DH has just suggested that we go to the garden centre 'for a wander and a scone'. Now, 15 or so years ago I would have scoffed in his face had he even suggested such a thing but now I find the idea of a walk round the begonias, looking at overpriced garden acoutrements followed by a scone very agreeable.

We also had a conversation about whether cheese scones are better than fruit scones (we can't agree on this at all).

Is there any fucking hope at all or is this the start of the slippery slope? Anyone else?

At 46, a stroll around a garden centre followed by some cake in the coffee shop is my idea of heaven. My 25 party/city dwelling/night club loving self would have baulked at the very thought of something so boring and mundane , but I am in my element these days pottering.
I also love being amongst nature and anything calming. Oh and I just love an afternoon nap, yesterday it was so hot, I settled down on my sofa listening to some summertime jazz on YouTube and had a blissful 40 winks, bloody lovely!

I'm only 39 and that sounds lovely. We don't have a decent garden centre around here though : (

ilovecardigans · 27/07/2019 14:21

Antiques Roadshow, parsnips, butter beans and real ale.

amusedbush · 27/07/2019 14:26

I'm 29 and that sounds bloody lovely.

Camping. Started last year aged 43, loved it. Not going next week as I have whiplash from a shunt, DH is taking DS and leaving me with the dog Sad

Children! Up until about 32/33 the thought of DC gave me nightsweats. Then had one, and haven't slept properly since - no chance of nightswests!

Grandadwasthatyou · 27/07/2019 15:45

Radio 4
A nice night in
Mashed turnip ( or swede depending upon where you live ) with loads of butter and pepper.
A fluffy blanket to wrap around you when it's just a little bit chilly but you don't want to put the heating on.

Crunchymum · 27/07/2019 15:55

Rioja.

Didn't touch the stuff (or any red wine at all) until I was mid 30's

namechangeninjaevervigilant · 27/07/2019 15:58

A night in and early bedtime as opposed to going out for drinks with friends.

Gardeners World - it’s just a calming happy place where Trump, Johnson, Brexit, climate change and all my other worries seem a bit further away.

JoyceJeffries · 27/07/2019 16:03

The Royal Chelsea Flower Show is the highlight of the tv calendar. One week of pure heaven.

A nice hike in the country.
An early night.

My 18 yr old self would be horrified but I’m actually very content.

Clawdy · 27/07/2019 16:15

Staying in on a Saturday night.
Staying in on New Year's Eve, with nobody calling in!

BuckingFrolics · 27/07/2019 16:17

Chatting to complete strangers. Younger self used to cringe when my DM did it. Now I do it.

Pootling in the car at a sensible speed

Getting excited if there's a good Sunday night drama on TV.

A nice potter around a village fete is pleasant too.

sproutsandparsnips · 27/07/2019 16:17

Beetroot

BenWillbondsPants · 27/07/2019 16:19

Back from the garden centre and it was lovely. Had some lovely carrot cake instead of a scone and bought some lobelias and a pot. I'm feeling very happy. Nothing at all like when my dad used to drag us round Dodge City every Saturday afternoon. Grin

My 18 yr old self would be horrified but I’m actually very content.

I think there's a lot to be said for just being content isn't there, it's much underrated.

Spiders
I'd say cake or a scone at a garden centre but tbh that's never filled me with horror.

SeaOtterFluff · 27/07/2019 16:30

A mooch round a National Trust and a decent cup of tea followed by a trip to the garden centre is my perfect day out. If you can throw a shop with knitting and/or embroidery supplies and a selection of nice charity shops in, I'm delighted.
I'm 43, and I think I was born to be middle aged. I've never been more comfortable in my own skin. I spent years trying not to become my mother and here I am...

ProperVexed · 27/07/2019 16:33

Bird spotting! I can't believe that I do it and enjoy it. I love an hour in a bird hide. I've even bought a camera so I can now photograph the birds (if they would stay still long enough]. My younger self would have laughed at me.

chubbysquid · 27/07/2019 16:35

18 year old me (pink hair and piercings)
Would be LIVID that I think crocs are very comfortable and that I find great joy in a nice cardigan

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 27/07/2019 16:36

Olives, once disgusting now divine!

SimonJT · 27/07/2019 16:40

Going to bed early
Waking up without a hangover on a Saturday

janj2301 · 27/07/2019 16:43

Coleslaw. Always thought it had vinegar (which I hate) in it. Adore the stuff now. Also love a garden centre

ThisIsTheFirstDay · 27/07/2019 16:52

I'm 24 and that sounds ace, enjoy!

healthylifestylee · 27/07/2019 16:54

Since I was 17 I enjoyed a garden centre and a scone
Ooops

MrsIronfoundersson · 27/07/2019 16:54

Olives.
Martinis.
Olives in martinis.
And definitely a nice trip to the garden centre.

picklemepopcorn · 27/07/2019 16:58

Countryfile.

Garden birds

Verging towards songs of praise.

And I don't care.
