makes sense if the school is more grounded in the boarding tradition. 20 weeks off is good too!

MrsJBaptiste · 17/08/2019 18:58

8.20 - 3.35 (DS1)
8.20 - 2.35 (DS2)

Both at the same High School.
