Not sure where to post this! DD has just turned8 & says she feels left out at school sometimes as her friends talk abut YouTube and Netflix & she doesn’t know what they’re talking about. To be fair, I don’t either. She has a Kindle & there’s an age limit on that content, she still likes what she calls baby stuff but I’m open to her exploring other age appropriate content but I’m not sure what to guide her towards as I don’t know there is. Her friend mentioned the Norris Nuts but that looks quite grown up to me?

7.5yo boy watches Minecraft crap on YouTube (unspeakable, shark, moose...other idiots).

We don't have Netflix.

He's been watching (and researching) Ty he Indiana Jones trilogy on Amazon prime, but TV series-wise, nothing . He doesn't seem to be missing out on anything wrt his friends.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 10/08/2019 14:48

i think the norris nuts should be fine, they mostly do challenges (eg: who can buy the best present for one of the siblings.) she would also be fine with 'i draw you cook' where some chefs set out to create a dish based on a kids drawing. on netflix, i can recommend Wild Kratts, Shopkins, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir and Spirit Riding Free, all of which are watched by my 8 year old niece x

FindaPenny · 10/08/2019 14:54

My 8 year old love hack type videos on youtube, so Troom Troom. She also watches something called Bro vs Sis and a youtuber called wengie.
Together on YouTube we will watch graveyard girl, Moriah Elisabeth (squishie makeovers) and saltecrafter.

On netflix we watch a show called nailed it. Its a show where people who can't cook make fancy cakes.... There's a spy show that most kids like called mc squared or something like that, but she wasn't that into it. She likes the puss in boots series and boss baby series.

On sky she likes Hunter Street.

elliejjtiny · 10/08/2019 14:58

My 8 year old watches numberblocks, roblox videos and there is a series on you tube where a dad and son try out board games.

spaniorita · 10/08/2019 15:00

My 8yo ds watches mainly WWE videos and also some of the bro vs sis on YouTube

On Netflix he really likes the Little Lunch Australian series.

BlackCatSleeping · 10/08/2019 15:01

My daughter mostly watches Minecraft videos on YouTube. She’s obsessed with the Adventures of Ladybug and Chat Noir at the moment.

giggleshizz · 10/08/2019 15:09

Dd 7 watches bro v sis, teen Titans go, Dr Slime, and children opening various things like eggs! She also has started watching prank videos. I try and keep some control as most of it is rubbish. Netflix I set to kids stuff so she is free to pick what she likes. We've recently watched the first three episodes of Mia and Me which was fantastic

FixItUpChappie · 10/08/2019 15:44

You My 8 yr old has no iPad, no phone and no access to YouTube. I do turn on cartoons via netflicks now and again though.

I am just clear that not all kids have the same rules and that it's for their parents to sort out.

Zoflorabore · 10/08/2019 15:51

We don't have Netflix but all have iPads and dd who is 8 loves YouTube.

She is obsessed with The Norris Nuts, it's a
Group of Australian siblings who do challenges etc and is appropriate for this age. She also loves Mariah Elizabeth doing her "create this" series which is all about drawings/art which dd is brilliant at.

She also watches a lot of mystery type family blogs ( a modern day famous five I describe them as! ) but she is out at the moment and I don't know the name of that channel.

She also loves Kelli Maple who blogs about baby alive dolls and treats them like real babies, the GEM sisters and she used to love watching Tiana but I don't think she's watched that for a while.

Other things are 5 minute crafts and life hacks, all tailored to children.

We were at a wedding recently and there was another little girl there from another country who was the same age as dd. The only thing they had in common was talking about what they watched on YouTube...

cindersrella · 10/08/2019 15:54

I load of shite if she gets the chance 🤪

BB8sm8 · 10/08/2019 17:02

Wow I’ve heard of none of this stuff. I feel like I’ve been living in a cave 🙈

Dd1 is 8 & doesn't watch YouTube but on Netflix likes Just Add Magic, Miraculous Ladybug, Kate & Alexa & Sugar Rush which is a bit like bake off.

cindersrella · 10/08/2019 17:10

Stay In The cave OP for as long as you can 👌🏼

Zoflorabore · 10/08/2019 21:25

Dd told me the one that I mentioned earlier is "That YouTube family" they're the ones who remind me of the famous five, always off on adventures and hiding from "bandits" and looking for treasure etc.
She also likes sis v bro.

AntHilda · 10/08/2019 21:46

Fortnite 'pros', and someone called Morgz which is actually quite funny.

Chocolatepeanuts · 10/08/2019 21:50

On YouTube mostly Dan TDM, hes a gamer, and bro vs sis. I think its brain rot and limit ot as much as possible.

Netflix is Teen Titans Go.

cocomelon23 · 10/08/2019 21:51

My 9 year old watches Dan TDM on YouTube and watches Sonic Boom on Netflix

Mumshappy · 10/08/2019 21:52

Dd8 loves the Norris nuts. They are the best of a bad bunch on you tube. Shes also obsessed with full house and fuller house on Netflix. I've banned all the you tubers who have excessive material things ie tiana and the ingham family.

MillieMollieMandi · 10/08/2019 21:53

'Just Add Magic' is a wonderful series. Not sure if it's on Netflix or not but definitely worth watching (one I didn't mind watching too!)

Scruffalicious · 10/08/2019 21:57

Dinosaur Train

TonOfLead · 10/08/2019 21:57

Troom Troom

Also Carter Sharer (and the rest of the Sharer 'fam'). Which isn't aimed at her age group but seems to be ok.
