Cats in this heat...

Are they better off inside or out? Our girls are adamant they want to be outside, I think they'd be better off staying indoors where it's cooler, DH thinks let them out, they can find a shady spot and might get a breeze. We do have water bowls outside in the shade.

What's the MN verdict?

Mine are out somewhere, not entirely sure where. Hopefully they have found shade

igotdemons · 25/07/2019 11:54

I think it’s best to let the cat choose where they want to be. Mine has been out all day, everyday, laying underneath a big, thick hedge and every time I’ve gone to check on her, she’s been as cool as a cucumber, whereas the house is stuffy and hot. I just leave a bowl of water in the shade for her and take her the occasional snack and she’s been absolutely fine. Although this morning she’s chosen to be inside - don’t think it will last long! 😂

HandsOffMyRights · 25/07/2019 11:54

Mine are out. As PP said they'll find shade.
They would not take kindly to me dictating their movements either. I am completely at their will Shock

Mine is out, he's finding shady parts of the garden then he disappears for a while and comes back covered in grass seeds. I assume it must be cooler laying in the long grass somewhere.
He's not happy with the heat as he's ridiculously fluffy.

dementedpixie · 25/07/2019 11:56

Yeah, my long haired one comes back with all sorts of crap hiding in his fur

mostlydrinkstea · 25/07/2019 11:58

I have mum at and tiny kittens in the coolest room in the house with blinds closed and the fan going. My adult cats are off in the garden somewhere.

Ronsters · 25/07/2019 11:59

My cat is in, he seems to prefer it. He goes in the hall, which is quite cool.

BearSoFair · 25/07/2019 12:01

Thanks all. Opened the door, one shot right down and across the garden to sit under a bush. The other took got halfway down the path, thrashed her tail around, squawked very indignantly and has stomped back inside Grin

My black cat is in the garden. She has found a shady spot and is stretched out. She comes in for a drink and then goes back out. She looks less uncomfortable outside so I'm letting her get on with it.

Rockbird · 25/07/2019 12:02

Mine are out. We have a couple of large bushes and they're living under there. Thinking of putting their food out there as they hardly bother to come in at the moment!

ZaZathecat · 25/07/2019 12:04

They know what they're doing - under a shady bush outside would suit me very well if I didn't mind the insects!

MitziK · 25/07/2019 12:04

DTwatCat1 is laying directly in the tiny patch of direct sunlight coming through the blinds. He's a fucking twat.

DTwatCat2 is hiding somewhere. Because evil CatMum decided a geriatric Maine Coon would benefit from her paws and ears being wiped over with a damp flannel. So she's sulking.

Oh, FFS. DTwatCat1 has just scrambled up behind the blinds so he's in direct fucking sunshine. He'll be there for five minutes and then get down and collapse dramatically on the floor with exhaustion.

They're both fed up with the garden, as although it's shady in some parts, everytime they come back in, I have to pick over them for 20-30 Goosegrass seeds embedded around their arseholes.

They're both fucking twats.

littlewhitething · 25/07/2019 12:09

Two are on my bed, flaked out. Another two are on the other bed, similarly comatose. Three have disappeared over the back gate, where to God knows! And the kittens from he'll (now named Spider and Cobweb) are trying to kill the cloth on the lounge table and making a very creditable job of it - they were out earlier when it was cooler, climbing all over the wheelbarrow and having their first al fresco pee!

Livebythecoast · 25/07/2019 12:13

I peg an old towel over a garden chair and my cat uses it like a little tent Smile

MitziK · 25/07/2019 12:20

Are you old enough to consider renaming the Kittens from Hell Spider and Vim?

cantfindname · 25/07/2019 12:22

Mine is outside with ample water. He isn't eating as much as usual and won't come inside for food. I am feeding him outside and he is lying on the always-cool concrete outside in a breeze. Quite wish I could join him!

swissmilk · 25/07/2019 12:27

My cat is loving it, stretched out under various plants in the garden and coming in for food and drink

tierraJ · 25/07/2019 12:30

Mines an indoor cat.
She actually likes to lie in the sun with the breeze from my fan ruffling her fur!!

All 4 are inside lying on the wooden floor.
I think they are all hoping I'll switch on the air con unit soon as that was the best thing ever yesterday!

Bloodycats · 25/07/2019 12:35

Have to keep mine in, he’s such a light colour I worry he will burn!
I’ve got 3 of a similar shade so they all stay in. I’ve made them tuna ice lollies and have the blinds down in their favourite rooms with a fan on too.

Mine are staying indoors. One is a black long haired Persian. With a flat face. So I'm not taking the risk. I don't trust either to find shade. My house is fairly cool though.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/07/2019 12:45

They are indoor cats anyway. So aren't bothered if the don't go out.

OhMsBeliever · 25/07/2019 12:55

Mine are out. I never see them in the summer unless they want food. I have put water out in a dirty bowl that's been sitting in the garden for ages as that is the only way they will drink. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Alarae · 25/07/2019 13:18

Mine has decided to be indoors, looking very fed up halfway up the stairs.

I don't blame her; I wouldn't want or wear a fur coat in this heat either!
