Heatwaves - do you like them or loathe them?

I have to say that as much as I hate winter, I just can not tolerate excessive heat. The older I am getting the less I seem to handle these humid, extra hot, sticky days. I feel completely worn out, weak and shaky, really nauseous and down right moody. I can’t sleep so feel shattered too. Dh on the other hand (who also works outside) loves it, whilst I seem to be roasting And wilting from the inside out, he is calm and mellow and says if you pace yourself it’s great!
Mine you, I shouldn’t moan as it’ll probably be pissing it down when we go on our hols to Somerset in two weeks!!

Live in the ME where it’s mid 40s and I love that as we have chilled pools and open plan houses with concrete floors and air conditioning!! Plus it’s dark at 7pm

We’re back at home for a visit and the amount of people who comment it must be easy for us, we’re used to this........ I find it so much harder here with no AC and light evenings! DC are grumpy and can’t get their heads round the fact UK houses don’t have AC or communal pools.

Ronsters · 24/07/2019 17:02

If I was off work it wouldn't be too bad, getting home on public transport in this heat is miserable.

JennaOfEluria · 24/07/2019 17:04

Hate the summer. Currently hiding in work because there's air con and I can't face getting on the train in this heat to go home so DH is currently holding the sweltering fort at home with the kids. Apparently the summer brings out the selfish cow in me!

MadisonAvenue · 24/07/2019 17:06

Hate them. Summer is my least favourite season.

ihaveagoldenticket · 24/07/2019 17:08

If I could sit by a pool in the shade, nipping for a dip when I want to cool off then this sunshine and heat would be grand. But being at work is awful. I've been in central London for the past couple of days - bonus is an air conditioned office and an air conditioned hotel room last night - but the tube and trains and buses in this weather are awful places to be and my main office doesn't have air con which means it's incredibly unpleasant in weather like this.

I'm no better in winter though. Give me those fresh sunny spring days or a fresh, sunny autumn day instead please.

BeardedMum · 24/07/2019 17:09

Hate!

fleshmarketclose · 24/07/2019 17:12

I don't like them so stay indoors as much as possible and have fans going in every room which makes it bearable.

bumblingbovine49 · 24/07/2019 17:14

I like it but I do pace myself and I am happy doing stuff very slowly.

SinglePringle · 24/07/2019 17:14

Absolutely LOVE it! It’s just glorious to have heat like this. I really enjoy the languid atmosphere, lighter clothing, hot nights and gorgeous warmth and light.

I like seeing kids out playing, ice cream vans coming round, glasses of white wine and salad

I like Spring, Autumn and Winter too. All the seasons, in their place.

Drogosnextwife · 24/07/2019 17:15

If I wasn't working, I would love it. I'm a childminder and it's hell, I sweat like a pig when doing everything for the kids, they are irratable and all have pretty bad colds so they are in terrible moods as it is.

concernedforthefuture · 24/07/2019 17:39

@Asta19 Sadly it was the smell of 'unwashed for days', not fresh sweat and BO. I get that we can all get a tiny bit smelly in this weather but there's no excuse to smell of stale sweat unless you are a tramp have no access to water & soap for washing your clothes and body.

Sandsnake · 24/07/2019 17:42

Tend to enjoy them! But this one is all in the working week and I’m commuting to central London and am pregnant. So not massively loving it this time!

MsTSwift · 24/07/2019 17:43

Love it

HeadintheiClouds · 24/07/2019 17:44

Hate them with the fire of 1000 suns. Which is quite ironic really.

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 17:45

I mean, it’s not really a heatwave it’s just summer.

I dislike summer, love autumn and winter. Don’t mind spring either but summer is my least favourite. It’s just too warm, I feel so sticky.

Zenithbear · 24/07/2019 17:51

Love Summer and heat. I love being able to wear less clothes and flip flops sandals etc. And being outside especially in the garden. I am aware of animals and birds suffering though and keep the bird bath and pond topped up. I don't mind Spring and Autumn but I'm definitely not a winter person.

formerbabe · 24/07/2019 17:56

Love nice weather...sunny and up to 25degrees.

This is absolutely vile.

formerbabe · 24/07/2019 17:57

Spring is my favourite.

CrackOn · 24/07/2019 17:58

@Asta19 can you link to the one you have?

astoria5 · 24/07/2019 17:59

Hate it ! It's been a constant 30-35 degrees here for the last month 😓

MissClareRemembers · 24/07/2019 18:01

Hate heatwaves. I can just about get through the day but I cannot bear being too hot in the evening or overnight. The weatherman said it was going to feel less humid tonight though so that's a tiny crumb of comfort.

Minai · 24/07/2019 18:05

Absolutely hate heatwaves. I’m from the north and now live in London and I hate the summers here, they are so much more humid and unpleasant. I’ve never liked the heat but hate it a lot more since having children. It’s impossible to keep them cool and I worry about them overheating and getting dehydrated. Plus I am fatter than I was a few years ago which doesn’t help.

AntonsMumsTeeth · 24/07/2019 18:07

Loathe them Angry

Bunnylady53 · 24/07/2019 18:12

I love summer but can’t be doing with the humidity. Once the forecast thunderstorms actually appear, it will clear the air. I have been very sleepy, feeling sick/upset tum & generally not bothered about doing anything. 2 weeks off work now so hopefully it will be sunny but dry heat & I can spend quality time with DD.

HeadintheiClouds · 24/07/2019 18:13

We had thunderstorms here last night but it’s done absolutely nothing to clear the air Sad
