At what age did you buy your first home?

And did you buy a home before or after kids?
How much ‘help’ did you get or did you raise a deposit alone?
I’m 29, no dc and renting, curiously wondering if I’m one of many or am I unusual!?

I was 28, bought it joint with DH before we got married (we were engaged though). Parents helped with the deposit.

I was 28. Bought a tiny flat in London, I had an inheritance gift from an uncle to put down a deposit, and took out a mortgage that was 3.5 x my income.

I would not be able to buy that flat now, even on my salary which reflects 30 years of promotion and professional development.

19, but that's back in the early 90s with 100% mortgage. Have no idea how people manage it these days!

29, DH and I bought our first home together. My mum gifted the deposit to us. From 18-29 I lived rent free in a house my parents owned, DH with me for the last couple of years. Had DS a year after moving into our own home Smile

I was 21. Bought with my husband. I had saved up a 5% deposit and paid for the fees etc with savings. I lived at home until then and paid my mum a small rent. The flat i bought was 87,000. I sold it 3 years later for 145,000 and it would now sell for 240,000. Salaries have absolutely not kept up.

26, me and my now husband saved the deposit on our own after 3 years. Also helped by choosing a little terraced house so we could just about afford it

22, with no help, but it was a beautiful 2 bed victorian flat for £21k!
