I've had it authenticated but I knew it was real when I saw it on eBay - I used to collect Mulberry bags but sold them all when we needed cash about a decade ago. The seller had just listed it as 'khaki bag'. I know it won't be to everyone's taste but little baguette bags are currently making a comeback AND it's the most beautiful old-style Mulberry - thick leather which smells amazing and beautiful bronze hardware. And did I mention it was £4.99?!

I'm so happy!

(Also please take this opportunity to share your best bargains because I do love a bargain story)

Who is giving these expensive handbags and new with tags clothes to charity shops in the first place? I mean, if you wanted to help out the charity surely you would point out to the staff how much they're worth so they could be priced accordingly?

I wish I could find some of these bargains in my local charity shops.

I’ve no idea what a Mulberry bag is but I did buy a concertina for £40.

Immaculate vintage Burberry Mac at a church jumble sale for 50p. The classic style tan one with the subtle check lining. Smelled like fusty OAP home but had it dry cleaned and it's gorgeous. That was 25 years ago and it still looks brand new. Gorgeous!

£800 Ikea sofa on sale on FB for £150 due to downsizing, went to collect, lady had looked at my FB and saw the charity work I done and said just give me £50!! Still have it 6 yrs later, super comfy.

donutrehomer · 15/08/2019 22:29

Six brand new tm lewin shirts for 50 pence each.

escapade1234 · 15/08/2019 22:29

I dropped off a lovely Coast dress from last summer at my local charity shop this week. Today I saw it in the window for £10. I’ve lost weight and don’t plan to need it again. Bargain for someone - I wore it once! Also a Comptoir des Cotonniers dress that cost me £200 two years ago - they’re selling that for £15. The volunteers can’t be expected to be familiar with all brands I guess.

I love a bargain. Well done OP 👏

Littlepond · 15/08/2019 22:32

SnappedandFartedagain · 15/08/2019 22:39

Wow OP what a bargain! What do you reckon the price should have been?

BiBiBirdie · 15/08/2019 22:39

@FilledSoda it's a 1995 shoulder bag. It's packed away at the moment, I only use it for special occasions, had it about ten years now. DD has her eyes on it already

I bought a 1920s Angela Brazil school story with a gorgeous cover for 50p in a village charity shop.

I read it and then listed it on eBay, where someone snapped it up for £80. This was about 17 years ago so it would probably be worth quite a lot more now.

I found a nice old piece of Emma Bridgewater in a local charity shop. Worth at least £100 and they were selling it for £3. I gave them £30. Still got it now, it’s one of my favourite pieces.

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2019 22:46

All the uniform DS needs for middle school
-£17, rather than about £200!

Most of the designer named bags in charity shops are very good copies, ones that can't be sold on Ebay or in designer agencies. Well, they can but if someone spots them and reports them they can be in trouble. Many people are happy to have a bag that looks like a designer bag but can't afford the genuine ones.

On Ebay they are generally listed as a 'Brown leather bag etc.' or similar but without the name on the listing, and the name on the bag is often in an unclear photo. Stitching is often not pristine and the name is not embossed, just printed on so to get round it the photo is blurred. At one time there were loads of Westwood ones on Ebay and they were really good fakes and very nice bags. You see many of the knock off Vuitton ones listed that way.

I once noticed a fake in a designer dress agency and asked about it (the staff knew me as I used to take my old stuff in to sell), was told it had been a gift and the lady didn't like it. When I explained why it wasn't genuine they asked to look inside my bag so they could see the difference. The owner of the shop would have known but the ladies that were peering into my bag didn't. I don't know if they left it on sale or not.

I have never been lucky with charity shops.

I love a good charity shop rummage but only really look for the DC. My father always finds amazing things and once bought an Yves Saint Laurent suit in his local charity shop and paid no more than £20. It fitted him perfectly.

CaptainJaneway62 · 15/08/2019 22:54

On Ebay I got an Ikea Ektorp sofa and 2 chairs less than 12months old at the time. It was buy it now £10!! I could not believe my luck and it was only 10minutes away from me.

Hawkmoth · 15/08/2019 22:57

My Best Buy so far was a lovely tartan type red baker skirt brand new from a charity shop for £10, tag was £100. This is definitely putting me in the mood to go rummaging again soon!
