So I’m slowly rebuilding myself after (finally) getting the courage to leave and weirdly yesterday I found that playing certain songs really helped me feel less awful and more determined to ignore his messages. I’ve got
Christina - Fighter
Katy Perry - Roar
F* you - Lilly Allen
Bulletproof - La Roux
Enough cryin’ - Mary J Blige

What else do I need to get me through?

OP posts:
BabiaMajora · 08/07/2019 19:32

Human Nature - Madonna

GivemeGinandTonic · 08/07/2019 19:34

Sail on - Lionel Richie
Spotlight - Jennifer Hudson
It’s not right - Whitney
Goodbye Stranger - supertramp
The greatest - Sia
He wasn’t man enough - Toni Braxton

Fading Fast by the Go-Go’s:

m.youtube.com/watch?v=RIl4aky3ZE4

You thought that I was on your side
And I'd do anything for you
But you found out yesterday
That you were wrong
I opened up the door
I said we were through
Now you're calling me
You want me back again
But I've just got to turn my head
And start to pretend
I've never seen you
You're someone I don't know
Are you just another boy
That I met long ago
You had me all to yourself
I thought that you were such a prize
I finally came to my senses
When I heard just one too many lies
You can talk about old times
They don't mean a thing to me
You're fading fast
Out of my memory

Beyonce - Me Myself and I

A friend linked me to Emilie Autumn's One Foot in Front of the Other when I left. It's a good mantra to have in your head.

Carly Simon - Let the River Run
Someone Else's Story from Chess

Gabriellas Sång sung by Helen Sjöholm (it is in Swedish but there is a reasonable translation here)

underthebridgedowntown · 08/07/2019 19:55

All of the songs on my "fuck you" playlist have already been listed. Excellent choices vipers Grin

Katy Perry Roar is still the one that gets me feeling like me again every time a memory about my abusive ex rears it's head. Well done on getting out, it's all upwards from here xxx

Knowing Ne, Knowing You by Abba
This is the Last Time by Keane

Parkinssheet · 08/07/2019 20:19

Try Unbearable by The Wonderstuff.
I also love Be My Enemy by The Waterboys when I feel really angry.

sqeakywheel · 08/07/2019 20:24

Gizlotsmum, I can't believe I forgot Rage Against the Machine! I listen to their first album when I have just had enough!

PickAChew · 08/07/2019 20:34

Dido - Hunter

The unread book and painful look
The TV's on, the sound is down
One long pause, then you begin
Oh, look what the cat's brought in

If you were a king up there on your throne
Would you be wise enough to let me go?
For this queen you think you own

Graphista · 08/07/2019 20:35

Christina - fighter was "mine" in my breakup too I've mentioned on another thread I used it to help me have a strong frame of mind when doing dd drop off/pick ups with ex - which are the most awkward thing ever to have to do in my opinion!

Sia - titanium
Pink - so what
Bon jovi - you give love a bad name
Dua lipa - new rules might be useful
Tlc - no scrubs possibly
Ting tings - shut up and let me go
Whitney - it's not right but it's ok
Britney - stronger
Fleetwood Mac - go your own way

Well done on getting out and loads of good luck for the future Thanks

VallarMorghulis · 08/07/2019 20:38

Sickofphd · 08/07/2019 20:39

Don't worry about me by Zara Larsson is a new one but really good too.

Killing in the name - rage against the machine

This is me - the greatest showman soundtrack

Thnks fr th mmrs - fall out boy

You need me, I don't need you - Ed Sheeran

Some of these aren't directly about a break up but I've always felt good singing them when it's happened!

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 08/07/2019 20:55

Love Ain't by Eli Young band.

xsquared · 08/07/2019 21:32

IDGAF - Dua Lipa
Back off Bitch - Guns N Roses (I know it's written from a male POV about a female but it still works with the sexes reversed)
Girlfriend - Pebbles
Don't worry - Kim Appleby
Caught out there - Kelis
RESPECT - Aretha Franklin

pointythings · 08/07/2019 21:34

Here's some angry ones that got me through breaking up with my alcoholic H:

Linkin Park - Lies Greed Misery
Linkin Park - Lost in the Echo
Bring me the Horizon - Go to Hell for Heaven's Sake

There are times when anger is very cathartic.
