One of my favourites! Sad Or spud-oo-lickay as Victoria Wood referred to it.

I hadn't seen one in a long time either, the main shopping town we go to doesn't have a food court, just separate outlets, but as a family of diverse tastes we do like the concept of everyone buying from different counters but eating together, we do this at a service station occasionally.

Don't think much of Five Guys though, I prefer McDs.

maidenover · 06/08/2019 08:06

I have had a spud-u-like for decades but then I haven’t ventured into a food court for a very long time either. I do always think fondly of Victoria Wood when I here the name though.

5Guys are nice but we nearly had to remortgage the house when we took the kids for a treat recently. Ridiculously expensive.

maidenover · 06/08/2019 08:08

Hear the name Blush

I’m going to have to make jacket potatoes for tea I think.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/08/2019 08:11

I also thought they'd gone years ago, had a look at that price list, blimey they weren't cheap !
Never even heard of Five Guys.

Fucksandflowers · 06/08/2019 08:26

I can't say i am surprised.

I used to love a cottage cheese spud u like as a teenager whenever I was in town but it is was massively massively overpriced in my opinion and certain staff were really stingy and you would get hardly any filling!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/08/2019 08:37

I had to have a spud last night after reading this .... prawn mayo with salad.

Blueuggboots · 06/08/2019 08:41

I'm not surprised.
Overpriced and poor quality.
Independent baked potato places are far better imho.

I'm a bit gutted because I thought it had gone from the nearest big town years ago and now I'm mourning all the lost opportunities for a jacket potato😢

We do have a love cafe on a pier, the nearest town the other direction that does lovely jacket potatoes with a sea view though so all is not lost.

Now I'm hungry......

Sparklingbrook · 06/08/2019 08:51

I never had a poor quality Spud u Like. Always v nice.

Ds can't eat five guys due to the peanut oil.

Groovee · 06/08/2019 09:44

I miss their mixed bean salad. It was amazing. I used to get a butter potato with the bean salad.

Redact · 06/08/2019 10:15

I too thought they had closed down years ago. I remember in the eighties when as a teen I used to have a spud-u-like with butter, cheese and coleslaw thinking it was the healthy option! Not sure it was even compared to a supper from the chip shop!

Oops it kept saying it hadn't posted!

LoafofSellotape · 06/08/2019 10:21

We have to avoid 5 Guys because of nut allergy too. I wonder why they don't change it, must be loads of people who would ear there and it's not like you can't have no e chops unless you dry them in peanut oil Confused

I miss huge baked potatoes, don't they grow them big anymore?

AdobeWanKenobi · 06/08/2019 10:45

I wonder why they don't change it

Because their business model is based on peanut oil. They advertise it well so you can make the choice to avoid them. Frying in peanut oil is what makes the fries so tasty.

Lauren83 · 06/08/2019 11:25

Used to love going there especially in my younger days with a hangover when I was working Saturdays in Selfridges

Jacket potato with tuna and cheese with loads of salt and pepper eaten with that annoying spork thing

Garlic bread

Tango

Of course. Go to a greengrocer rather than a supermarket.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 06/08/2019 12:49

Never been to a spudulike but I do love 5 Guys. Our nearest is 45 minutes away, but if I want a burger, I'll travel there rather than go to any of the other burger places much coser to home!

BarbaraofSeville · 06/08/2019 12:49

I don't like massive baked potatoes, they take too long to cook. If I want a lot of potato, I'll have two.

I particularly like the four packs of Extra Special/Taste the Difference ones that Asda or Sainsbury's do, with some or all of tuna mayo, grated cheese, cottage cheese and butter on them.

5 minutes in the microwave and then 5-10 minutes in the oven at full blast means you can have a crispy skinned potato without having to wait hours for it to cook.

LoafofSellotape · 06/08/2019 12:51

We haven't got a greengrocer.

2 potatoes aren't the same at all, don't know why! To speed up the cooking of a big one a metal skewer through it works a treat.

Girlofgold · 06/08/2019 13:00

Aw that was my favourite (in the far flung shopping centre it was located in).
