How long do you leave cards on display for?

It was my DD's birthday on 25 June and her birthday cards are cluttering up my mantelpiece. I really want to chuck them out but would I be mean to do so?

What's a "normal" / "acceptable" amount of time to leave them on display?

Until I think 'Shit, they've been up ages' so anywhere between a fortnight and a month? Depends on the time of year, if there's another birthday within a couple of weeks they will come down quicker, if not it depends how often I dust round there Blush

DappledThings · 18/07/2019 19:25

1-2 weeks for DH and DC. Zero time at all for me because I hate them!

IggyAce · 18/07/2019 19:26

A week.

AngelaJ18 · 18/07/2019 19:29

A week max! Can’t stand them cluttering up the place.

Kittykatmacbill · 18/07/2019 20:02

A month. Didn’t realise it was unusual. I like my family members (and their celebrations) and I like that other people think of us!

Oldraver · 19/07/2019 21:40

Until the next occasion, though at the moment we have several lots up

Northernsoullover · 19/07/2019 21:43

I'm a cleaner and some of my clients leave them up for 6 weeks. Then comes another fecking birthday. I'm sick of dusting under them.

Punxsutawney · 19/07/2019 21:49

Two weeks but we have them up in our conservatory, so out of the way and it doesn't feel cluttered.

Rachelover40 · 19/07/2019 21:52

I leave them up for a week unless I forget to take them down - then it might be eight days.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 19/07/2019 21:54

At least a month - makes the house cosy

CherryPavlova · 19/07/2019 21:58

Goodness. Invitations on the mantelpiece tucked behind a clock but others not displayed past the date you are celebrating. A day or two at most as the majority are fairly ghastly.Christmas is different, and cards are part of the decorations.

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 19/07/2019 22:01

2 days max

RolandOnTheRopes · 19/07/2019 22:05

We're like your mum, generally up until the next occasion. Father's Day cards are still up and will likely be until my birthday next month Smile

1-2 weeks

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/07/2019 22:20

I've just taken the last birthday ones down, so 5 and a half weeks Blush

CassianAndor · 19/07/2019 22:23

Months in our house. I might remove DH’s in time for my birthday 3 months later...!

diaduittoyou · 19/07/2019 22:24

A week here.

BillywilliamV · 19/07/2019 22:24

DDs have them up in their room all year, until next birthday.

Celebelly · 19/07/2019 22:25

My DD is 5 months old and I still have all the 'congratulations on your baby girl' cards up. I can't bear to get rid of them. Do I win the sloven award?

TheBitterBoy · 19/07/2019 22:28

I think the spread of birthdays in your family is often the trigger here. I reckon about 2 weeks is about right but that's probably because my mum's birthday was the end of November (so her cards came down to be replaced by Christmas cards) and my dad's birthday cards came down to be rep!aced by mine (he's the end of January, my birthday is mid February). DH and DS's birthday cards always have some overlap because their birthdays are only 8 days apart and I don't feel it's fair to pull down DS's cards so early.

growlingbear · 19/07/2019 22:28

A week here too. except Christmas cards. They get t stay up for bloody ages because some people send to arrive on 1st of advent and DH won't take anything down until 12th night.

monsieurmarius · 19/07/2019 22:37

I had no idea people took them down so quickly. This has really baffled me. Certainly at least a month in our house but maybe everyone who comes over thinks we're nuts but is too polite to say

OnlyToWin · 19/07/2019 22:39

One week!

shinynewapple · 19/07/2019 22:48

Keep up for a week but will save some cards if an extra special occasion or really nice card.
