How long does a bottle of white wine last you?

Opened a bottle at 7.15pm and I've just finished it at 9pm. Is that really bad?

In defence, I have eaten a big curry with rice in two sittings 50 mins apart at the same time.

So, half a glass whilst waiting for DH to bring take away. A full glass with meal. Another full glass over half an hour watching a film. Another full glass with take away left-overs. Finishing wine now with rest of film.

Admittedly rose, in fact mostly 5% but no difference, two or three nights

No drinking in the week- one night if I really fancy it or 2 if Id rather just go to bed

I can easily drink a bottle of red in an evening and not be drunk or get a hangover. I am trying to cut down a bit actually. I don’t think a bottle over the course of an evening is that bad tbh. But I’m probably the wrong person to ask!

SallyOMalley You'd be very drunk? Really? Even with two sittings of take-away curry in the mix?

Ah, with a curry perhaps not so much. But if just drinking then yes, I would! I also get horrendous hangovers too: had a pint of beer last night and then shared a bottle of white with DH over dinner. Woke up in the middle of the night with that horrible sawdust mouth, and have a right thick head this morning.

Always been the same 🤷

Three or four hours? If I'm just relaxing at home. If DH and I open a bottle of wine then I normally have the bottle-less-a-glass - he is as much of a drinker as me, but falls asleep on the sofa most evenings!

I don’t know anyone over the age of 24 that would drink a whole bottle to themselves in one go

I can't believe you're living such a sheltered life Confused

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 22/07/2019 11:21

Whole bottle lasts around 2 hours or so,could do it in 1 though if I felt like it.God I love wine

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 22/07/2019 11:24

Btw I'm 39 and to me the bottle is a portion of wine,if in doing it then I'm doing it right Grin

Ellabella989 · 22/07/2019 11:25

I would be hammered. I’ve always been able to get drunk after about 3 drinks and I also get brutal hangovers. It just doesn’t agree with me at all. Most I could drink in one sitting without getting unwell would be half a bottle which would take me about 2-3 hours to drink

MonstranceClock · 22/07/2019 11:29

Well, I usually buy a bottle of red in my weekly shop so I guess a week. But even if I did drink it all in one sitting, I wouldnt buy more until the next week iyswim.

BlackInk · 22/07/2019 11:29

I'm a lightweight :)

I have a glass of red wine most nights, and my partner sometimes has a glass too. We get through about 2 bottles a week.

A whole bottle in a couple of hours is a lot, and it sounds like you were drinking because you were thirsty rather than savouring it. How about trying a longer drink like lager/cider or a wine spritzer?

PuppyMonkey · 22/07/2019 11:50

Reading this thread, I think I'm a lightweight too, which surprises me. Grin

I can't drink a whole bottle of wine, I have three medium size glasses - usually leaving another large glass in the bottle for another night. If I have one sip more than three glasses, I am sick as a dog the next day.

I have timed it Blush and I can make one glass last roughly 45 minutes. I'm only allowed to open a bottle after 7.30pm and I have usually finished my three glasses by about 9.45pm. I have to watch it because I tend to become more squiffy quite some time after I've stopped drinking, so I have to give myself a bit of time to get it all out of my system then start sobering up before I got to bed. I can only drink on Fri/Sat/Sun also, not on a weeknight ever.

It's a bloody science, this drinking lark I tell you.
