Why have people stopped indicating?!

I dont know if its just me that has noticed this but so many drivers just don't indicate. Its the most frustrating thing not knowing what the driver in front is going to do 😤

And breathe...

I hate it when people don't indicate when they are on a roundabout - if you're waiting to join and they don't indicate you have to assume they are coming straight on and wait but they often go left.

Nquartz · 02/08/2019 12:53

The roundabout thing infuriates me too! I was sat at one yesterday like a lemon waiting to go & so many people turned left without indicating so I didn't know which way they were going AngryAngry

Winterfellismyhome · 02/08/2019 14:29

Yes! The roundabout thing is so annoying

MsJRMEsq that with swinging bells on. I started to think that something’s changed in the code and I wasn't aware. Round here half of drivers do not signal when turning left.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 02/08/2019 14:32

But they do signal for turning right when going ahead Confused🤬

HJWT2 · 02/08/2019 14:37

Why are people so rude and ignorant in general! In 5 minutes I had a man speed up because I was on his side of the road then give me shit for being in his way but if he didn't speed up I would of been back on my side of the road before he got there 🤔, let 2 other men out of a side road and got NO thank you! Then an old man messed up on a roundabout and cut me up! Didn't even bother to say sorry!!

Maybe its just men 😂

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 02/08/2019 14:45

Yes, I've noticed this too.

Along with so many people who don't know how to use roundabouts, let alone indicators!

Ariela · 02/08/2019 14:54

They've stopped indicating for the same reason that people now swing left (and into the adjacent lane) immediately before turning right. They're NOT driving a large rigid.

WinterRose92 · 02/08/2019 14:56

THIS DRIVES ME MAAAAAAAD!!! I drive a lot for my job but am currently on maternity leave - not having to drive so much has really improved my mood 😂

I often have to wait ages as a pedestrian trying to cross near a roundabout, due to drivers not indicating, and being too wary to risk crossing in fast-moving traffic.Angry

Amrapaali · 02/08/2019 15:14

No one indicates when changing lanes on the motorway either. Has anybody noticed this?

These numpties just swerve into a lane and expect the long line of traffic to brake and accommodate them. Bloody idiots!

I was taught to always spot an appropriate space in between vehicles and indicate and look over blind spot before even attempting to switch lanes.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 02/08/2019 15:14

I was pulling out of work yesterday. An oncoming car was indicating right to pull into the church opposite, so I pulled out, except he didn't turn. He kept coming, followed me up the road, turned left at the roundabout and then left at the next junction, before turning his RIGHT indicator off. Maybe he stole all the indications?

NoShitHemlock · 02/08/2019 15:29

Ooh I know the answer to this one - its these new magic cars. All new cars no longer come with indicators and you are supposed to have done the Divination OWL so you can predict which way its going to turn.

I don't think they will catch on.....

Simkin · 02/08/2019 15:32

It drives me NUTS on the motorway. If you're moving into the middle lane, how does someone on either the inside or the outside know that unless you indicate?! So dangerous!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 02/08/2019 15:38

Every day i drive along a road which has parked cars on one side only.

On the way out, I bunny hop around the cars to get to the end, giving way to the traffic on the clear side. It's no big deal and never takes very long.

One my return, it's my ROW and I have the clear lane.

Yet every single time there will be some wanker who unilaterally decided he's had enough waiting and drives straight at me. Given (a) it's my ROW and (b) I have nowhere I can go (footpath on my side is high kerb and lined with trees), and (c) I have a dashcam that clearly shows them driving like nobs, they always have to concede. But why?

MrBobLobLaw · 02/08/2019 15:43

Ugh yep I'm with you OP. I don't drive by it sends me crazy as a pedestrian, especially as DS is still in his buggy for longer walks to the shops or whatever.

People just swing in to roads without indicating causing me to have to quickly drag the buggy back on to the pavement, then give me a dirty look as if should've known Hmm or they put up a paltry 'apologies' hand. Just fucking indicate! I'm now super cautious crossing the road.

Don't even get me started on how many drivers I see on their phone. And guess what folks- it's even obvious if your phone is in your lap!

YesQueen · 02/08/2019 15:49

I think my most said phrase in the car is "I'm not bloody mystic meg, INDICATE" BlushAngry

IceBearRocks · 02/08/2019 15:51

I've got a van now....no need to indicate Wink

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 02/08/2019 15:56

"They've stopped indicating for the same reason that people now swing left (and into the adjacent lane) immediately before turning right."

YES! THIS! Did these people get their driving licenses off the back of a cornflakes packet? (Other breakfast cereals are available)

I think half of the problem is so many people in massive great big 4x4s that they think a) makes them invulnerable and b) are the size of an articulated lorry.

"Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre". How many times recently have I seen "Manoeuvre, Signal, Mirror" on the motorway? They start pulling out, then indicate, then notice that I'm right in the way and suddenly swerve back into their lane. This is such basic stuff!

Moodyfoodie · 02/08/2019 15:56

I was wondering this too.. unfortunately I think it's indicative of a me me me and me first culture that seems to be prevailing in this country. People are out for themselves so much more these days.

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 02/08/2019 15:58

@YesQueen - I always remember an old Jasper Carrot sketch;
"Don't bother to indicate, I'm clairvoyant. I've got my crystal ball here. Halfords."

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 02/08/2019 15:59

Along with "Pick a lane. Any lane."

ithinkiammelting · 02/08/2019 16:03

Why do people do it? ~It's either because:

A - they are lazy bastards
B - they get a kick out of breaking the law
C - they couldn't give a shit about other road users or pedestrians
D - they think they are more important than everyone else

Frequently all 4 together.

catlady3 · 02/08/2019 16:06

I partly blame the police / highway code for this actually. There's a bit in there that says something along the lines of, indicate when there is someone who will benefit from it. I've been to motorcycle training with the police (and was also taught the same by my driving instructor) where they've told us to ONLY indicate when there's someone to benefit from it, and not otherwise. I personally think it's complete bollox to teach people that, because what you want is for the indicating to be automatic so people don't forget. Anyway, I guess this may be a local thing, but if this is what is being taught, it's no wonder people aren't in the habit - if you get shouted at for indicating too much!!
