Cats in this heat...

Are they better off inside or out? Our girls are adamant they want to be outside, I think they'd be better off staying indoors where it's cooler, DH thinks let them out, they can find a shady spot and might get a breeze. We do have water bowls outside in the shade.

What's the MN verdict?

I bought a cooling mat from B&M. As you can see from the photo it was a huge success.

My girl is outside under the willow or sitting in the arbor.

userabcname · 25/07/2019 17:02

Mine is out. She obviously knows which gardens have sprinklers or are watering their plants well as she keeps coming back wet and covered in mud!!!!

MWNA · 25/07/2019 17:07

And that's with the portable aircon unit on max.

Some beautiful cats on this thread! ❤️

We live in the southern med and let our cats choose. They find their own shady spots.

notmylittleangel · 25/07/2019 17:21

One in one out here.
Rabbits have dug a bowl under the hedge and are flopped out.
Coolest under a bush in the shade.

livid1234 · 25/07/2019 17:30

Mine were out but looked as though they were panting when it was 37 degrees in the shade. So I brought them into the garage where it is lovely and cool, fed and watered them and check them frequently. They seem quite happy. I'll let them out soon as it's much cooler now.

Well my patio door is open and mind is laid on her back with her legs in the air! She comes in whenever she can be bothered, failing that she is off eating grass!

mostlydrinkstea · 25/07/2019 17:40

Hopefully this shows a very small kitten sleeping. Extra an ice block

Next to.

MitziK · 25/07/2019 17:43

DTwatCats moved briefly. There is a wet towel draped over the airer in front of a tower fan just to the top right, out of shot.

(yes, I know the floor needs scrubbing. Like fuck am I doing shit like that today)

Aww @tierraJ my girl is identical. She has now gone and parked her arse to the entrance of my kids trampoline because she is having a stare off with next doors dog through the fence posts!

PollyRoe16 · 25/07/2019 18:02

Mines been in and out all day. She's currently fast asleep on a kitchen chair. Think the plastic must be cool. She has a cooling mat but doesn't sit on it Hmm

CaptainCallisto · 25/07/2019 18:59

CallistoCat is currently sprawled under DS1's loft bed. His room gets the sun first thing so is probably the coolest in the house now.

He spent most of yesterday, and this morning, camped out in the little hidey hole in the bottom of his cat tower, which is very odd for him; he never goes in there!

Poppins2016 · 25/07/2019 19:04

I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't let mine choose.

Older cat has barely been seen all week (coming home only for mealtimes). He's a true outdoor cat in summer.

Princess cat has been inside in the coolest room, trying to sleep until the heat ends and looking at me indignantly as though I can change it...

Youngest cat has been flopping in the garden wherever he can find shade.

Maryann1975 · 25/07/2019 19:07

My cat has been out since 5.30 this morning (when I dutifully got out of bed and let her out because she woke me up). The back door has been open all day and she has been back a couple of times had a few biscuits and gone back out. She has had a nap under the sand table, on the patio table and in a shady corner of grass.

She finds her own place and after weeks of her refusing to go out because of rain, it’s quite nice to find she is happy to be out again.

Hotterthanahotthing · 25/07/2019 19:15

Mine seem fine I have just made sure there is water in and out.It is cooler now so both have eaten and are under their favourite bushes.

Oldraver · 25/07/2019 19:52

Mines been in and flopped, on the patio and flopped. A whole in front of the fan the flopped in the hall, all with a forlorn look
