How many children did you decide to have?

How many children did you decide to have, and why?
Honestly curious how/why different people decide on number of kids to have (with the full understanding that unplanned kids happen, too!).

One. I had one. It seemed the obvious number.

ScreamingValenta · 05/08/2019 07:27

None. I wouldn't make a very good mum.

EmrysAtticus · 05/08/2019 07:28

One largely due to PND. Now I am so glad we didn't have more as life is awesome with one :)

Pineapplefish · 05/08/2019 07:29

I have three. I always wanted two but I was surprised by how much I loved being a mum! Three is quite hard work though Confused

Thegracefuloctopus · 05/08/2019 07:29

One. And I'll be stopping at one until out finances are fully sorted and we have a house. I won't be having another until this happens and even then I would be wary due to Pnd

Two which was perfect for me and them. I've never craved a third.

I'm an only and always wanted a sibling so that probably had a part to play.

Wanted 3 all my life.

Had 2, decided it was a lot of hard work and a third would send me over the edge Grin

I think for children, it is preferable in general to have more siblings. Gives them a larger family once they're older and usually a bigger support network.

I'd rather my dc had more siblings but am too exhausted for more!

sheshootssheimplores · 05/08/2019 10:07

I decided to have three but could only have two.

yikesanddang · 05/08/2019 10:08

3

PleaseGoogleIt · 05/08/2019 10:09

One.

I'm not sure why anyone would have more to be honest! Wink

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 05/08/2019 10:09

I'd have liked to have 2, but after a rough pregnancy, a very unsupportive exH and very bad anxiety afterwards, the likelihood is that I'm one and done. I'm 34, single, with a 3 year old, so I doubt that'll change anytime.

Crowdo · 05/08/2019 10:09

One. I would rather have had a sibling for him, but I found motherhood very overwhelming and I got divorced when he was very young and never got back into a situation where I might be able to have another.

Swishyswash · 05/08/2019 10:11

I have 1, but wanted 3. Due to multiple miscarriages wasn't able to have more.

MsTSwift · 05/08/2019 10:12

Two. Fortunately same sex and get on very well so our life is now pretty easy. Was one of 3 myself someone always left out and as a kid it felt like there were too many of us envied the 2 and 1 child families. Also have environmental guilt couldn’t justify a third and felt like rolling the dice again

IdblowJonSnow · 05/08/2019 10:14

One but ended up with two!
Very happy now but was also happy with one.
I don't know how people manage 3 or more!

OhMsBeliever · 05/08/2019 10:14

I always wanted 4. Number 3 turned out to be 3 & 4, and I was broody again as soon as they were born. So had number 5 a few years later, and knew as soon as he was born I was done.

Maybe my body felt cheated out of a 4th pregnancy by having twins? Grin

Sorry for double post, it said it hadn't posted. I don't have 10 kids. 😂

OldAndWornOut · 05/08/2019 10:15

Just the one.
I'm not much of an earth mother.

TrickyKid · 05/08/2019 10:16

Decided to have 2 but got 3. As an only child I never wanted to just have one.

yellowallpaper · 05/08/2019 10:16
  1. Luckily I had a boy and a girl. Hated pregnancy and giving birth so I was happy to be done with it and get sterilised.
