DH has just suggested that we go to the garden centre 'for a wander and a scone'. Now, 15 or so years ago I would have scoffed in his face had he even suggested such a thing but now I find the idea of a walk round the begonias, looking at overpriced garden acoutrements followed by a scone very agreeable.

We also had a conversation about whether cheese scones are better than fruit scones (we can't agree on this at all).

Is there any fucking hope at all or is this the start of the slippery slope? Anyone else?

I am 31 and a trip to our local garden centre that is directly next to a hobby craft is my favourite way to pass an afternoon Grin

MissClareRemembers · 27/07/2019 17:49

Sitting doing a jigsaw with a huge cup of proper tea and The Archers Omnibus.

😊

Mammyloveswine · 27/07/2019 17:49

I can remember being around 18 and thinking "how can people get bored of clubbing? I can't ever imagine getting bored of going out on a weekend!". Literally haven't been out properly in years!

Now my idea of a nice night out is dinner and cocktails/wine and home for 11!

MissClareRemembers · 27/07/2019 17:50

But clearly fruit scones trump cheese scones?

AwkwardSquad · 27/07/2019 17:51

I think there's a lot to be said for just being content isn't there, it's much underrated.

Completely agree. Cup of tea and a nice sit down, new book, homemade cake sort of feeling. Lovely Smile

Listening to classic FM or BBC radio 3

Spanneroo · 27/07/2019 18:05

Gosh, I've been like this since a teenager. OH and I have been enjoying quiet nights in, lack of alcohol, and trips to garden centres for about 10 years now... I'm 26! I wonder what the next 40 years or so has in stall for me!

Danglingmod · 27/07/2019 18:06

Gardening
Garden Centres
Gardeners' World
Gardeners' Question Time
Big pants
Flat shoes

(Have always been a fan of silence, radios 3&4, nights in and a tidy house.)

MmmBlowholes · 27/07/2019 18:09

Exercise
Staying sober
Bananas
Radio 4/Classic FM for background noise
Background noise 😂

Running. My 25 year old me would have thought OMFG!

I read the OP's post to my DH, who I think was also born to be middle aged, and he thought it was very funny as he also likes pottering around a garden centre and then a nice cup of tea.

I don't think I will ever take up gardening though.

My husband going to USA with a friend next year I’ve booked Chelsea flower show with DS I reckon I’ve got the better deal

ysmaem · 27/07/2019 18:22

Not meeting up with friends and having wine on saturday night but instead being in my pyjamas, in bed, watching tv.

mogloveseggs · 27/07/2019 18:27

Gardeners world
Antiques roadshow
Countryfile
Garden centres
The archers

I am my mother Grin

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 27/07/2019 18:30

Always loved garden centres (fruit scone wins by the way).

Leaving a gig before the band finished - that kicked in age 25.
Watching a gig on tv instead of going - kicked in age 35.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 27/07/2019 18:30

Actually having decent conversations with an elderly relative AND enjoying time in her company Shock I have also turned into my mothet

JoyceJeffries · 27/07/2019 18:42

Eating olives.

Ronsters · 27/07/2019 18:48

Dahlias. I used to think they were horrible, 1970s flowers my gran liked
but have become quite keen on them.

JeremyCorbynsCoat · 27/07/2019 18:54

27 and I bloody LOVE a garden centre and a scone

Shesmessybutsheskind · 27/07/2019 18:59

Bras without underwire
Cutting down on any sort of food group
Radio 4

😁

Deathraystare · 27/07/2019 19:00

Well I have really turned into my parents. On holiday they used to scour the estate agents (UK I mean, not abroad). Guess what I do now! I can't seem to help myself.

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 27/07/2019 19:13

@MissClareRemembers I hate raisins/sultanas so my scone order is:
Cheese
Plain
Absolutely any other available cake or traybake or cookie or pancake
Then and only then
Fruit - with all bits picked out so scone looks like it's been hit by a grenade

notso · 27/07/2019 20:03

Big cotton pants,
The Archers,
Coffee, I sighed happily when I had the first sip of a flat white the other day and my Mum laughed at me,
Aubergines.

Cherry scones are the best.

minou123 · 27/07/2019 20:13

My 18 year old self would be horrified that I get excited if it's a lovely day and I can hang the washing out.

In fact, all domestic duties was considered shameful and that I now get satisfaction from ironing would bring shame to my 18 year old self Shock

MissClareRemembers · 27/07/2019 21:23

@GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap

See I’d go;

Plain
Fruit
Chocolate sponge
Coffee cake

Cheese scone

MissClareRemembers · 27/07/2019 21:26

Decorating. I love decorating. Radio 4 on in the background. Sorted.
