Fun touches to your wedding

Hi,

I’m only starting to plan our wedding. Kind of have an idea in mind- everyone wearing sunset colour scheme, lemon and orange slices in water in vases for table decoration among some bright flowers

Let’s share some ideas for quirky, pretty and/or fun ideas to make a wedding setting ‘pop’. Having our day in Scotland so it can rain and be bleak, want something Pinterest-worthy to make the wedding colourful and interesting, without spending too much.

As an example, I made artificial flower corsages using online supplies for a relative and all her female guests (very small wedding, no bridesmaids) as keepsakes from the day. That was their wedding favour instead of getting something noone needs like a mini alcohol bottle or a sweetie.

Thanks!

Can we all please stick to the original question rather than give unsolicited advice? Everyone who is coming to our wedding is up for a laugh and will for sure go with the theme. If someone turned down an invite because they were somehow offended by our dress code of simply wearing a pop of colour, that’s their problem and their loss! It’s our day and our rules. Come on, apart from maybe green and light blue, it’s literally any colour of the rainbow! I want a bright colourful wedding, sunset theme on Pinterest just got my attention- red, orange, pink, lilac, purple, blue. They go together and look pretty, that’s all. To each their own, eh.

Weddings with dress codes are the absolute worst! As if it didn't already cost enough.

GabrielsCurls · 31/07/2019 11:26

Are the men expected to wear a red suit?

Cop yourself on OP!

Chilledout11, who said anything about annual leave? It’s a local wedding on a Saturday, no one needs time off or to travel far.

I can’t understand why people are so focused on the colours rather than my question. It’s not an AIBU question or a what’s your opinion!

I wish you the best OP. I hope your Scottish wedding 'pops' and is as pinterest worthy as you might wish.

I have no useful suggestions I'm afraid as the fun touches from weddings which I remember tend to be ones to do with food or entertainment or activities rather than how it looks.

Foslady · 31/07/2019 11:30

So your theme is ‘Pinterest worthy’......?

Ok.

I’m get my coat.......

Caramellow · 31/07/2019 11:31

I'd hope that you're paying for them. That's generally what the bride and groom do at weddings. You don't get a medal for that and it doesn't mean that your guests are your own personal puppets.

MamaLazarou · 31/07/2019 11:32

I can’t understand why people are so focused on the colours rather than my question.

Because most people hate that kind of thing with a passion.

Foslady · 31/07/2019 11:33

And actually good/drink favours go down well, less stuff to cart away with you.

Surely this wedding should be about making it personal to you, not to say ‘look how good my instagram looks?’

I’m obviously an old fart I guess

ODFOx · 31/07/2019 11:35

oooh oooh: bunting! Bunting (not the expensive 'weddingy Cath Kidston type', but the brightly coloured type) is a relatively inexpensive way to add a really bright festive vibe. Cotton is expensive but the ripstop nylon ones are great value and can be sold on.

Caramellow · 31/07/2019 11:36

It's a nice idea for a theme and there are lots of ways to have a theme without demanding that guests dress in particular colours.

PurpleDaisies · 31/07/2019 11:39

thanks for your opinion but I will definitely be asking guests to dress in theme colours

Lovely. A bride who doesn’t care about her guests. That’s what weddings are all about.

notso · 31/07/2019 11:39

I don't class being told what to wear as fun and I've never needed a corsage but have appreciated a mini bottle of alcohol.

Things I've enjoyed seeing at weddings have been stories about the couple and pictures of them growing up etc.
We went to a wedding where each table had a photo of the couple together and a story. It was a lovely touch.

Otherwise forced fun isn't fun. The best weddings I have attended aren't the WOW weddings planned to the last detail. They have had good food and drink, great music and everyone is relaxed and happy.

Honestly the your wedding your rules thing makes you sound ridiculous. In a few months time you and everyone else won't care about colours or themes or any of that crap.

Nottobesoldseparately · 31/07/2019 11:39

People are not focused on your colours. We focused on you dictating a colour (Any colour) to wear.
That takes the fun out of things for many people, as we've highlighted.
However, you know your guests and if you think they will be ok they really wont, despite telling you otherwise with being told what to wear then so be it.

You need to take a deep breath and enjoy your wedding for what it is meant to be, otherwise you risk turning into a bridezilla, your answers on here are showing you that you are already getting there.

Morgan12 · 31/07/2019 11:45

I think alcohol or something edible is a much better favour than a corsage. I'd have just thrown that away tbh.

What kind of thing do you have in mind for the men to wear? I'm trying to imagine what my DH would buy for this theme but I'm stuck. He would usually wear a grey or black suit. Or a kilt.

Disfordarkchocolate · 31/07/2019 11:49

We had wedding crackers, we filled them ourselves with confetti, poems, fortunes telling fish. Went down really well.

Disfordarkchocolate · 31/07/2019 11:49

PS there are no sunset colours that suit the redhead.

EdtheBear · 31/07/2019 11:52

Def don't tell people what to wear!

You know my top tip, think very very carefully about your guest list. That's my biggest regret at my wedding!

Cazziebo · 31/07/2019 11:52

Wisest wedding advice ever from Peachgreen!

CurbsideProphet · 31/07/2019 11:55

I'm getting married soon. The focus is on - food everyone will enjoy, not leaving the guests hanging about for hours, and good music in the evening. I don't know if that's Pinterest worthy, but they're usually the key points I remember as a wedding guest!

KnittingSister · 31/07/2019 11:59

Last time I went to buy a dress, I tried on every dress in every shop, except the black dresses - I don't do black. I bought the dress that looked the best, the colour was the least of my worries.

Good luck OP.Flowers

ParadigmGiraffe · 31/07/2019 12:08

Hmm I'm a redhead and I could wear a stormy sunset colour. V deep burgundy. I suspect that's not what you are after but it would tone.

The rainbow umbrella tip above is fab.

I'd hate to be td what sort of colour to wear. My dh would love it.

Fun stuff at weddings...good people to chat too, great food, booze, good music or a ceilidh. Places to sit that are quiet to have a proper catch up chat. Tea on tap for later on for the oldies.

I cant remember decorations bunting or sagging.

SinkGirl · 31/07/2019 12:11

This is a very American thing to do (dictate your guest’s clothing) and it won’t go down well - the difference here is that people will be honest about it to your face, your guests will only bitch about it behind your back.

I say this kindly - most people don’t have the skill or quality control to pull off “Pinterest worthy”. Pinterest fails are a thing for a reason and, as someone who used to work in an area of the wedding industry, I would see it a lot - people who think “pfft, I’m not paying £x for that when i could do it myself”. It rarely ends well.

If you want to do things yourself, go simple - large single sunflowers in very simple classic vases will look better than trying to arrange a load of gerberas yourself, for example.

When arranging table decorations, be aware of the guests sitting around them - don’t put something face height in the middle of the table for example.

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/07/2019 12:14

It wouldn't bother me as a guest about a dress code, but i would ignore it if say i couldn't find a nice outfit in any of the colours. So be prepared for that.

TequilaMockingbird0 · 31/07/2019 12:20

Telling guests to wear sunset colours has to be a joke 😂
