DH has just suggested that we go to the garden centre 'for a wander and a scone'. Now, 15 or so years ago I would have scoffed in his face had he even suggested such a thing but now I find the idea of a walk round the begonias, looking at overpriced garden acoutrements followed by a scone very agreeable.

We also had a conversation about whether cheese scones are better than fruit scones (we can't agree on this at all).

Is there any fucking hope at all or is this the start of the slippery slope? Anyone else?

Compared to 15yo me: babies, toddlers, children are now cute not disgusting

Compared to 35yo me: teenagers have become fun not crude brutes

-Cheese scones for me

I seem to do so many things now that I said I'd never do. I could never have imagined how much enjoyment I'd get from sitting in the garden in the morning with a cup of tea, looking at the hanging baskets!

Oh and cheese scones are best of course.

Bird spotting

Me too! DH and I spend every evening lately watching a cute little wagtail picking at ants and insects on our lawn. He turns up bang on 6pm, ready for dinner. And a couple of collared doves that sit on the fence leaning in to each other, lovely.

It's a real antidote to all the distraction of windbag politicians and irrelevant celebrity boob jobs and bum tucks Grin

Ooo Nothing like a good spanking, that's a thing!

Garden centre begonias, with carrot cake sound blissful.

Being a sahp for two little boys.
My teenage self was going to be a strong career woman who hated kids, especially boys.
Well my mental health let me down, leaving me unable to cope at uni. Ended up in a crappy retail job for a while. Met DH, had ds1 and loved him to bits so we decided to do it again!
I love my boys, I love being at home and my teenage self must be dying of embarrassment. Hey ho.
I also love a good mooch round a garden centre, but I point blank refuse to learn the Latin names for plants. That's a step too far.
Besides, a national trust fruit scone is best, lots of cream and lots of jam.
Mmmmmmm.......
I also comment on the moistness of cakes. Sigh.

Erm... Mumsnet? Blush

I have never been a clubbing fan , but I did and still do like pubs but now prefer quiet ones on a Sunday lunch time rather than noisy ones on a Friday night.

Cooking
Radio 4 book at bedtime and the drama / plays and old comedys.

I don't like garden centres tho.

I love a garden centre trip and a scone. I’m 35!

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 29/07/2019 11:56

Insects! Used to be fairly disgusted by bugs of all varieties apart from bees. I'm seeing them through child's eyes now as I have been pointing things out to my young DC. Now I'm suddenly obsessed and we are always out in the garden looking at bugs, picking them up for a closer inspection. Even rescuing them when DH is out with the lawn mower. I even removed a spider from a friend's house with my bare hands!

I'm super proud of how confident my girls are with insects now, and how they've inspired a whole topic at nursery as they collect bugs and show them round to the other children.

My best friend and I were the scourge of the local menfolk in our twenties. Now in our 50s we like nothing better than a garden centre trip followed by cake.

Fruit scone obviously - you can't have jam and clotted cream on a cheese scone!

Paddy1234 · 29/07/2019 12:27

Tomatoes - sun ripened

I now love most of the things mentioned. Yes it is a slippery slope. I like it. Embrace it.

Used to hate going to the hairdressers was too busy to sit down for 3 hours - now since having baby I love the chance to go to the hairdressers I buy a magazine for the occasion ( good housekeeping - 18 year old me would have gone for glamour magazine ) I'm now 30 so perhaps it is an older magazine. I also take lunch there and look forward to chatting to my hairdresser

comfortable underwear. It used to be brazilian lacy, barely-there things. Now I only buy buy pants from marks and spencer. I'm 31.

BenWillbondsPants · 29/07/2019 14:11

I'm just off for a walk round some gardens nearby. I can barely think of anything I would have been less likely to do in my youth. Smile

I should perhaps point out that these are proper gardens that you are allowed to walk round - I don't mean scaling my neighbours fences for a nosy round theirs.

I really had to think about this! I'm 44 and I probably wouldn't go to a garden centre but since my later 20s I really appreciate long walks in a country park, going for a coffee and an ice cream! I have always loved plants and flowers but prefer to see them in a park or similar. I do still love going clubbing etc.
