How many coats do you DC have?

My DC (2, 4, 11) are very outdoorsy and want to play outdoors in all weathers. The smaller ones will play in the garden (mud kitchen and partly covered climbing frame) in the rain and yesterday we went to a park and they were running around happily in rain/mud. Nursery let them play out in wet weather too as they have a canopy.

They always have a couple of winter coats each to allow for washing and usually a thinall in one for the garden to layer up underneath and a thin raincoat/mac.

I mentioned to DH earlier than I needed to get the 4yo a new raincoat as he only has thick coats and a puddle suit and he said that most kids only have one coat anyway?

Which made me wonder if that is true and if so how do they manage all the washing if they have mud magnets like mine.

1 each. And a folding cagoule thing.

Merrysnow · 15/08/2019 22:20

My DC each have a thin rain coat (one of those ones you can fold up into a bag), a big puffer coat, a smart coat and a coat with a detachable fleece that we got from Mountain Warehouse.
I don’t think most kids have just one coat

mundaneflounder · 15/08/2019 22:22

Mine have 2/3

Eldest has a big winter coat, a raincoat and a school coat.

Youngest has a big winter coat, raincoat, nursery coat and a puddle suit.

1 coat each. They do have hoodies too.

Pipandmum · 15/08/2019 22:23

My kids had one winter jacket/coat. Several hoodies. My daughter has a couple showerproof jackets.
Can’t only get my kids to wear winter coats if it’s snowing!

terriblyangryattimes · 15/08/2019 22:25

Three. A waterproof lighter coat, a winter one and a jacket that's not super padded. I tend to buy the waterproofs a size up each time so they last longer. Keep an eye out on ebay for bundles of coats in the same size 👌

snackarella · 15/08/2019 22:25

Mine have one main coat from
Jojo which has separate fleece coat inside and then a puddle suit

RhinestoneCowgirl · 15/08/2019 22:27

Mine have a winter coat and a rain coat each.

Witchend · 15/08/2019 22:30

Only time mine had more than 1 winter coat was if someone gave us one for them to grow into. I don't know anyone whose DC usually had two.

Bloodybanana · 15/08/2019 22:30

My youngest two (7 and 2) both have a winter coat and a thin waterproof jacket/coat. My oldest (13) has a winter coat that she's never been seen in and a few different waterproof jackets that she's more willing to wear

Youngandfree · 15/08/2019 22:32

2 each. They are 6 and 4.

LittleAndOften · 15/08/2019 22:34

2 coats - winter and a raincoat. He's 3 and outgrows things so quickly he barely has time to wear in the ones he's got!

Hadenoughofitall441 · 15/08/2019 22:36

Mine have 1 of each and a body warmer. They are very warm kids so in the summer the last thing I wanna do is pop a winter jacket on just for a shower. DS has asd and hates them but reluctantly puts them on after negotiating. He will happily wear his body warmer no issues.

TuckMyWin · 15/08/2019 22:36

We have a ludicrous amount of coats and over clothes. At last count they had two winter coats each, a summer coat, a puddle suit and waterproof trousers. I'm not sure I bought them all, they seem to be breeding in the porch BlushI think it's due to my disorganisation when it comes to bringing stuff home from nursery, so we've ended up with two of everything so I don't have to!

TuckMyWin · 15/08/2019 22:37

Oh, and body warmers. I think they were gifts, I don't entirely see the point so wouldn't buy them myself!

Oly4 · 15/08/2019 22:42

2 winter ones (1 is usually in the wash) plus a light raincoat each

RainOrSun · 15/08/2019 22:43

2 each. A thick winter, waterproof one, and thin summer waterproof one.

But then I only have 3 coats- thick waterproof, thin waterproof and a smart wool one.

Dirty coats get dried on a radiator, and the mud brushed off them.

clapperboard · 15/08/2019 22:44

So general consensus is at least two if you include a mac and often more.

@TuckMyWin I'm never sure about body warmers either. DH loves them and wears them though.

Technically two, but one heavy for winter and a light one for better weather. Both bought a size up so that at any stage they technically have two coats. If it’s cold enough to wear a heavy coat, there’s probably a radiator on so I can wash and dry in an evening.

PhantomErik · 15/08/2019 23:21

Mine have 3-4 each at any one time.

They usually have a thick autumn/winter coat, a lightly padded jacket & a thin raincoat. All with hoods!

I also usually have a few slightly scruffy/worn but warm/waterproof coats kept (might be last years or a charity shop find) in the garage in case someone gets soaked through or covered in mud etc & I don't have time to wash/dry it before it's needed again.

They have waterproof trousers rather than all in ones as they're 10,9 & 7 now.

WatchingFromTheWings · 15/08/2019 23:25

One big winter coat, one summer coat and a rain coat.

changeitis · 15/08/2019 23:25

This is Britain where the weather dictates Hmm
I tend to buy
Body warmers - up size so they last two or three years. Add to whatever jumper currently fits in autumn and spring and over T-shirt's when it's warmer.

Cagoule. I can afford the triple season waterproof and windproof breathable version (£30 trespass).
That does for the majority of the year and lasts two years. But this is a bouncy boy who isn't still enough to get cold. My DD has a padded Parker version of this but still wears it 3 seasons cause she's a slow lazy bones.

I buy super thick and warm coats on eBay incase of a terrible winter or to see us through the 3-4 weeks of horror.

SE England so frankly I hope those in Scotland are doing something totally different

42andcounting · 15/08/2019 23:25

Off the top of my head, seven at the moment.....
A fleece lined all purpose waterproof
A pac a Mac
A thin waterproof
2 x padded warm non waterproof
A logo school coat
A puddle suit

In fairness some were bought by family members, and some were charity shop bargains, so it's maybe not quite as excessive as it seems. And yes, they're always in the wash, I have a mud monster too Grin

.... Oh, plus we have two more in the next size up put away for next year, bought in the sales.

It all gets looked after and passed along when outgrown, so although we have a lot of stuff, it does all get well used!

Superstar101 · 15/08/2019 23:28

At one point my daughter probably had 30 coats.

Her teacher used to comment how she’s never seen a child with so many coats.

She now probably has 20. I just have a thing for them.

RainbowMum11 · 15/08/2019 23:32

Winter/thick coat and 2 waterproofs - one really thin & the other lines so a bit warmer.
