Fun touches to your wedding

Hi,

I’m only starting to plan our wedding. Kind of have an idea in mind- everyone wearing sunset colour scheme, lemon and orange slices in water in vases for table decoration among some bright flowers

Let’s share some ideas for quirky, pretty and/or fun ideas to make a wedding setting ‘pop’. Having our day in Scotland so it can rain and be bleak, want something Pinterest-worthy to make the wedding colourful and interesting, without spending too much.

As an example, I made artificial flower corsages using online supplies for a relative and all her female guests (very small wedding, no bridesmaids) as keepsakes from the day. That was their wedding favour instead of getting something noone needs like a mini alcohol bottle or a sweetie.

Thanks!

I am baffled as to how you can claim to be a 'foodie' and then plan to serve Costco cakes at your wedding?

Disclaimer: I have never tried cake from Costco but I can't imagine they are the height of gastronomical sophistication? Confused

StrongInside · 31/07/2019 16:56

Constantlurker, thank you for your support! That is exactly what I wanted to say myself. Very close people who care a lot about us and who won’t mind adding a pop of colour. Beer pong, ha, interesting idea, thanks!

Most weddings you’ve been to were so boring they made you want to cry Confused
And this is the best you can come up with in your attempts to be non boring? Confused to the power of 10...

Propertyofhood · 31/07/2019 17:03

Most weddings I have been to were so boring and bog standard, they made me want to cry

Whereas I'm sure the sunset colour scheme and lemon slices in vases of yours will go down as the stuff of legend.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 31/07/2019 17:06

I really (really) like sweet and even I can't eat Costco cakes!

pinkunicornsparkles · 31/07/2019 17:14

Paper lanterns look lovely

pinkunicornsparkles · 31/07/2019 17:16

Re the colour scheme - I think it's fine if you make clear it's more of a request for a pop of colour rather than a full dress code, unless full dress is desired by the guest

Vagndidit · 31/07/2019 17:18

This is a very American thing to do (dictate your guest’s clothing)

No, it is not.

Reallybadidea · 31/07/2019 17:20

"Fun touches" sounds like you're going to go round tickling your guests Grin

Kayjay2018 · 31/07/2019 17:27

@StrongInside I'd recommend looking at Waitrose cakes - I got a lovely one for about £20 and added a just married little banner from hobbycraft - looked beautiful and tasted good too

Pickmeaholiday2019 · 31/07/2019 17:34

The problem with the 'quirky' wedding is that they aren't quirky at all. Everything has been done, splashed all over you tube, Facebook etc so nothing is unique. Maybe try and figure out how you and your guests will have fun rather than how it will look. You can't beat that.

Pickmeaholiday2019 · 31/07/2019 17:35

I'm another one who hates colour schemes.

You don't know what a coconut shy is ?
Shock

Cismyfatarse1 · 31/07/2019 17:55

How can you be a foodie and yet prefer cakes from Costco? One (opened) was left in our staff room for 6 weeks over the summer holidays and it didn't go mouldy - chemicals don't tend to.

Agreed, colour scheme is a terrible idea. Sorry but it is.

inthekitchensink · 31/07/2019 17:55

Chiffon strips are nice as chair ties - you can get masses on amazon cheap and tie in big bows of different colours. I kept all mine in a dressing up box for kids. Also silk flowers

inthekitchensink · 31/07/2019 17:57

If you do cocktails like tequila sunrise please let the bar know well in advance!

EggysMom · 31/07/2019 18:00

Fun thing for a small wedding - we didn't dictate a colour code, instead we advised that "hats will be worn". Not many people wear hats these days ... Some, including bride & groom, wore sensible hats; but many chose to wear silly hats which certainly livened up proceedings!

BloomingHydrangea · 31/07/2019 18:01

All these ideas sound like a total waste of time and money.

The naff extras don't add anything but cost and end up trampled on the floor at the end of the night. No-one takes the favours home or eats or drinks them and they end up in the bin.

Family, friends, good food, good wine- that is all that you need.

No pantomime dressing up or side shows.

HeadintheiClouds · 31/07/2019 18:02

Silly hats... 🤦‍♀️

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 31/07/2019 18:02

So I’ve got some ideas:

Colour theme - various lightweight fabric scraps / scarves to have the line up photos of everyone throwing them in the air. That way you get your pops of colour without the issuing a dress code (I wouldn’t be keen to be told what to wear). You can rent wedding props from various companies maybe a chair bow /sash could be used?

Sparklers - I loved having sparklers in the evening of a wedding. We gave 3 per guest on a bookcase with a little sign inviting all our guests to play with them outside with us. I loved it, and my guests got some amazing photos especially with the fairy lights in the garden.

General nice things like retro disposable cameras on tables, if you’re into dancing then flip flops or slippers for female guests. Considering any children with activity packs or entertainment.

BloomingHydrangea · 31/07/2019 18:02

Some, including bride & groom, wore sensible hats; but many chose to wear silly hats which certainly livened up proceedings!

You know that they did that because they thought it was a pretentious request and they were trying to tell you so.

bubblesforlife · 31/07/2019 18:03

Hangover bags, I bought cute personalised tags on Etsy.
We’ll have a can of coke, bottle of water, Panafon, maybe some chocolate or something in it.

Also charity donation instead of favours with cards on the table.

I bought China tea cup candles to go on cake stand.

Honestly, I’ve bought little personalised stuff on Etsy. Such cute stuff!

Big focus on music and food for the day
