Floral I would like to see the photo as I’ve not even heard of this before today

I’m not helping, I know...but...

All spiders can bite, the only difference is how hard and venom.

Sorry.

I’m off to burn the boot room, there’s a huge fucker in there that is obviously plotting to get in and hide under my pillow.

LoafofSellotape · 05/07/2019 23:31

Doctor told me lots of biting spiders in the UK , I didn't use to be scared of them and I am now!!!

Fortheloveofscience · 05/07/2019 23:33

I was bitten by a false widow last year, it was about as painful as a wasp sting and I couldn’t feel it at all the next morning. Fingers crossed you’re the same OP.

EnidButton · 05/07/2019 23:34

Do spider bites itch?

Ffs I was just getting quite good with my spider phobia. I didn't know they could properly bite and cause trouble.

EnidButton · 05/07/2019 23:35

Oh sorry Lard, you have my sympathy.

Iamthewombat · 05/07/2019 23:35

But WHY are the spiders biting you? Self defence (inside the jeans on the washing line. I kind of get it) or out of pure spite (poor OP sitting in the garden innocuously eating red velvet cake)?

Like the world needs spiteful spiders! Why are they behaving so badly?

EnidButton · 05/07/2019 23:36

Do you have a pic of your bite Lard?

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 05/07/2019 23:40

Do you feel any spidey senses yet? Have you tried hanging onto the side wall of your house? Is your outfit red and blue?

Leggyfrog · 05/07/2019 23:46

I've only ever got spider bites in central America not uk - but i know I've been bitten because they always leave a big circular disc

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 23:51

I can take a photo tomorrow of the bite
But I can do it now as I’ve got the light off

Despite my jumpy duvet incident early, I'm not actually bothered by spiders. Very much in the "put it in a glass" camp. Don't want them crawling on me though.

But yes, whilst all spiders can bite, most don't and really are more afraid of you than you are of them. They wouldn't think to bite, they just want to run for their lives. Also, there are only a select few spider species in the UK that are capable of breaking human skin - so you don't need to worry so much.

False widows are naturally more vicious, kind of like the difference between wasps and bees. They also are the most venomous spider in the UK, so if you've been bitten by one chances are you'll know about it - whereas a bite from lesser spiders probably wouldn't even be noticeable. But ultimately they aren't deadly, just nasty. Currently though they only really live in the south of England, particularly around London.

Note: I'm no scientist or spider-ologist - I just know a lot of weird bug facts 😂

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 23:53

Exactly iamthewombat

It wasn’t like i almost squashed it or anything
I was innocent
They never used to bother me before, like say if one was in my bedroom
Wouldn’t bother me

DS got bitten when he was younger. He was playing with leaves in the forest. Six bites on his back/neck and had antibiotics and creams

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 23:58

How old was he ?

Well at least it didn’t get me on the face, I suppose !

Spiders are Buggers bitten by one and ended up with necrofacitis (doom monger!)
Just keep an eye on it! I ended up having tons of ops due to skin removal!

Jiggles101 · 06/07/2019 00:08

I was bitten by a huntsman spider in Thailand 😱 luckily was asleep at the time or i probably would have died of shock! Had 2 big puncture marks 😷 It was swollen for a few days but didn't need any treatment.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/07/2019 00:11

He was about 7. He's 15 now and hates the little buggers

MitziK · 06/07/2019 01:21

Obviously, it worked out that you weren't about to run away and leave your red velvet cake (what with it being much better that curds and whey), so had to take more direct action.

Antihistamines (cream or tablets) will help, see the pharmacist in the morning. Keep it clean to avoid infection.

EnidButton · 06/07/2019 01:56

Neversay Super helpful info! I always want to know about spiders but google contains too many up close enormous pictures. So it's good to know a bit more about them.

Lard Hopegully there won't be much to take a pic if by tomorrow but I am curious what it's like.

areukiddingme · 06/07/2019 01:57

Mumsymumphy · 06/07/2019 02:05
