How many coats do you DC have?

My DC (2, 4, 11) are very outdoorsy and want to play outdoors in all weathers. The smaller ones will play in the garden (mud kitchen and partly covered climbing frame) in the rain and yesterday we went to a park and they were running around happily in rain/mud. Nursery let them play out in wet weather too as they have a canopy.

They always have a couple of winter coats each to allow for washing and usually a thinall in one for the garden to layer up underneath and a thin raincoat/mac.

I mentioned to DH earlier than I needed to get the 4yo a new raincoat as he only has thick coats and a puddle suit and he said that most kids only have one coat anyway?

Which made me wonder if that is true and if so how do they manage all the washing if they have mud magnets like mine.

6

1 thick winter school coat
1 thinner school coat
1 thick 'weekend' coat

1 thin raincoat
1 thick winter coat
1 puddle suit
1 ski suit for the 2 days of snow we get each year Grin

A winter coat and a thinner raincoat each. One has a couple of hoodies too. We're not particularly outdoorsy though.

5, usually.

A light waterproof
A padded winter coat
A gilet
A light jacket (not waterproof) - often denim.
A smart coat.

NavyBlueHue · 16/08/2019 09:13

DD is 13. She has:

1 x big coat.
2 x rain coats.
1 x bomber jacket.
A billion hoodies.

When she was little she always had at least 2 coats due to the fact one was usually covered in mud and being washed. Used to buy the cheap ones from George. They washed great.

mildshock · 16/08/2019 09:15

Oldest has 1 thin waterproof and 2 thick winter coats, only because the first was taken home by a friend from school for a week and we had to buy another.

Youngest has 2 waterproof puddlesuits, 1 thin and 1 thick, and 1 thick winter coat.

Stormwhale · 16/08/2019 09:17

Dd has 3 coats, one is for school, one is a smarter one, one is a waterproof one with a fleece lining so is warmer (this is more her every day one), then she has a pack a mac. She also has a body warmer for spring/autumn.

Stormwhale · 16/08/2019 09:18

Oh and she has a waterproof all in one for playing in the park on wet days.

megletthesecond · 16/08/2019 09:18

2 x winter coats each.
1 x cagoule each.

They're 12 and 10 now, they had more coats when they were small. It meant I could leave wet items drying and they had a dry coat to put on to go out.

Pengweng · 16/08/2019 09:22

One pac a mac for emergencies
One waterproof but thin coat.
One warm waterproof coat
One jacket (no hood)
Lots of hoodies and fleeces.

Kewlwifee · 16/08/2019 09:27

They always have at least:
a school one
One for "church" (we don't really go, it's a smart winter coat)
A casual flexible one for weekends and stuff

Once they have those 3, I buy them ones. These are usually casual but might be a colour that doesn't go with everything.

Starrynights86 · 16/08/2019 09:30

Mine has one for nursery and one for at home.

namechangedforthis1980 · 16/08/2019 09:41

2 - a Superdry winter coat and a thin sports mac thing. When they were little they'd have more - body warmer, one of those 3 in 1 jackets etc. Now I'm amazed to see anything come out of the cupboard Confused

namechangedforthis1980 · 16/08/2019 09:41

Oh and a million hoodies

whattodowith · 16/08/2019 10:00

Duffle coat, thick raincoat, thin raincoat, denim jacket.

SconeofDestiny · 16/08/2019 14:06

One thicker winter coat and one thin showerproof jacket for the rest of the year.

TeacupDrama · 16/08/2019 14:14

very young children yes as they grow out of them in 3 months but older children may have more
DD is 9 she has a hooded padded black coat with hood for school from last year it still fits
she has a showerproof bomber jacket for summer it was a present
from last winter she has a quilted jacket with faux fur collar in purple she wears this when not wearing school coat it still fits
I would think a warm winter coat and a thin waterproof /showerproof coat/jacket/ kagoul for summer was normal
I won't count a fleece or a hoodie as a coat but in same category as a sweatshirt /jumper

spiderlight · 16/08/2019 14:18

Mine has hundreds! A proper thick winter coat, a fleece-lined waterproof, a packable waterproof, a spare cheapo packable waterproof for the car, two softshell hoodies just because he likes them, umpteen normal hoodies and a denim jacket. He's 12.

SoyDora · 16/08/2019 14:19

Too many, probably. Both have a raincoat, a thick winter coat, a ‘smart’ winter coat, a puddle suit and DD2 also has a denim jacket and body warmer.

sheshootssheimplores · 16/08/2019 14:21

Loads and loads. Mainly because I was gifted some second hand ones and bought some new ones and then bought some second hand ones on top of that 🤦🏻‍♀️

Fundays12 · 16/08/2019 14:23

Oldest has a school logo rain coat fleece line, a casual waterproof warmer coat and a rain coat. Toddler has 2 warm winter coats, rain poncho and lined rain coat. Both will also get snow suits or rain suits most likely. Youngest is just a baby but has a few snow suits, pram suits, jackets etc.

ToastyFingers · 16/08/2019 14:24

mine both have a smart-ish one, a rough playing one, a school one and a mac.
