One of my favourites! Sad Or spud-oo-lickay as Victoria Wood referred to it.

You will never get to behold the wonder of a Spud-U-Like dinner. Sad

Potatoes are evil. Never trust a vegetable with eyes. 👀

boatyardblues · 05/08/2019 16:10

Oh no. 😕 Our nearest big town had one and my kids loved their spuds. Agree it was overly pricy for a spud, but the rent, staff and utility bills don’t pay themselves.

I feel personally victimized by the closure. Sad

plantwhisperer · 05/08/2019 16:12

I loved it too! Didn't go regularly as my closest one was 45mins away but always had it for lunch when travelling near there. Healthy and quite cheap too.

Plus I hate cooking baked potatoes at home.

Horsemad · 05/08/2019 16:15

Sad Used to love Spud-u-Like, haven't seen one for long time though.

noblegiraffe · 05/08/2019 16:20

I’d always go in there for lunch if our shopping but it did feel very much like a ghost town while places like GBK or McDonalds were buzzing. It was quite expensive for what it was too.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 16:23

Slightly unconnected but our town is getting a Five Guys. I am not fussed about that but the DSs are thrilled.

We have a GBK but never been, DS says that's quite pricey.

Spud-U-Like was where the discerning 80s teen went for lunch on Saturday, loudly spurning McDonald's as being "full of kids".
Cheese and coleslaw filling was the height of sophistication to teenage me, but my philistine mate argued chilli baked beans was better. Obviously she was so, so wrong (shakes head).

LoveGrowsWhere · 05/08/2019 16:26

The one in Cheshire Oaks had Fentimans rose lemonade which made it almost naice in my eyes :)

BellatrixLeStrangest · 05/08/2019 16:29

I had one once from the Trafford centre, I bought it for my lunch when I was working. It was absolutely rock hard. I never went back and wrote an email telling them that particular potato was a spud-I-didn't-like.
I thought the concept was great, shame I could've built a wall with my potatoe

LoafofSellotape · 05/08/2019 16:30

I honestly thought they'd gone bust years ago,I've not seen one since the 90s.

Groovee · 05/08/2019 16:35

We have one in our local shopping centre. Another place has closed too. Pizza Hut and Burger King do well.

The one in town was posher and did a tuna nicosè salad over crushed butter potatoes. It was amazing!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/08/2019 16:49

Why has it never occurred to me to put egg mayonnaise in a baked potato ... this is a revelation!!

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/08/2019 17:00

In the olden days you got garlic bread with your potato meal.

Loved a bean and cheese one though

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/08/2019 17:00

Also the one in Chester had some important Roman ruins beneath and tourists would walk through as you were eating

5guys is awesome!!!!

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 17:18

5 Guys is very expensive for what it is ,especially considering you aren't in there long.

BloomingHydrangea · 05/08/2019 17:18

5 Guys is good but it is expensive.

managedmis · 05/08/2019 17:18

God that menu's short

LoseLooseLucy · 05/08/2019 17:20

Never seen a Spud-u-like shop, more's the pity, love a good baked potato.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2019 18:00

God that menu's short

It's a baked potato shop.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 05/08/2019 18:05

Crushed topped potatoes??????

They went UP in the world since I last went!! Shock

About the same prices for jacket spuds as our local sandwich shop which has many more fillings

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 05/08/2019 18:07

@Sparklingbrook
It doesn't occur to nanny of my friends, I often get weird looks when I order one if we ate out for lunch Grin

Chicken, bacon mayo and sweetcorn is another filling I tend to convert people to Grin
