(In Ireland)

Iamthewombat · 05/07/2019 22:55

How are you getting regular enough spider bites to measure your discs? I need to know in order to avoid the same attacks.

Iamthewombat · 05/07/2019 22:56

I thought St Patrick drove the spiders out of Ireland? What is going on??

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 22:56

Omg false widow spider !
Do you think it looks like this ?

Here

Iamthewombat · 05/07/2019 22:57

It does a bit, yes.

squee123 · 05/07/2019 22:58

I got bitten by a bloody good old British housespider and ended up with a nasty dose of cellulitis and was hospitalised. Keep a close eye on it. If it remains red and inflamed beyond a few days I'd pop down the GP

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 22:58

I could have understood if I had sat on it something to scare it
But I was just sitting there eatting my cake

3luckystars · 05/07/2019 22:59

It was a lace web spider in I want that left the fang behind.

St Patrick got rid of the snakes.
I wish it had been head lice.

Branleuse · 05/07/2019 23:00

looks like steatoda nobilis, noble false widow. Keep an eye on the bite if it becomes infected, but most of the soreness should die down within a day or so much like a wasp or bee sting.

I know they have a bad rep but their venom isnt that potent if you are not allergic

LesserBohemian · 05/07/2019 23:01

Oh god, it does look like one of those bastards!

A friend got hospitalised with sepsis after getting bitten by one.

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 23:03

I honestly never knew a spider could bite you esp if you have never threatened it in anyway !
I hope it’s not laid any eggs anywhere
Thinking about it
I cracked up the parasol
Before sitting down so perhaps it fell out ?!
Flash back to arachnophobia

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 23:04

Shit it really does look like one of them even the leg patten looks the same

OP posts:
Iamthewombat · 05/07/2019 23:06

Tell St Patrick to turn his attention to the head lice, moths and spiders.

Bloody hell OP! Keep us updated with spider bite developments. At least it didn’t leap out of a bunch of bananas (see news stories from several years ago...I handle bunches of bananas in Asda with care now!)

LesserBohemian · 05/07/2019 23:10

Speaking of flashbacks to Arachnophobia...

We regularly have huge furry black lace weavers nest in the ridiculous gap in our front door that really needs seeing to. Look them up, they’re hideous.

They’re also really aggressive and will run out of their holes with their front legs held in the air and will try and attack the Hoover as I go by!

floraloctopus · 05/07/2019 23:11

Keep a close eye on it, I currently have an inch long non-healing sore from a spider bite.

Iamthewombat · 05/07/2019 23:13

What is aggravating the spiders??? I must know!

Lardlizard · 05/07/2019 23:15

The bite mark is currently about 1cm big on me
Just been reading about it on nhs website

MayFayner · 05/07/2019 23:17

Why the fuck did I open this thread

floraloctopus · 05/07/2019 23:18

Mine has stabbed and spread, I would show a photo but you wouldn't want to see it

floraloctopus · 05/07/2019 23:18

Scabbed not stabbed !

NeverSayFreelance · 05/07/2019 23:19

Been reading this thread and jumped out my skin because I thought the pattern on my duvet was a spider ffs😂

False widow bites are nasty. Not deadly, but definitely sore and can get badly infected. Keep an eye on it overnight, go to the out of hours tomorrow if it gets worse.

Waiting1987 · 05/07/2019 23:19

I had no idea spiders here could bite. Shock I don’t think I’ll be sleeping tonight...or again.

QueenofLouisiana · 05/07/2019 23:23

Another MNetter with a scar and unpleasant memories from a spider bite! I had a month’s worth of antibiotics as I developed cellulitis from a bite.

Awful things.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 05/07/2019 23:23

Ouch! I got bitten by a tiny little spider and it bloody hurt! 🕷️

Bluerussian · 05/07/2019 23:26

Lardlizard, are you in the UK? I didn't know we had biting spiders here, I shall not sleep tonight. I have a can of spider repellant close to hand.

Found this: www.sciencefocus.com/nature/how-many-uk-spiders-are-actually-dangerous/

3luckystars Fri 05-Jul-19 22:53:21 I know a guy that got bitten by a spider and it left a fang behind.

It must have been a wild fang.
