One of my favourites! Sad Or spud-oo-lickay as Victoria Wood referred to it.

Wondered why it was closed at Bluewater the other day! Loved that place.

StoatofDisarray · 05/08/2019 13:21

I haven't seen a branch since the 1990s - I thought they'd closed down decades ago!

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 13:22

I loved the ones in food halls. The DSs would have some old rubbish from the burger places and I could have a baked spud, everyone happy.

Good but expensive in Staffordshire a couple of months ago.

We sometimes called our cat, 'cat u like' for a joke.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 13:24

Yes, I agree not cheap for what is just a potato but they had a certain charm.

Blimey I thought they went years ago. The on in our town closed in the early eighties.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 13:28

We never had one locally but they seemed to do okay in food halls at shopping malls and outlet centres.

DH is in a peck because his deliberate spud-ooo-likkaay pronunciation won't be available to piss me people off anymore

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 13:34

He can spend all day telling people 'spud-ooo-likkaay' have shut all their shops. Grin

Did he think of that all by himself Monica or did he just watch Victoria Wood in the 1980s?

There is/was one in our local shopping centre but I never had one because I like my baked potatoes just so, and can't bring myself to eat one prepared by anyone else in case there are bad bits, eyes or if it hasn't been cooked from fresh right then.

lucysnowe2 · 05/08/2019 13:40

Didn't Wayne and Waynetta call their child Spudulike? pronounced SpudUlika? :)

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/08/2019 13:44

This

NoSauce · 05/08/2019 13:57

I thought they’d gone about 20 years ago.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 05/08/2019 14:02

Yes, but what of her sister, Frogmella?

S0CKS · 05/08/2019 14:03

Im so sorry for the staff what an awful situation to be in though im not suprised its gone i found it rediculously expensive for what it was and not normally that nice but still staff are without jobs and that's never good

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 14:31

Newsflash-they did not close down 20 years ago. Grin That's why they are closing down now. Grin

Someone I know sold their thriving business to Spudulike many years ago and made a fortune.

I'm with Sparkling. When we go out for the day then he ds ccould have his maccies/KFC/whatever and dh and I can have a jacket potato. It was a good fast food option for ds who has to eat a very low salt diet.

Chakano · 05/08/2019 14:41

I haven't seen these since the 90's thought well gone

NoSauce · 05/08/2019 14:41

I know that now Grin I just thought they had. They are a very 80/90s thing.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 14:43

I do love a food hall. You can all sit together but all have what you want (well used to). DH always disappears and comes back with something fantastic from the noodle places.
I will have to broaden my horizons...

IvanaPee · 05/08/2019 14:44

Was it literally just baked potatoes??

SistersOfPercy · 05/08/2019 14:45

If it helps, the tikka sauce they used was the Lloyd Grossman jars you can buy in supermarkets, though obviously in bigger tubs.

Comefromaway · 05/08/2019 14:47

I'm a plain baked beans girl myself.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 14:49
