So far this morning we've had:

  1. Why Brexit is a great thing.
  2. Why Europe hates us.
  3. Why all social problems are down to "the ethnics".
  4. Why education isn't really that important for girls.
  5. Why Donald Trump actually has a lot of good ideas.

We're here until this time tomorrow. I'll be a quivering wreck by then.

Another time someone was going on about Asylum seekers - I mentioned that the Holy Family were Asylum seekers because they escaped to Egypt (they were going on about Muslims then to)

latexsalesman · 03/08/2019 16:02

My pil are similar. And they're immigrants! It's fucking odd. But they seem to think they're better than asylum seekers because 'we did everything right.' Well not everyone has that privilege.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/08/2019 16:09

Most of our country is built of the blood, sweat, tears and death of those 'ethnics'. Do they not know why the map was pink, we didn't rock up and make friends, we brutalised, stripped resources and damaged local and regional relationships that had been in place for centuries.

I'd be going for a long walk to the pub and making sure the food shopping was entirely 'ethnic'.

They took the Prosecco out of the fridge to make space for orange juice and now it's warm.

Just shoot me now.

Ah ostrai have relatives that don’t chill any drinks or have ice. They don’t like cold drinks so see no reason why anyone else should. Then get offended if you won’t have an alcoholic drink. Had to stop my dp drinking a warm beer out of politeness as I’d noticed it was quite some time out of date. ‘Don’t be daft, it’ll be fine!’ they cried. 😬

Nubbled · 03/08/2019 17:04

That's a crime against humanity, it's not you who needs shot.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 17:04

I wouldn't have any sort of contact with racist bigots like that, relatives or not.

OtraCosaMariposa · 03/08/2019 17:15

Dh has put Prosecco in freezer.

In an ideal world none of us would have contact with anyone with unpleasant and offensive attitude but real life doesn't work like that.

Cunts.

Next week I am off to visit my parents along with my uncle and aunt.
Parents are slightly left of centre, uncle and aunt are so far left that they might fall over.

We will not be going to see the MiL who thinks it’s all the fault of the foreigns and voted leave to get them out.
We both refuse to see SiL and her partner who the last time we saw he regaled us with the story of how he did some building work on a mosque and hid a pigs head in it ‘because them Muslims don’t like pigs’.

YouJustDoYou · 03/08/2019 17:20

My MIL would take the kids milk out the fridge to make way for her wine.

cheeseislife8 · 03/08/2019 17:27

I was already feeling for you OP, but the prosecco thing? Barbarians!

Smile, nod, tune out... and DRINK!

darkcloudsandsunnyskies · 03/08/2019 17:27

There is no difference between remainers and leavers.

I have a dream.

That one day you will both just shut the fuck up for five minutes.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 03/08/2019 17:29

God they'd love me - a Remainer, anti-Trump, degree educated, female ethnic who's part Scottish 😂

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/08/2019 17:35

Sounds like my in-laws too , except you didn’t mention that the Polish people are catching , butchering and eating the swans

They don’t like Prosecco , they like the Buck’s Fizz you get in bottles from Marks , it’s lovely and low alcohol 🤢

PippiDeLena · 03/08/2019 17:39

The Daily Mail has radicalised an entire generation. That paper turned my formerly loving, kind and generous grandparents into frothing racist nutters.

I avoid talking about any foreign country / Brexit / immigration related stuff with them due to the aforementioned racism, but they shoehorn their twisted worldview into any conversation. We once had a lively discussion about how they believe 'tree hugging lezzers' had ruined the pub industry. They also believe that although some gay people exist, most gay people nowadays are not really gay, and are just doing it to be cool and fashionable. Confused

Pebbles16 · 03/08/2019 17:43

They are only in their 50s?
Bloody hell
My PILs and Dad are dreadful. Mum slightly better (not much) but they are in their 70s/80s.
They also all think people can "catch the gay".
Conversation nowadays is mostly about gardening or holidays as most other subjects elicit my very scary hard stare or "we don't say that in this house"

Moodyfoodie · 03/08/2019 17:43

Though of course, no-body else on MN reads it - despite knowing everything that is said in there... hmm

Exactly this. We all know it's MN'ers guilty pleasure! Grin

DownToTheSeaAgain · 03/08/2019 17:44

My PIL are just the same. I quite enjoy arguing the opposite points. Time passes much faster.

OtraCosaMariposa · 03/08/2019 17:49

No they're in their 70s. My BIL is 54. DH And I are in our 40s.

Pebbles16 · 03/08/2019 17:49

Also PILs are immigrants. I'd forgotten that! They're the right sort though. Apparently

Pebbles16 · 03/08/2019 17:50

Not that it changes having stupid views but PHEW!

Knittedfairies · 03/08/2019 17:56

My friend's dad insisted that the water-shortage in the South East a few years ago was caused by 'them migrants coming over from Calais and drinking all our water'. We were in hysterics, which was like a red rag to a bull...

cstaff · 03/08/2019 19:40

@Knittedfairies
So was the heatwave their fault last year also or had the blame shifted on to some other poor innocent fuckers 🤣🤣

OtraCosaMariposa · 03/08/2019 20:06

PIL don't believe in climate change either. Or in "fads" like recycling and not using plastics.
